This was actually brillaint. John Barrowman needs to stop being such a bitch. The way he hugged denise when Jessie came 2nd was horrible. Reminded me of bitchy kids in the playground putting down somebody because they're talented/different.
I have to say I think that John did have valid criticism in there and Denise did emphasise some of his points. Obviously Jessie is good, but her consistency was an issue throughout the series.. Her vocal talent though is excellent for someone of her age and it is hard to sing, so I do think she tried her best even if she seemed to appear awkward.

bloody awful. But, it's not really her type of song. Even really experienced singers would find it hard performing this song live. I don't see why they gave her it. And even after that deafening performence she was never in the bottom two. shows she was really good most of the time.
It was awful, and they knew it would be.
It puts me off watching this kind of show. Becuase they humiliate people for entertainment.
Well if it's not a talent competition, then why are they given these pop songs to sing. JB'S vioce annoys me. "Blah, blah blah, this is not a talent compitition. Meow" But I can't help but like him. A little annyway. Not his personality however.
Nancy doesn't sing fighter... Confused. If it's a casting compitition then MT songs should be the focus. And Jessie was always good when singing them.
Jb could see she was good. But not as Nancy. And his bias comments were obvious and cruel.
i agree with jack hartness (john barrowman) it is a casting compertition if you be in britain's got the pop factor. X-factor pop idol or last chior standing
This was Jessie's worst performance. It looked awful. But I do think she should have actually won the role, her performance in the final was outstanding.
The song is very shouty anyway, and I don't think Christina's diction is very good in the original. She was screwed over by song choice, but I did understand every word she sang.
Well i have to disagree with that.I loved that performance Jodie and Jessie should have won thats what i think that was so harsh what John Barrowman said.
Mine too, I said on another video (the Nancy Diary or Show 6 Mission, one of the two) that I would actually marry her, and I wasn't kidding. Stunning, charismatic, funny, talented, intelligent, what more could you want? >I Love Jessie! .x
Throughout this competition the whipping boys have been Ashley, Jessie and Niamh (more so the other two), none of the other Nancys got half the slating that these three.
the person who choose this song for her was an absolute idiot. No body can sing this well except for Christina Aguilera. She won't have to sing any of this on the west end. She's amazing, thats all i have to say :)
Very well put! I agree completely. It's such a tough song to sing - written for Christina alone. I think JESSIE has a magical quality. I hope she impresses on Saturday night - I know she is capable of getting even John Barrowman on her side.
Ok i know she had a bad week, but that doesnt mean you should all turn against her. She is the best Nancy and has the full package, i luv her loads please vote for her she has GOT to be in the final

the only thing jessie can do is sing and she can't even do that in this....how can you expect to see someone on the west end who looks this awkward EVERYTIME she sings except for when she is standing stock still??
this was horrible and she has been the weakest in every single acting challenge....go HOME
Jessie is veyr individual. She sings wierd om some songs, but you KNOW its Jessie. All teh others sound very similar to each other. Jessie has that stand out quality............
i think it's unfair to say jessie has a shouting voice rather than a singing voice. this number requires an aggressive edge and her voice reflected this on the night.
while her performance of 'the man that got away' was stunning and had a very clean/pure sound.
this wasnt her best week, but im sure she'll be back to her fab self tonight.
I think the judges were harsh on all of this weeks performances. I can't believe that some of you are saying she's cocky though??????? Please can someone tell me how because I don't see cockyness remotely! I think everyone would struggle with a Christina Aguilera song and she tried her best. Let's hope she comes back amazing next week. My Nancy is Jessie. Please vote!
They weren't harsh on Jodie. They were very complimentary except for ALW who did his utter best to find something to fault in Jodie's performance when there was nothing to pick holes in. All the others fully deserved their comments.
I agree, Jessie is terrible, she always shouts, she can't dance and in this one she was out of tune. I'd like Niamh to win but if she doesn't Samantha or Jodie would both meake great Nancy's. I think any of those three will have good careers after whether they win or not.
I am in no doubt that Jessie can sing and I am also in no doubt what a shameful state the West End is in right now. My anger in this case comes from the fact that most shows in the West End aren't 'Oliver', nor are they a Sam Mendes production starring the likes of Rowan Atkinson. My frustration is in the potential that this particular production has shown thus far, potential that will be wasted if they pick the wrong Nancy, which it seems they almost certainly will. I am thrilled there is...
...someone else out there who sees what a colossal waste of time and space Jodie is as a performer, but I am afraid I share a similar opinion of all the other contenders for the role bar Rachel, the only girl who has shown the composure, consistency, and all-round talent required to pull off Nancy eight times a week. Sadly the viewing public has been taken in by the wide-eyed enthusiasm of a weakly talented girl who only seems special because, as you rightly point out, most...
...of the West End is in such dire straits as it is. I just hoped they might cast someone who lived to have a career beyond this show. If she wins, I fear Jessie will be just another Connie Fisher, as opposed to the runaway (and hopefully enduring) success that Lee Mead is proving to be...
I totally agree. However, I feel that it plays into the hands of ALW that they do not agree on what type of show this is because it allows him to comment indiscriminately on whoever he wants, however he wants. As I've said before, the fact that Jessie is 'outside her comfort zone' is no excuse at all for a performer hoping to be the West End's next leading lady, and I think he knows that it's not. The sad thing is, from all the Wikipedia facts he has at his finger tips, it is clear he has...
...made up his mind that she'll do and, perhaps more importantly, she'll sell tickets - sadly not to me or any other discerning theatre viewer I know.
Discerning theater viewer??? When is the last time you were in the west end? It is hard to find a show that has not been spoiled by some b list celebrity stinking up the leading role. Jessie would enhance the west end by an immeasurable amount. In fact the only one left in the show that would not be up to it is Jodie. Her voice is so boring. Right notes, right timing but no tone whatsoever. Try sitting through March, Hasselhof, Van Outen, Holden etc and then tell me Jessie cant sing.
I don't think any of the finalists could have sung Survivor convincingly! Or many of the other songs they've been given, and which tend to make this show into a "talent competition". Not their fault, therefore, and not what any of them want to sing - stage musicals - a different type of performing altogether. Perhaps that would not be good TV, though?
Criticising them for following directions to sing to this or that camera is silly; they all need to agree on what type of show this is.
i love her and on the comments i checked out chritina aguileras version again and you cant understand much of her jessies diction is miles better and well i think the irish acentgives it something else
yea i agree that her diction was quite bad on this song but i think jessie is brilliant and she just has to be herself, she wasn't the only one with bad diction and that song was so difficult compared to all the others
I like the Irish lilt! And anyway, all the Nancys seem to sing in American accents, and nobody ever comments on that...if we all follow what John says, I suppose that means the Nancys should all sing in Cockney from now on...oh well, rock on Jessie! You'll win!
I dont see why everyone rates jesse as she really isnt anything special. Her voice isnt that good and its really hard to understand what she is saying. Also she has no stage presence and has no posture at all.
it isnt a bad sign that he said Nancy could have been irish- its a good point, and it just means hes been thinking about the fact that Jessie's irish, it doesnt mean hes stretching the role.
yeh they said her diction was really bad and some people are saying Sam's was bad too, but I hadn't heard either of the songs that Jessie and Sam sung and I would hear all of them just fine so I think that the judges were just being harsh in my opinion.
Her diction was no worse than Sam's, and Barrowman made no comment on that, I suspect he knew the words of the Destiny Child's song prior to last Saturday but not the Aguilera. The degree of difficulty of this song compared to what others sang made it a bit unfair. Would any of the others have made a better fist of this song?
i agree with john it is casting not a talent and i agree with Barry Nancy may of come from Ireland but how she is wrote in the play she has a cockney accent and if dickins wanted Nancy to have a bit of an Irish accent he should of mentioned it briefly but saying that i liked it and am sorry if writing the above has caused any insult but thats just my view, last week "the man who got away" one of my fav songs and she did do it justice jessie just needs to take a deep breath and go for it
Barrowman is right. This is not a talent competition. I don't mind her accent, it's her total lack of experience and her obviously limited range that concern me. There is nothing more 'outside one's comfort zone' than the opening night of any show in any theatre, let alone the West End in front of the most discerning critics in the business. She won't last five minutes and will be the latest casualty of Lloyd-Webber's random caprice. Don't get me started on the parrot that is Barry Humphries...
Jessie sings that word at 0:52 and at 1:33 and like yourself I've had great difficulty in telling whether she sings 'thicker' or 'ticker'. I would put it down to the sound quality being a lot sharper live in the studio rather than on a reproduction such as a video.
i actually am soooo happy that someone agrees with me its NOT a talent competition ....its a casting. just cause she sings great doesn't mean that she's nancy honestly i think she needs more training then think how good she would be
I think this was fab!! Sure, it wasn't her best performance but so what, she isn't going to be singing this song if she makes it to the west end, which i think she will, so it just means that this type of song doesn't suit her voice. Note every type of song will suit every persons voice. Jessie to win!! xx
I dont understand why the panal is suddenly saying Nancy could have been Irish when so much focus has been with the London/ Eastend tasks. If Nancy is Irish then ALL of them should learn the Irish accent. They shouldnt make acceptions just for her.
not surprised Jamie is a grifter and not Simon Cowell. Dunno what Mr Barrowman was on either. This is such a hard song to sing and I think it was the best performance of the night. I could hear all of the words. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is awesome :)
Terrible! Andrew Lloyd Webber is so biased with her. She does a terrible performance this week so he harps about how good she was last week so the public remember! Why are they getting training from Babs Windsor to become true East Enders one week, then ALW says she could just as well been Irish! It's becoming a farce! I don't like Ashley but even she was better than this tripe! There's no point wasting your phone bill voting because they will see to it that their favourites are in the final!
well said jamiegrifter I totaly agree Jessie shouted her way through this and her diction was dreadful. And as for Lord Webber saying Nancy could just as wel been Irish???? why on earth have the girls go to an Eastend market and have coaching from Babs Windsor????
You go for it girl. Don,t let then bring you down. When them Irish eyes are smilling, you make everybody smill. You have been my Nancy from the start.
She wasn't bad, but it wasn't a contender's performance either. Jessie ought to have ambitions of winning this, but she needs to step back up to do it.
I don't care what anyone says, I bloody loved this, my favourite song of the series!
Phoebe2896 6 months ago
I don't understand how the panel didn't understand the lyric. I had no problem with her diction, and English isn't even my native tongue.

She slipped up here. But some of her other performances were amazing she's got a chance to win

On tv it sounded a lot like ticker :D mon the irish

i actually am soooo happy that someone agrees with me its NOT a talent competition ....its a casting. just cause she sings great doesn't mean that she's nancy honestly i think she needs more training then think how good she would be
my opinion though.
rachel, samantha or jodie to win :D

Barrowman and Denise were the only people talking sense here.

They shouldnt make acceptions just for her.

i love her but this wasnt her best

not surprised Jamie is a grifter and not Simon Cowell. Dunno what Mr Barrowman was on either. This is such a hard song to sing and I think it was the best performance of the night. I could hear all of the words. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is awesome :)

to jamiegrifter what are you on...jessie is fab, talented, best lookin ,best singer and must win.she,s also very humble go jessie...

There's no point wasting your phone bill voting because they will see to it that their favourites are in the final!
jamiegrifter 3 years ago
well said jamiegrifter I totaly agree Jessie shouted her way through this and her diction was dreadful.

OMG - a bit rough at the edges - deffo not her best. However, I think it is between her and Sam.

Another consistant performance from Jessie, not as good as last week which i must say was spectacular.
Shame about that one dodgy note, but thats what Rachel did last week and she stayed in
But she should deffo stasy in this week with this performance
