I never got a chance to play Abyss and I just saw it in stores for $49.99... Is it worth it?
I'm a tales fan and i"m pretty much dying of boredom from the lack of Tales games, amplified by the fact that Graces F is no where to be seen yet and Xillia is far from being announced for a overseas release.(Might import though..)
Well, i guess it's not a big deal now since tales of xilia is coming for the ps3, so it should be the very first optimized and dedicated tales for the console.
Missed this game because stupid assed europe didnt get this game while the rest of the world got it... :( Really wish something as good in story and character as this game comes to xbox360. Tear is the best
I LOVE THE TALES SERIES but i really think they should make the games for XBOX 360 and PS3 like remake them for the new systems then it would have better loading and stuff ya kno just an idea cuz everyone now has a PS3 or Xbox 360 so everyone will play them. This game seriously needs a remake on a better console. The huge loading times almost ruined the experience for me. But aside from that, the game has very good characters, and enjoyable battle system. The people that criticize the game are nuts, to fully review a game you need to play it from the beginning to the end dumbfucks. The ps2 has its limits, geeze. It's also my favorite opening on the tales series.
Personally , i was hoping we could get a HD release on a next gen system, the ps3 would be the perfect choice, going to nintendo doesn't make any sense at all, did you noticed that tales of vesperia and tales of graces upgraded and final editions were released for the ps3 system? I bought both of them.

Good game and good opening...If only there was Any sign of another similar game with a original and great story. But so far in the game magazines (I skim through them) I haven't spotted anything. *Sighs* Did all the imaginative folk get fired from the companies? :(
Try the other Tales games, I love Tales of Abyss, but if you ever get a chance, try some of the others, like the one I and others I think may heavily recommend, Tales of Vesperia for the 360 and soon PS3.
I highly recommend this game, it's fun, a mixture between rpg strategy and battle with mana wasting skills (well, some know that the tales series are all like this) Tales of the Abyss has a good storyline and the game IS long, it's "long enough" and that makes it even better.
I have to say that I expected more of the opening of the japanes version, although, I prefer the American version, to me the guitar there, sounds better than the voice in this opnening ^^. But that's my opinion after all ¬_¬ ....

It's on the opposite side of the Absorption Gate. So basically you can go to the Absorption Gate then head dead north until you pop up on the bottom on the map and keep going north until you see a massive energy field.
of all, this was my favorite game of the series and one of the top 3 best games i have ever played. Phantasia was ok. Destiny was truly excellent, and legendia was also wonderfully played out.
i wish the remake of tales of destiny would come to the states.
i am looking forward to the anime seires adaptation of the abyss coming out sometime soon.

Legendia is my favorite game in the world. No game can surpass it's storyline and character development. Abyss is in my top 5, easily, and I still really want to get Vesperia. No doubt it will be awesome as well. Tales of series is 100%, by far, the best RPG gaming series of ALL TIME. <3 And I agree. This should be the anime opening.
luv legendias BGM especially "The meeting place is the fountain plaza" and "tommorrow will surely be a sunny day" also "the birds chirp I sing" great game. BUt the chibi style characters puts me off. Then again that WAS 2006 and the "abyss" was far from perfection (the graphics could stand a bit of polishing and physics) But the tales guys made up 4 it in "vesperia" awesome game. The characters are really well detailed so as the enviroment also they up'd the battle system.

Yeah, good ole' ToS. You know that the spin off came out for that game right: Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of a New World? In any case, for me, I didn't like TotA at first, but then the emotional weight got to me. If you liked the comedy in ToS, get DoaNW instead of TotA since it's heavy in TotA but more light in the spin-off with so much of the music called "Off-key" in the back round (Like with Raine kicking the lights out of Lloyd in Martel temple).

sounds diff but i like it, just sucks i dont know what to do in my game anymore, got stuck second playthrough skipping all the dialogue and was at the part were spinoza runs away, first time i went through i chased him second time i chose not to i skip some more talking and i end up in sheridan port go to sheridan talk to civs outside the main building say there a commoton in there, but when i go in theres nothing, so im pretty much lost, i went everywhere possible

Pfft, hey guy I know Japanese. I'm not 100% fluent but it's more than enough for this song, the slower pace of the vocals actually helps. That aside I meant to say that I had only heard the opening with no vocals and I loved it but when I first heard the vocals with it something just didn't click. I do not like the VOICE of the guy singing. I don't think the voice fits with the song. Although as it stands now, I've heard the song more times and I changed my mind about the singer. I like it now.

What was wrong with the English dub? I thought it was fantastic, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Unless you have a complaint about Luke's voice being annoying (which it should be anyway, because he is), or Anise's voice not sounding like someone from a loli game (which personally I've had enough of) or maybe because the dialogue is typical.

lol, VEEERY LATE reply. the english dub, to some people, sound... weird or strange or completely disgusting. Death Note was okay, but Naruto... Bleach... other anime... like this one, the english dub sound too... deliberate and stuff. japanese makes the anime sound more natural, and not like 'pretending to be cool'. idk i'm not one to talk about this XD but i gotta say i like the original japanese language better.
I think that a good English dub can easily be better than the original Japanese. English can have more range and emotion to it than Japanese because truth be told, Japanese is a rather flat language with little variation. Ever since 2003, most people have started to see an increase in good dubs. I can agree that sometimes they suck but now, most are good. Death Note for example, most seem to share the opinion that the beginning was a little off but at the end it was superior to the Japanese.
Most English Dubs for anime that I know of suck, but the thing is that they're so funny (EX: In death note when Light takes the potato chip..."I take a potato chip...*heavy breathing* AND EAT IT! There's so much emotion packed into a simple thing like eating a potato chip it's funny) that it doesn't matter that they suck.
In fact, even before the Death Note dub, there were complaints that the Japanese version was miscast a bit and sounded wrong. Then there are cases like Cromartie High School, even though the Japanese was essentially fine, the English was godly. Better in every way. It's a case by case thing really. As for Abyss, even though sometimes the English was a little funny at times (REPLICAAAAAAAA) I liked it better. It's all a matter of opinion

Yes, but the song just loses SO much of its impact when you remove the vocals! In fact, I didn't really like it until I was searching for it to show others what I was on about and ran across the original with lyrics.
I'm not saying "lolz keep the japese liriks" or anything; if they would've had an English-speaking singer dubbed over then that would probably be fine as well.

I think that a good English dub can easily be better than the original Japanese. English can have more range and emotion to it than Japanese because truth be told, Japanese is a rather flat language with little variation. Ever since 2003, most people have started to see an increase in good dubs. I can agree that sometimes they suck but now, most are good. Death Note for example, most seem to share the opinion that the beginning was a little off but at the end it was superior to the Japanese.

Most English Dubs for anime that I know of suck, but the thing is that they're so funny (EX: In death note when Light takes the potato chip..."I take a potato chip...*heavy breathing* AND EAT IT! There's so much emotion packed into a simple thing like eating a potato chip it's funny) that it doesn't matter that they suck.

In fact, even before the Death Note dub, there were complaints that the Japanese version was miscast a bit and sounded wrong. Then there are cases like Cromartie High School, even though the Japanese was essentially fine, the English was godly. Better in every way. It's a case by case thing really. As for Abyss, even though sometimes the English was a little funny at times (REPLICAAAAAAAA) I liked it better. It's all a matter of opinion

I disagree. The localization team does their very best to make the games in English for us. Please, stop being such a Japanophile, I love the Japanese versions too, but honestly, they aren't getting "fuckedfied" when being released here.

why the fuck do they take out the vocals . it is retarded. i have tales of worlds and they took the vocals out of that also . i love the songs with vocals . it sounds like Asian kung fu generation a bit . not sure if it is.

its not. they take out the vocals because the mass audience buying this game can't speak in jpanese or aren't japanese addicts. I am NOT saying i don;t like this version. i love both of them. you have to realize where things come from as well before you criticize localization teams and musical choices.

Yes, but the song just loses SO much of its impact when you remove the vocals! In fact, I didn't really like it until I was searching for it to show others what I was on about and ran across the original with lyrics.
I'm not saying "lolz keep the japese liriks" or anything; if they would've had an English-speaking singer dubbed over then that would probably be fine as well.
