I second the comment on the existence of laser harps. I had designed one some years ago whilst at college to work with my synth array. They are complex tools to build and program and at the same time, very tactile. I say this as the use of a laser can be tactile due to the exposure to laser radiation. you feel the heat of each beam. The tune is off but the user demonstrating this is doing a decent job. I understand that plans are available for one to make these systems.
It amuses me how many people think this is fake. I was thinking about making a laser instrument before I ever found out about the laser harp. There is no good reason why it wouldn't work. If a laser can trip an alarm, then why not this? Once I get around to making a laser instrument I will post a video.
a laser harp is actually not very high tech. but it looks really awesome. it works almost the same way as an alarm sensor. when you trigger it, it makes a noise/sound
Speakin' about the Rendez-Vous album a real Laser Harp was used by Jarre during recording and live stages as a simple midi (or probably CV) message controller but, actual, the sound came off from an Elka Synthex (the best Italian Synth ever made). I know it for sue, since I've owned a Synthex fifteen years ago and I still have the samples of the so called "Jarre Laser Harp" sounds. So, zenocomplex, have you ever tried an Elka Synthex ?
no i haven't ever played one, but i've only heard amazing things about them. and from the samples of them i've heard, they're all very rich, lush sounds for an analog synth. really impressive instrument.
i'd like to make sure you know i wasn't insulting the laser harp as an instrument. i know they work, i was just saying i'm not qualified to make a judgment about this particular video.
I have plans to build a laser harp if anyone is interested... Just inbox me and ill send you the PDF and the software.. :)
