I never saw this when it first came out (bloody parents!) but I got it on dvd and vhs a while ago and I STILL can't belive they killed off Prime! Watching it as an adult I had a huge lump in my throat, but if I was a kid, i'd be devastated! The ONLY film that has worked by killing off the main character so early on is Robocop...you just DON'T do that with kids cartoons :o(
That said, it's very well done and it'll always be in my top 10 movies.
I really hate how they kill off characters just because they finished that particular toyline. They should separate the show from the toy line. The show becomes too restricted like that.
I know but this wouldn't be the last time they did it either. And another thing that pisses me off is that Grimlock and the Dinobots went from badasses to comic relief after the movie. Then there's also all those new bots they made in G2. It's all friggin' ridiculous.
The one thing I didn't like was how countless Autobots died (Prowl and Brawn to a single shot no less), but not a single Decepticon fell, even during the attack on Autobot City. They should've had Prowl's shot take out a random Decepticon and same with Ironhide and Rachet's shots. Oh well.
All the deaths that were shown were mandated by the toyline, Hasbro don't want to make an Ironhide toy anymore thus Ironhide dies. Same for Ratchet, Prowl,
They only killed off characters with expensive toys so they could retire them from the toyline. Most of the decepticons (with the exception of the seekers and the insecticons) survived because they were cheap to make.
There are exceptions though. Jazz was popular enough for the character to live on after the toy was junked.
I don't think it was because they were "expensive". Cliffjumper and Windcharger were dropped from both the cartoon and the toyline, replaced by Tailgate and Hubcap, which would have cost money for even the minor remolding present in those figures.
I believe the toys had just simply run their course, and Hasbro wanted to introduce something new(er).

Animated's more faithful to G1 than Armada or Energon story-wise. The only thing that Armada or Energon really do better to being more faithful to G1 is the designs.
Yeah, the robot designs of Armada and Energon are pretty much the only thing more faithful to G1 than Animated which is more faithful in pretty much all other ways. I like the designs of all G1, Beast Wars, Armada, and Animated.
id have to disagree my friend. After G1 they started to look ugly to me or just way too over the top. But thats just me and as cool as the Movie CG transformers look...there is too much going on with them. "less is more"
The first one I actually loved. ROTF was just so disappointing despite all the hype and excitement leading up to the movie. The negatives greatly outweighed the positives and they kept picking at me like a kidney stone. I guess it's time to get a new director for these movies. Somebody who's ego isn't so completely out-of-whack and somebody who doesn't rely entirely on special effects to tell a story. I nominate Steven Spielberg. He'd do it right!
Oh yeah, that's Shockwave at the beginning. The millions of times I watched this, I paid attention to that. In this movie's story, he dies when Unicron smashes a tower on Cybertron, but they didn't put it in this movie. I remember they said that he was in the middle of giving orders when it happened. Poor Shockwave :*( But that's why you never see him in the TV series.
They never really developed any way of making sure that their bases are spyproof. Especially after catching either Laserbeak or Ravage countless of times before.
Years ago we were supposed to be in an intergalactic war in 2005 with robots and stuff.. I am dissapointed. Where are the robots? D=. I guess they're robots in disguise for a reason..

A lot of people compare this film to Star Wars and I won't deny it, but they did a lot of interesting things.
I love this scene as it shows Unicron annialating a whole world in disturbing detail, and the Death Star just blew shit up.
Plus the Quintessons were interesting new enemies and were great in Season 3, although season 3 is either a love/hate thing with most people.

Even in the G1 series, why didnt the Autobts ever think to take out Laserbeak? Lol seems like without him the Deceptcons would be pretty crippled

Such heroic nonsense! I love the movie but most of the Autobots died! I hated to see Optimus, Ironhide, Prowl, Brawn, Wheeljack, Windcharger and Rachet bite the the dust! But luckly OP returned in the series due to Hasbro getting a shit load of angry letters from angry parents! When I first saw this a kid I cried! I was 7 and remember sleeping with my Otpimus Prime figure for 2 days. I was very emotion kid! Does any one remember "Follow That Bird"...the Sesame Street movie...I cried!!!!

Because, frankly speaking, they weren't in the movie that much. Optimus died a quarter of the way in.

You don't get that anymore in cartoons, the gritty side of shows. I cried when Optimus died... so bravely. I had this nagging feeling when he said "Megatron must be stopped... no matter the cost"

y'know, transformers animated is pretty faithul to the original series ( but not as much as "armada" or "energon") but i would REALLY like to see is autobot cybertron (from "transformers cybertron") fight against decpticon unicron

Animated's more faithful to G1 than Armada or Energon story-wise. The only thing that Armada or Energon really do better to being more faithful to G1 is the designs.

Yeah, the robot designs of Armada and Energon are pretty much the only thing more faithful to G1 than Animated which is more faithful in pretty much all other ways. I like the designs of all G1, Beast Wars, Armada, and Animated.

id have to disagree my friend. After G1 they started to look ugly to me or just way too over the top. But thats just me and as cool as the Movie CG transformers look...there is too much going on with them. "less is more"

The first one I actually loved. ROTF was just so disappointing despite all the hype and excitement leading up to the movie. The negatives greatly outweighed the positives and they kept picking at me like a kidney stone. I guess it's time to get a new director for these movies. Somebody who's ego isn't so completely out-of-whack and somebody who doesn't rely entirely on special effects to tell a story. I nominate Steven Spielberg. He'd do it right!

Oh yeah, that's Shockwave at the beginning. The millions of times I watched this, I paid attention to that. In this movie's story, he dies when Unicron smashes a tower on Cybertron, but they didn't put it in this movie. I remember they said that he was in the middle of giving orders when it happened. Poor Shockwave :*( But that's why you never see him in the TV series.

Funny thing is that the Autobots never learn.
They never really developed any way of making sure that their bases are spyproof. Especially after catching either Laserbeak or Ravage countless of times before.

Philosophically speaking, this has to be one of the greatest introductions into any movie.
And this was before photosensitive epilepsy was discovered ;) I wonder how many kids died watching this opening scene.

I love how four years ago we were supposed to be part of an intergalactic war between rival giant robot factions.
I understand that back in the day this year seemed far off and with great promise but nonetheless the fact its 2009 and no giant robot war makes for a bit of humor.

there in space- they also lost control of cybertron because they were in space thats the reason and because at earth they dont die that easily because there NOT IN SPACE!!

The first time I watched this was over at a mates house. When Brawn dropped to the floor and didn't get up I just looked over at him in bewilderment. It was just right out of the blue.
