i got into a horrible car accident with my 07 sonata and that thing saved my life my car hydroplanted and i rolled down a hill flipping over the car on the outside looked like no one would survive but i did i had a broken arm and rib though

But success in the domestic market is paramount for Korean car manufacturers - and for years they have preotected their market well, but things are changing now. Koreans are into their imported cars. Lets look at this way. Hyundai has been in reputation of cheap and lousy car. If they want to break into luxury market, surely the price cannot be too high. People will think twice about it. They are not dumping it. They are trying to attract ppl. I think this shows that they are thinking very carefully on reflect to the image of hyundai.
The Car for Korea have more expensive options than for USA. Genesis is LUXURY CAR than Equus(not Limo ver.)in Korea. So it has very as expensive options as German cars'.

Yes there are trade deficit from core technology. But that's compount deficit from 50's and 60's and many of those technology is one by one taken over by their indiginous technology as Japan did from borrowing technology from the West. The pattern is quite clear. And the trade deficit in time will shrink. Korean automobile has come a long way. You might think it's still immitating Japanese but in terms of quality and technology, it has caught up to 85~90%. It's only matter of time.

Korea has trade inbalance with Japan. You know the amount last year alone? 30 Bil US$. Out of this figure, electronics occupy huge portion. Electronics include LCD panels etc that you are so proud of. Samsung LCD, cell phone are good as Japanese one because you know why by now. Samsung made huge profit but money flow to Japan eventually. And Japanese companies will never disclose core tech and future tech now under R&D phase.

Looks pretty safe to me! Shame that it will sell for more in Korea than the US. But success in the domestic market is paramount for Korean car manufacturers - and for years they have preotected their market well, but things are changing now. Koreans are into their imported cars. Lets look at this way. Hyundai has been in reputation of cheap and lousy car. If they want to break into luxury market, surely the price cannot be too high. People will think twice about it. They are not dumping it. They are trying to attract ppl. Furthermore, they have brought 2 different perspective by putting original hyundai badge and genesis badge on the car show to see which one is better. I think this shows that they are thinking very carefully on reflect to the image of hyundai.

Oh uh... I was so excited about this new Hyundai that I was looking forward to test drive it and even buy it (if they use the Genesis emblems instead of the embarassing Hyundai ones) But after seeing this the M5, DTS, STS LS460 are still on my list.

Why are people so racist? Why do people always have to say "hyundai sux because its korean" and "Lexus is good because it's japan"? Lets just look at real specs shall we? Apparantly, the genesis scored 5 outa 5 stars in crash tests, it has a great sound system, great engine (although I personally prefer gas milage over power) and it looks great. I hate it when people revert to their "korea sux" wars when they see a hyundai car. It just makes those racists look pathetic.

Yes there are trade deficit from core technology. But that's compount deficit from 50's and 60's and many of those technology is one by one taken over by their indiginous technology as Japan did from borrowing technology from the West. The pattern is quite clear. And the trade deficit in time will shrink. Korean automobile has come a long way. You might think it's still immitating Japanese but in terms of quality and technology, it has caught up to 85~90%. It's only matter of time.

No you do not understand. Boy you ARE thick. Korea DOES have technology to make it own components. They still rely on Japan on number of sectors yes (AGAIN same argument, yes JAPAN at the moment is the lead) But Korea has narrowed the gap significantly and surpassing in some areas I pointed out. The deficit and the reliance to Japanese components have decreased and will decrease steadily over years. Even if they can't make it now, doesn't mean they can't in few years time.

Japan learnt technologies and build it better. (Big difference than simple copy) and to be frank, Korea had benefit it huge degree from what Japan did. First, they studied and copied business model of Japan and then use Japanese components. Without Japan, there are no businesses you enjoy claiming now.

Yes, Korea will make exsisting products cheap. You know the technologies you mentioned are mature one. (still rely on Japanese though). This sector is moving fast and as new products with new technologies comes, Korea will again be eating dust of Japan as it always have been. Good example will be next flat panels. Just wait and look.

Also, on seperate note, Korea did not participate on war crimes, get your fact straight. There were Korean soldiers in the midst who were forced to commit the crime. They were conscripted or forced to join the army by Japan. Don't push blame on others. You learned so much from the Germans except that. I said repeatedly that Korea hasn't surpassed Japan in all areas. There are many areas including GDP that it needs to catch up to. But if they do what they've been doing in Shipbuilding, IT, Automobile, Electronics, and others, there's no reason why they can't catch up. And it'd be foolish to think they can't. And btw, Germans did it first, achieving economic and industrial might after WWII. Japan followed its example.

Korea has trade inbalance with Japan. You know the amount last year alone? 30 Bil US$. Out of this figure, electronics occupy huge portion. Electronics include LCD panels etc that you are so proud of. Samsung LCD, cell phone are good as Japanese one because you know why by now. Samsung made huge profit but money flow to Japan eventually. And Japanese companies will never disclose core tech and future tech now under R&D phase.

Sigh, problem is, your argument is a snapshot of what is. Is Korea behind Japan at this time? Certainly. But my argument looks at past history to current development, where they are today and where they are heading. Do Japan still owns certain core technology? Yes. But is Korea only making shells? NO. I've already told you Korea owns core technology in several key sectors. Sony wouldn't sign MOU with Samsung on patent swap worth billions if this wasn't the case.

If you look at number of patents claimed last year. Samsung was less than Panasonic. Do not count other Japanese sonsumer electronics companies. Yes, I do not deny Samsung doing great, but comparing to Japanese, it is still very small.

You criticize quality of Korean cars not matching Japanese, but ask Japanese car manufacture who they are afriad of most, it's the koreans. You know Korean helped Japan for some of these things. Like European countries, Japan was very cruel back in WW2. I would say US is the most cruel country in the world back then and today. All these advanced top countries were/are distarbing to 3rd would countries. Gosling the numbers you described below except for GDP aren't a fair comparison due to the size of country and population. And why bring these up? This is a measure of how well they are doing? Anyway per capita Korea has one of the highest internet and mobile concentration in the world. Look up the number again. As for GDP, did I say Koreans were higher than Japan? 60's and 70's Japan used to produced crap immitation brands but managed to build world class brands. And become no' 2 economy
