I just got a German Shephard/Labrador Retriever puppy mix today for my lil girls from the shelter and i only got one cause they are going to put them to sleep in a month if they dont get a home, but I dont know about the breed ( i only had boxers ) or if its just as good as a full blood for my family

For example - you punch someone with or without a knuckle duster, the force applied is the same, yet the kunckle duster will do conciderably more damage.

I use a release command, any good trained dog is trained to listen, and wait for your commands, should not have to be pulled. If they get too into the attack, assailant trashes, kicks, very hectic...dog may need a correction on the lead to bring his focus back to the handler but should release right away. If anyone is considering having their dog trained in this, NEVER hand your dog off to a trainer to train with out you. NEVER let your dog be hit to make it aggressive,this will destroy your dog

If every time the handler approaches the dog, he is outed, with compulsion if doesn't...a thinking dog will anticipate the out...so in life and death situations, a slow out is almost a good thing! Good dogs that won't out are sometimes sold to the local PD. That being said, most K-9 and MWD handlers are not good dog trainers and buy trained dogs, so no bond (respect)

One is the correct reaction, and the other is being yanked at by his throat a few times before he finally complies with the command. Either way both dogs are bright enough to anticipate. @onlywhenprovoked No they need to be bullet proof on the call back, once it is a legal bite, the slow out prevents escape...but think of it as the dog....I get out of the car and 9/10 I get put up with no bite...when I do get a bite, one outed it's back in the car. I am not a fan of the man and therefore I care about the citizen more...(guilty or not)...just talking dog training!

But once we give them a stern command they are done. If you physically have to yank the dog off like this guy it's just a sign of a poor instructor like he presents he is. Yanking a dog around that region can do a lot of harm and most likely not the most comfortable thing for them.

@onlywhenprovoked Yes but careful what you wish for! I see dogs that out well often start to anticipate the out. If every time the handler approaches the dog, he is outed, with compulsion if doesn't...a thinking dog will anticipate the out...so in life and death situations, a slow out is almost a good thing! Good dogs that won't out are sometimes sold to the local PD. That being said, most K-9 and MWD handlers are not good dog trainers and buy trained dogs, so no bond (respect)

@wolco003 Surely an animal intelligent enough to anticipate a stage that always happens, is still going to anticipate a stage that always happens. One is the correct reaction, and the other is being yanked at by his throat a few times before he finally complies with the command. Either way both dogs are bright enough to anticipate. If what you're saying is "it's best that they're bite blind for the safety of the cop" I'd have to disagree. I think it's best for the public that it be controllable.

@onlywhenprovoked No they need to be bullet proof on the call back, once it is a legal bite, the slow out prevents escape...but think of it as the dog....I get out of the car and 9/10 I get put up with no bite...when I do get a bite, one outed it's back in the car. I am not a fan of the man and therefore I care about the citizen more...(guilty or not)...just talking dog training!

I remember one story about a certain dog that took a 2x4 to the skull after chasing a criminal into a lumber yard, the dog STILL took the man down and held him down until the police got to him.
In the end, the dog received some kind of medal for the act. :) And I think a silver dog bowl too.

And when you give a good well trained, obeying dog a command to stop it should. All this clown has down is just teach it too bite. And I have helped our local police dept. train K-9's. The officer who started the K-9 in our town is a very close friend. This guy is just a fool. You should never have to rip a dog off like that.

My cousins are in the military and they work with dogs, and they said as soon as they release the collar the dogs go for the target not holding anything back and try to rip the guy apart and when they try to get the dog off, they have to pull so it would let go, But besides from arguing I kinda see why this guy is in idoit. Military dogs and police dogs are different.

And isn't it when police release their K-9's don't they rip the guy apart and those dogs don't hold back one bit. You're making no sense at all. I have seen military dogs train and everytime they yank the dog back because they wont release, I have never seen somebody say stop and then the dog would release, they would always have to pull the dog back or yank on them.

@DeadNightGaming The Malinois at the department I help at, they will bite and hold on for dear life. You can pick them up and swing them around like rag dolls and they wont let go. But once we give them a stern command they are done. If you physically have to yank the dog off like this guy it's just a sign of a poor instructor like he presents he is. Yanking a dog around that region can do a lot of harm and most likely not the most comfortable thing for them.

But it also comes down to you training to call your dog off. You can get in BIG trouble for that even police agencies. It's just not all about the bite. @colfinator Man you reek of bullshit lol. GSD are good dogs, but are being phased out. Mal's are smaller, but can pack just as big of a punch, more aggressive, and very motivated to train. You say they are too small and too weak huh? I'd love for you to meet my Harley who is 88 pounds and breed out of Holland. And plus thats whats great about Mal's smaller than the GSD, and pack a big punch and plus they dont suffer from hip dysplasia to they point where they can't walk no more just like GSDs do
