I only remember Neil Bonnett's name because he won the inaugural NASCAR race at Calder Thunderdome outside Melbourne (Vic. AUS) in (I think) 1989. I didn't even know he'd been killed.

he all most die in a crash 1990 and retired from racing and did some TV, he had his own show but could not let it go of racing, Cleared to race in 93 Childress gave him a ride for the 1993 DieHard 500. first practice for the 1994 Daytona 500, a right front tire failure in the track's fourth turn. Bonnett's car hit the outside wall nearly head-on. Bonnett was taken to nearby Halifax Medical Center, but he had died on impact of a Basilar skull fracture god bless you Neil

Always loved watching Neil Bonnett race. Hw was a skilled driver who wasn't sqirrely behind the wheel. Infact he was told not to race by his Dr. after a near fatal crash a few years earlier...but he had to get back in the car..God Bless Ya Bonnie!
