This happened to me too. It is a glitch with the dead body of an enemy. You can shoot it with a weapon, and it will fall apart like the dead bodies do. It has happened to me with super mutants, and raiders.
This is actually a secret boss, defeat him by stabbing him with stimpacks. If you do Moira will marry you and live in your megaton house and only wear power lingerie that she got from the sisterhood of steel.
Theirs been a few patches, but since people have reported this same glitch in oblivion, and it's still not been fixed in that, then i very much doubt they'll bother fixing it in fallout now.
I think i recorded this just after i'd been through the mine field, game seems to have a problem with blowing up someone who's already dead i think, this thing nearly set off the whole minefield when i was in the middle of it. Guess those pesky aliens did more than just crash land on the planet ;)
Lol, at the end when you kill autumm, his head was extended way over to the other side of the room. You could kill him from anywhere but h couldnt get you. Dont knowhow it happened it was just after i loaded up a save though
The patch fixed a few bugs, yes, bus as far as I know, there are still a few bugs. These bugs aren't anything major and really won't get in your way of playing the game. If something does happen, you can always load your game or just restart your system, which you probably won't need to anyway. There ARE trophies now, which add so much more fun to this game. My friend actually collected them all and it's very nice :) I'm going to get this game tomorrow. if u buy it and dont like it, ur not alone
I had this same exact bug happen to me with Stockholm on top of Megaton.
No it's not supposed to be in game, I believe it to be a glitch called a Havok Explosion. It's a bug with the physics engine. Other Havok games have similar bugs. Robot Arena 2 was BAD about it. It's kinda like a black hole in real physics, where once you reach a certain amount of force, nothing can counter it, like a black hole. Except this is done with centrifugal force reaching an event horizon.
who knows fallout 3 is an overall wierd game these so called glitches could just be a part of the collection of strange things in the wasteland or they could just be glitches cause i dont know!

has anyone had the red wall glitch that i wrote about in the fallout 3 trailer video on youtube. a weird red wall just bloken my view from seeing infront of me and it would shift and stff when i looked in differnt directions.
some guy posted a video almost exactly like this but was on the 360 version. He shot a womans arm off and after a few seconds she started flying around like crazy.

I was shooting at people in Paradise Falls and then i looked at her, and BOOM! she blew up in a big brow wall! and then the settlers kill me =(
