My interest is in mother ducks' behavior. To test whether or not a mother duck has true love: (1) put her into a dangerous situation (e.g. stoning her) and force her to fly away (2) physically abuse her baby ducks (e.g. break their legs, tear off two little wings) so that they keep chirping and crawling (3) stand beside these baby ducks (4) see whether the mother duck has the courage to come back to protect her baby ducks. I've tested (1) - (4) in at least 30 occasions => NO mothers come back.

Sometimes 6 out 7 will be gone by the end of first month. When ducks are breeding in our nearby pond, herons will fly in feeding on the new born ducklings like crazy. They stand away watching all the babies then glide in suddenly, picking one w/ their long beak out of water, flying to the other side of bank and then, "ouch", devouring the chick in front of its mom. Makes me cringe to watch. The distraught moms cannot do anything than produce a lot of babies and hope maybe 2 or 3 can survive it.

reason?well they are born on our stream soon we see them we catch them to put in a pen in the pets corner for apx 4 wks with there water bowel gets bigger when they get bigger so can oli there wings,then we let them out of the run but leave in pets corner apx 4 wks then kick them out back to the stream & we never loose any.

if you did't catch them the seaguil wud have em.& reason we don't loose any.
