yeah i checked the idle and cleaned out the carb and all the gas stuff. i just got this bike about a month ago when my dad got a 04 rm 250 i traded him the rm for my old o1 xr80r b4 that i had a 07 klx 110 and b4 i had like a early 90s honda 80. so i have no experinse workn on these bigger bikes really. there is something making a knocking sound tho. my papaw told that its prob the rings or the bearings.

I have a 2001 rm 250 and the thing will start up but as soon as i let off the gas it dies. i cant figure out whats wrong with it. and i would rether not spend alot of money takn it over to the cycle shop and let them figure it out. does anybody why it would do that? its just started doing this yesterday.

it´s all up to the use of the machine, if your just an farmer just out to play, buy a 250 if you want, if you going to start racing or somthing where you realy use the bikes engine, my advice is to start whit somthing smaller if you gonna race or somthing like that, but if its just for fun at home or somthing, then i see no bounderies to have a 250:)

I started off with an 00 rm 250 as my first bike and I had never ridden a bike before ever....its alot at first but you get the hang of it fast if you have self control

Now I want more power andd im happy i started with a 250 cause I think I would be bored of 125 really fast

Scotty is mostly right start with a 125 but never use synthetic its hard on a wet clutch.(cause it to slip) and mix 32:1 as recomended by owners manual.

using synthetics shouldnt be a problem. In 4 stroke bikes, when u use car oil containing friction modifiers on wet clutches, you will get slip. But there shouldnt be any friction modifiers in 2T oils.

ok well if you have never owned a dirtbike i would sugest a 125 not a 250 first of all. Change the gear oil every like 10 hours and mix the gas 40 to 1 sythetic use amsoil or something
