There are other wrapping videos on youtube that say that i am correct. You can wrap your bars any way you want to, to the inside or to the outside but it's true that when you grip the bars your hands have a tendancy to want to go more to the outside. So if the tape is wrapped to the inside you are going against it and have a greater chance of unraveling it. If it's tight it probably would never unravel or work loose but i think that is the physics of the issue.
This is like another tape wrapping vid here on youtube in that they are wrapping the tape the wrong way. I was taught that you wrapped the tape to the outside on both sides of the bars. The reason is that your hands put more pressure to the outside of the bars when you are gripping them. This way it helps keep the tape from unraveling when you are gripping the bars.
Nice figure-8 wrap! The alternative method, wrapping continuously around the brake hood base, needs a short piece around the rear of the hood clamp, or you'll have a "V" gap on the side. Both methods work equally well, but the figure-8 is old school cool. The non-perforated end is left free at the beginning of your wrap, trimmed and tucked under the bar end cap. Love the fi'zi:k tape, very nice.
The tape I have is perforated all along it except for the beginning and end of the tape which is plain/solid/unperforated. Do you clip those bits off before you start? What are they for?
@iSleipnir I think they are for dealing with wrapping around the brakes. They are two ways of doing this: you can either do figure eight around the brakes (like in this video) - then you won't need the solid bit or you can clip it off and cover a brake with it (it's diffcult to describe - see the TriSports video on bar tapes to see it).
Next time you're going to make a vid unplug the compressor first and turn off the radio.
