  • Amazing!! great!!

  • You are excellent. this song reminds me of my son... Thanks man!

  • Very nice. Congratulations.

  • woww you must feel so happy playing this song as i listen it, thank man..

  • Hey, love your playing! Ever thought about doing the Tull song Only Solitaire? Would love to hear your take on it.

  • You're so good!

  • This guy should be in the band ( Jethro Tull )

  • Unbelievable good cover.

  • Very good!!! congratulations!!

  • Great Job!! Always loved that tune!------He definitely works out his issues with religion in his songs doesn't he?. It would be nice for you to do a video--chord by chord and break it down for guys like me who would love to play it!

  • NICE!!!

  • Well done!

  • Big Tull fan, here! Loved your performance!

    Joe

  • This is really good! (speaking as a Tull fan myself)

  • Uncle Ian + the Colonel = Bursting All Out. I bow my head to you, Sir.

  • whats with the echo? :0 nice playing though!

  • @TheCowboySantos LOL...echo has been known to cover-up a multitude of vocal errors in some cases...I can use all of the help I can get...hehehehe.

  • Just great ,You always do the good R&R

  • Dude nobody's mentioned your little double "wake up / wake up" emulation of Ian live. Perfection minus Ian's bug-eyed put on. You've captured it. Oh, and there was a cord change I was wanting to know, and now the riddle is solved. Thanks man.

  • excellent

  • this is a cool version of a cool song. I like the little voice effect at the end that you do to mimic the echo effect.

  • I haven't listened to Tull for years, and just started listening again... Ian Anderson, true genius. Skating is one of my favorites, and your cover is outstanding. I am going to give it a try, but will never sing it as well as you. Nice!

  • Nicely done, LC. Listening to this sure makes me want to twist up some flowertops!

  • Very nicely done!

  • Great cover of a great song - well done.

  • Always loved this song. I'm a mediocre player who was looking for "how to play" videos for this song, and I came across your post. Most covers on YouTube stink, but yours was very good. Any chance you can post the tabs?

    Thanks for the song!

  • Man, that was AWESOME. Congratulations!

  • Do not underestimate yourself here..it's great guitar work and vocals and perfect timing.I'd pay to go see you!

  • Hamer - Love this song and your rendition. Players like you who can share their joy and skills inspire my own guitar work. Thanks!!

  • é isso aí veio , vlw tu é bom mesmo

  • Excellent Job!

  • I think you did a great job... I can hear the glockenspiel in my head..

  • i think you did tull justice :)

  • Nice work Mr Hamer. Lovely cover of this song. This is the first time I've heard it but I'm sure the original can't be much better than this!

  • @mussie302 Thank you. However, the original is heads and shoulders above what I am able to do...I'm just sort of in the "singing around the campfire" mode here and enjoying myself. Thank you very much for your kind words.

  • damn good cover mate. much appreciated here in england, or at least from me!

  • nice cover of a great song

sounds great keep up the good work

  • Excellent!!!

  • A very good rendition. Don't sell yourself short.

    k

  • Well done, bro. Keep it up.

  • Hard to do well, but you did!

  • nice job Silver

  • Great cover, sir. I've been learning this song myself, but I can't figure out the chords you play at 2:13-2:15. The part where the lyrics are like: "Looking for a SIGN THAT THE UNIVERSAL MIND, has written you into the passion play". Any advice would be great. Thanks

  • sir, first time ive looked for this old favorite, took a chance and clicked on yr vid, glad i did, thanks fo rposting ;-j btw 'trebleclef' is a great style to follow :-)

  • Damn. This is one of the greatest covers I've ever seen

  • I loved it, you have a great voice. This is a good cover of one of my favorite Tull songs.

  • Exquisite.

  • Wow, I'm truly impressed by your interpretation (don't want to call it "cover" :-) ). Seems to me that you don't only play this song, you seem to live it.

And for sure it will get on one of my playlists :-)

  • Amazing!

How could I have missed that. :-o I thought I had watched ALL your Tull videos.

    Simply amazing as always. :]

  • this is amazing

  • A rush and Jethro tull fan just like me! Cool! Have you seen JT in the 2010 tour? do you know if they play skating away(on the thin ice of a new day ), jack in the green and thick as a brick? I shall see them on sunday so it would be fun know! By the way! Your Jt covers are really really good!

  • I love to listen to you play this song - your voice and playing show your passion and skill and it is my morning wakeup song before I go to work. Thanks for the inspiration and beautiful music!

  • nice version. i really enjoyed it.

  • Great playing and singing.

  • I love this song and your rendition sounds as good as it gets! Any chance you can zoom in on the fingers and slow it down a bit for a vid lesson?

  • Very well done man!!! Thnaks for posting this and teaching me a song which i had forgotten about but always have loved. You play it well. Next time try standing on one leg and leaping about the room...hahaha. There will only be one Ian. Thanks again

  • Really good. I wish I could play Tull songs like that

  • bravo

  • PERFECT!!! This is a virtual carbon-copy of the version from "Bursting Out". Very nice.

  • Nice tune!

    Respect from Russia! :)

  • This is a great rendition of a truly great song. You've kind of made a departure from the very soft style in which the song was written, but it sounds very rich and full this way. Call me crazy, but I like your guitar play better than that on the original tune. =)

  • Oh you are waaay too kind...Ian's guitar playing is much more intricate than what I am able to render. But thanks!!! I'm very glad you enjoyed this.

    LC

  • 5/5 Great tune, great taste!

  • good job silver you got skills. yea trebelclef is pretty damn good too isnt he. his rain song rendition is perfect

  • love it.thanx

  • Very nice job :)

  • let me tell you seriously now ,you playin' that pretty good and singin' too. cheers from Peru.

  • by the way are you David Crosby singin' Jethro?

  • Yea, ya busted me. Hey, it gets pretty mundane singing with the likes of Graham Nash all of the time and so this is my outlet. HAHAHA, yea, right. ;)

  • By the way..what kind of guitar is that?

  • Thanks. It's a Ventura. I am not at home at the moment so I am unable to look at it so I could give you the model info. It's an inexpensive import that I just sort of took off the rack and played around on for a couple of minutes with no real intention of buying it...but it sounded so good that I decided I needed to add it to my arsenal of guitars. :D It's a good player and sounds pretty good too.

  • As a fellow guitar player...bravo.

  • Excellent. 5/5

  • Beautiful. Well done! Inspiring!

  • Awesome! great job!

  • Wow, that is some nice, clean, and very beautiful guitar playing, sir. Well done! I really love you sound.

  • is this version from Golders Green Hippodrome in 77? sounds like it. just wondering.

  • EEK...I don't know. I just grabbed the guitar and sat down and played it from memory the best I could. I was inspired to learn it after I purchased the Bursting Out Live album around 1978 so it probably conforms more to the Bursting Out version.

  • regardless you kick ass bro!

  • That was great. You really seem to be enjoying yourself. How about a lesson on how to play it. The tabs are terrible.

  • Very nice cover. You do a good job of being true to the original, but not a parody of Anderson's stage persona. And, you play a mean acoustic guitar, too. Thanks !

    Cheers,

    Mark

  • Great sounds Silverhamer thought it was great -really enjoyed it -

  • Amazing stuff friend. You really bring tull to life quite perfectly and yet with your own delightful style. Absolutely loved it!

  • I come back to this video often, Great work, thank you

  • Very inspirational. Great job!

  • Beautiful work.

  • Killer job!

  • Very nice work...you even did some Anderson facial expressions...

  • Thanks...but if I DID any Anderson expressions they were not premeditated. I think the music just pulls them out of ya. LOL.

  • Haha - maybe you're right!...still, I think that your facial appearance has some similarities to Anderson's face...

  • love it

  • thumbs up man.

  • great cover of a great song

  • damn near...in the year...(strum d# make crazy face)..0ne! LMAO what a great intro...

  • that is surprisingly an extremely difficult vocal to pull off. ian (and you) makes it seem pretty easy.

  • I could hear that ice cracking behind me as I skated down the creek!

  • that's really amazing buddy, enjoyed it alot! you're the only one i know who even could play Family/chappo, LOL! ;o)

  • Hi mate, really near to the original, thanks for sharing!!

  • thats awsome, well executed man. best jethro tull song

  • Well done Pops ! I wish I was able to do that. Beautiful song !

  • Man, that was great! love the sence of humor too! The guitars tone sounds awesome also.

  • This is a great likeness of a great work +++

  • Wow...what a great job, dude!

    Really amazing!

Ian would be proud of you, for sure.

    Keep on rockin'!

  • Excellent cover. Nice one!

  • I did not realize How much I love this song until I heard you play it. Thank you.

  • Too much echo...otherwise not bad...

  • Great job!

  • Sounds great. Also, I'm gonna have to buy a capo, watch your vid again and see if I can try to play that one myself. One of my favorite Tull tunes for sure.

  • excellent my friend

  • amazing and touching performance, you really got what Anderson was trying to say.........thank you !!

  • im 18 been listening to tull since i was little lad and have to say this is a good cover!!

  • Thanks from Brazil. You are a hero..... Wonderfulllll

  • Fantastic!!

i have been trying to figure out this song for the last month with little to no succes, but in the last 4 minutes you've tought me so much!

    thank you!!

  • Excelent!

You really captured the essence of Ian's showmanship. That C to G transition at the end of the chorus can be tricky while singing, and you nailed it.

  • I have a comment Sir. Outstanding. I have been viewing your videos for the past few months, learned a lot and am very grateful for your efforts. I'm stealing stuff from you left and right and as a result am a far better player. Please continue. This particular vid - Skating Away is scary good.

  • Hi Glenn. You just keep on stealin' from me all you want. If it helps you, that is perfectly fine by me...that is one of the reasons I post here on youtube. :D I am thrilled you have been able to pick some things up from my playing.

    LC

  • Good, thanks! Greetings from Hungary

  • Great job man. Keep up the good work..

  • GREAT!Hello! from TOKYO! I like your playing and your singing!

  • Skating has always been one of my very top fav song of the Tull.

    So ... great job ! ;-)

  • Absolutely wonderful, thank you

  • I like the sound of that guitar Hamer. What is the make and model?

  • Pretty amazing sound, huh? That is a Ventura VJ-2 NAT. Bought it new a couple of years ago for $250, including hardshell case. When I first took it off of the hook to play it I could not believe the sound I was hearing from a cheap imported guitar. I just had to take it home. It has a 3-band eq in the electronics package, but it doesn't sound nearly as nice plugged in as it does acoustically. I think the elecronics are the worst I've ever heard...but the guitar is awesome for the price.

  • Amazing job covering this song !

  • thanks hammer, that really helped me out with a couple of those weird cords.. Good job!

  • great! almoust better than the original! greatings!!!

  • this reminds of me a nhl player called brendan mikkelson

  • lollllllll very good

  • great job dude, its wonderful song. especially the wah wah ending!

  • Wow. This is exactly the reason I want to learn to play. In my opinion, Ian Anderson's vocals can't be improved upon, but, shockingly, I like the guitar play better in this vid than in the original! Very well done, sir.

  • man you are the best!!!!

  • Dude! Where's your next gig?

  • Really nice job! Ian Anderson has quite a unique style and delicious voice, but you did this song justice. I'm also a great fan of Tull.

  • Thanks. Enjoyed it.

  • You aren't Ian, but you do a damn good cover.

  • When I first heard the echo while you were talking I was thinking this could be cheesy, but it works perfect for the Tull style. Beautiful Job my friend!

  • wow

  • Better than the Tull version! A real treat to here you play this classic.

  • Great Version!!!

  • Very cool man.

  • Very nice! I like the way you got IA's "Live Bursting Out" thing goin on!

And like mot YouTube musician's, I appreciate you keeping your fret hand in view.

  • That song brings..back allot of beautiful memorys......of a better vanished time...... that we use to live in.......remember? Wonderful job sir! Russell in Baton Rouge.

  • GREAT! Greetings from Tokyo!

  • Awesome. Really great.

  • hey larry,

why don't you do this one with the band. it would come out great i bet!!!

I'm sure you know another great one:

    Fairport Convention - 1969 - Liege & Lief

And from Jethro Tull one of my favourite:

Benefit- Alive Well And Living In

    Bye

  • Very good job! I know, that the guitar work aren't very difficult, but that voice is very "Ian Anderson Like" ;)

    Very good man ! Thanks!

  • Thanks for that. I'm finally getting around to trying Ian Anderson's guitar stuff, and vid's from people like you are very helpful

  • Nice job, mate!

  • You made me laugh/cry...Beautiful...just...You know something?Yes you do know something , and then some.

  • Man ...great stuff

  • your jethro tull is exceptional. much respect

  • Fantastic! What a great job on the guitar. The voice is cool too.

  • Amazing, I love watching all of your videos. I've probably watched this video 15 or more times. You should do One Brown Mouse I'd really enjoy that.

  • You are great. And you seem like an very nice person. That's what I love about Tull, its followers are usually nice people

  • What mistakes?!

  • dude you are awsome.love this one too

  • You are amazing! Ian Anderson would be very proud of this wonderful cover I'm sure!

  • A treble clef is where melody notes go on sheet music (the bass clef is below it with the bass notes which are usually those notes which are below middle-C)...LOL. But troubleclef is my youtube guitar-playing buddy (go to the beginning of the comments and see the second comment on this video). :D Thank you for your very kind comment. LC

  • Most everything I play I've learned by ear...and this one I learned by ear and by watching Ian perform it in concert. :D

  • FANTASTIC! Love watching your fingers play. I keep trying but you really have a talent. Keep going.

  • Really sweet !

    You sing very well

    good good
