The song was written by Jerry Cantrell for his father (Jerry Cantrell Sr.) who went by the nickname "rooster" while serving in the Army (101st Airborne) during nam.
He was a M60 Gunner. "Rooster" is somewhat of a nomenclature for the M60's muzzle flash. (though it applies to just about any LMG/HMG)

My dad's best friend didn't make it back from Iraq so on his birthday we listen to this and on the he died we listen to this and the day that he died we wouldn't listen to anything else. This is he song that I'm playing 3 days now in honor of Uncle Eric.

The song was written by Jerry Cantrell for his father (Jerry Cantrell Sr.) who went by the nickname "rooster" while serving in the Army (101st Airborne) during nam.
He was a M60 Gunner. "Rooster" is somewhat of a nomenclature for the M60's muzzle flash. (though it applies to just about any LMG/HMG)

Man I remember my dad had just got home from Iraq and i hadn't seen him in about shit almost a year. We went to see some horror movie and we were listening to this shit metal station. And this song comes on. My dad yelled in his Arabian accent this is my jam!!! And just blasted it and we was doing air drums and I was doing air guitar. People were just watching us and laughing their asses off.
