It's rather good apart from the fact that there is absolutely no change at the chorus. Gives it a pretty bland feel right at the moment that you're expecting a shift in sound.
I think they made this song very charming..I love the original..but this version is so chill..beautiful even..relax a bit fellas..let the smooth baseline and melody flow..
This is really BAD! this video should be destroyed at once! I need a fellowship to take this video to mordoor where it will be cast into the depths of the volcano. Who's with me?
Oh gosh...its not that serious. Ive been a Smiths fan for more than half my life and Im 30. Ive heard alot of bad Smiths and Morrissey cover and this is not one of them!
Not a bad cover, their a talented band, although I think the phrasing is a little weird, maybe it's just because I'm so used to The Smiths version. The instrumental ideas are solid though.
It sounded like the beginning of a good remix that went nowhere: a couple piano chords & drums on loop, make the verse fit w/ beat, break w/ beginning guitar riff, repeat, end. Different, though. 'A' for effort!
language. A good translation is a creative act. Because things cannot be truly translated. The translator conveys meaning within the new language by using the linguistic wealth of that very language. In others words the Torah or the Koran are not the same book that they are in the original language. The translator rewrites the original work in a different language. Likewise the cover artist is translating the original song into his own language. He must do that for the cover to have any merit!
Covers should be a musical expansion of the original. It should open unopened doors go places where previous musicians haven't gone. If I want to listen to a cover that sounds just like The Smiths I'd rather listen to the real thing. Thus the artist covering a song must make it his own. This is a great cover that reinvented the song and took it to new levels and new places. That's what covers are all about. Covers are like translations. They are not mere acts of repetition in a different....
I agree that Stars did a fabulous job in making the song their own and make it a flawlessly cohesive piece on their debut LP Nightsongs. Nightsongs was recorded/mastered with a decidedly cold, distant, cynical tone and I prefer Stars' live revisits to this older material, now performed with their trademark unabashedly unrestrained lush instrumentation.
Smiths are a hard band to cover and get right, it can become a bad morrisey impression, or can totally not sound anything like the original at all. Good smiths covers surf a line somewhere in between. This one is OK, the songs not butchered, but it doesn't really shine like Death cab's version.
I love the Smiths and feel really excited to hear this amazing cover. I've since listened to lots of Stars tracks and think they are truly the best band I have heard for ages! ( except for the Smiths!) the back projection at this gig reminds me lots of the Smiths artwork., I want to find out more about this band and IF THEY ARE COMING TO THE UK I think their style is just perfect for me.
Thanks Stars for making me excited about music again!

This is a great remaking of the song. This song has style just like the notable and famous true artist "Morrissey."

I rate this song an 8, and Morrisey, the true artist, a 10.

Overall, a great, ORIGINAl, cover. I don't think they were trying to sound the same as Morrissey....
