You better stop riding in cars if that's how you feel. Every one of those splatter marks on the windshield was the life of an insect snuffed out. As for me, I shall happily continue to use silk... and a squeegee for my windshield.
@cihge I'm scared of them...I think some of them fly & I wouldn't want it to fly at me. I would cry if it did, & I wouldn't want them around me. But you make a convincing point so I'll leave them some food on the outside stairs or something.
@juanmora19910209 *facepalm* You really don't know anything about anything, do you? Cockroaches don't fly.
And if you're so troubled by animal cruelty you might as well kill yourself to provide more oxygen for animals (and even some food for those poor mistreated graveyard worms).
@cihge That makes no sense...If I don't think something should be killed for me to live why would I think it's ok the other way around.... & I'm pretty sure some of those bad boys fly....INTO YOUR EYE! ...not mine..just yours.
Actually, they boil the cocoons to kill the worms, as while they are still alive, the worms can leak out of the cocoons, and they are attached to the silk.
yea easy the balls are silkworms babies and they are still alive so they cook it in hot boiling water to get the silk then they grab a bit and put it on the machine

Very cool video, I'm so happy to see how they make them. Even if it is a bit of a sad fate for the worms.

Thanks for posting. I don't buy or use silk for moral reasons but it was good to see the mechanics of a leading industry in another country.

animal cruilty!
lol, well at least they eat them :)
(though I rather ot eat them :(
It would be cool to manufature silk on my own for my own home made clothes.. but I would feel bad for the larvea..)

There are such things as "Wild Silks"
Considered more humane
one method I know of is to just collect the silk from the cocoon after the Moth is already out...
which means you don't get 1 continuous strand (Because they tear it when they emerge)
but its still silk :)
Cheers

So, by boiling the worms, they...get silk out of them?? how does that occur?
TFWC88 3 years ago
Juz a random guess - The mother of the babies use silk to their children - Silk worms . JUST A RANDOM GUESS , Might be wrong :P Bleah
BlueDattebayo 3 years ago
..No.
They raise the silkworms until they are full grown and they turn themselves into a cocoon (the white balls).
Then they are boiled in hot water to get the silk softer.
Then they remove silk worm from the silk..
Basically.. the cocoon is silk.

Cool thanks for the info, i thought they were eggs/babies TT
