just wondering why you are using the clutch? Kind of defeats the point in having a sequential box? I though you could shift without using the clutch at all?
@pknivett I love sequentials ever since I drove a formula 1600 renault. My god it's such a sweet feeling. I'm looking around to see if theres a sequential transaxle I can fit into my 240sx right now.
i am also in the interest for a sequential gearbox myself! i have an sr20det and i know the Hewland IGTC-4 sequential box is good for our application, just need to get a rear differential also.
@macagnoful I want either a 5 or 6 speed. The one you mention is a 4 speed is it not? And note I mentioned transaxle not transission. So I expect it to have a built in diff. If I can get a transaxle in the back and run a torque tube that would greatly improve the weight and balance of the car.
@ztunelover your better off buying a R35 then lol unless we can integrate an R35 drivetrain on our chassis that would be insane! The IGTC-4 is a 6spd sequential gearbox. Here is a video of an S15 with that transmission with only 450hp keeping up with 700hp vipers.
@emtildeath It's still possible to drive on the street with a sequential gearbox but changing gear at low engine revs will bruise and damage the engagement dogs on the gears and dog rings in the gearbox.
This type of gearbox is designed with high rev' gear changes in mind and at high revs gives a very fast and accurate gear change but is not well suited to road use due to the occurrence of slow rev gear changes typical when driving in traffic, it is these that will cause damage.
@NUDIIE Actually, it's perfectly suited to everyday road use. It's not low engine speeds that damage dog gears, it's slow gearchanges - where people try and 'feed' the gear 'in.'
Extending your argument to its logical conclusion - motorcycles would suffer in traffic because they use the same dog engagement shift mechanism!!!
@g4m3rsc0r3 You wouldn't need to pull the clutch in if you had a flatshift linked up on this gearbox, but as it was running in a prototype form I elected to use the clutch to preserve the life of the gear dogs.
@cdawg1113 Yes, it's daily driveable - you can shift easily at low revs and in traffic...after all motorcycles use dog engagement sequential gearboxes for everyday use...
@pknivett If you are still using this car primarily for road use i would not recommend fitting a sequential gearbox as gear shifts at low revs will cause damage to the gearbox and will result in regular rebuilds and added expense to an already very expensive purchase, synchromesh gearboxes are far better for road use
Sounds like a good idea to me! Would be good to fit a strain gauge for flat shift too. Have you any idea if Quaife plan to adapt the kit for use in other Ford vehicles? I have a 210hp N/A MK6 Escort with the early IB5 gearbox and the car would be amazing with a flat shift sequential!
It's a very good box, nice to drive and with the taller gearing option it would be perfect for road / trackday use. As it was, the short gearing was perfect for the Brands Hatch Indy circuit...
No, the Fiesta belongs to Quaife Engineering. The gearbox is capable of clutchless upshifts but as it's the prototype I was treating it gently during this road test.
I don't know what the 0-60mph time would be but it's considerably quicker than a standard ST150 because of the short gearing with the Quaife sequential gearbox.
the whine sounds shit what the fuck dog box is this

Hes probablly using the clutch to prolong the life of the transmission since they can get pricey

Would it fit the 1.4/1.6 focus box? pretty sure it is an IB5 aswell. or maybe it is the 1.8/2.0? cheers

and everytime you must to press the clutch???
I read that you don't need a clutc..only when you go and when you stop...
Brainwasher555 11 months ago
you look cramp in that car...
poeticromance 11 months ago
Well, we can't say it's a real sequential gearbox as you gotta use the clutch... It's more a "H" pattern to a "straight" pattern conversion...

does the sequential gear box give more power? + can u instal it on all manual cars?+ how much does cost yours in euro?

Is it easy to get the hang of if you're going from a H gearbox to a sequential?

@HyperCam3Vids It's a doddle. At first it feels a bit odd, but after a while, the struggle is going back to an 'h'-pattern box!

nice whine from the dog cut gears me likey

@cunt3d The whine is from the straight cut gears, you get the same noise from a Quaife H-pattern gearkit with 'Spur' gears.

can you skip down gears without releasing the clutch as in 4th thru to 2nd gear? As in a double push of the gear lever?

@muraalf93.. thats just to pop it in reverse

@trevcannon Yes, that's the reverse lock out. When you're in neutral you lift the lock out and the gear lever can index forward into reverse.
