  • this defense suxxx balls, try solve the same problem by krav-maga technic. Believe me, is more easy to do , and more adapted to the real danger situation. I love bjj but at the street KM is unbeaten.

  • one tip, grab the attackers forearms and pull down as you move your feet. Otherwise that bear hug can turn into a choke pretty easily. If you watch him in the video he kind of does that but not as well as he should.

  • @DragonZord90 when i was a kid bullies would try to do the bear hug to me all the time and i would head butt them and give them a bloody nose. but yeah i bet theres alot of dumb asses that would try a move like that but it dont work. usually someone picking a fight dont know anything and act like lil kids.....

  • Size and weight doesnt mean shit when u r defending urself, Use the attackers weight against him. A good offensive attack is a quick defensive move.

  • I've stepped behind and lifted someone up like that in a similar situation that occurred when sparring at high intensity against someone of a similar size and weight. So, I know for a fact that it works. I haven't tried it against anyone larger, though.

  • If you bring his arms up by your throat, the man is going to choke you! Then your in trouble! Trap his hands down low by putting your pinky fingers in your chest and run forward to disrupt his balance. Then, stomp his feet, throw your head back hard, and then throw your butt back. Step out and back after you throw the butt. Then, drive him to the ground and finish him. That way there is no oportunity for the choke. Just a thought.

  • Do you see where the real oponent will start chocking him? At 0:34 the real living attacker will get a chocke hold on him if he does that in the real world!

  • If you do it right you wont have to worry about that. Lift with your back and your legs WHILE you pull his knees up. But this technique is one of MANy diferent types to defend against a bear hug

  • Some critics.. If the attacker had taken the hug a little big lower, this won't work.

    If this work, he will take a strangle hold grip at him.

  • not that this isn't a good move but

    uhhh the guy being bear hugged is bigger

    then the attacker. it a pretty good chance that the attacker(s) is going to be bigger then you. so this throw may not work so well for people that shorted then the attacker.(i could be wrong on this)

  • this is a defense i had learned in my combat jujitsu, except as a white belt i was only taught how to escape the hold by hitting in the gut with your butt and swinging your arms out to the sides simultaniously. It does break the hold but is it really effective?

  • that's what I learned.

  • The throw is called Sukui Nage (scooping throw in judo). It can also be done with more of a twisting motion, and less of a picking the guy up motion. In other words, as you get your knee under/behind his instead of scooping him up. just rotate and blast him with your elbow.
