you accually should not use a zigzag motion if you file your nails.. just stay in the same direction because your nails can get weaker if you ue a zigzag motion. just saying ;)
@PeeEsPee Also you should file/shape your nails BEFORE you soak them, because your nails will absorb water, making them softer, and makes the possibility for breakage much higher. BEFORE applying the base coat, use nail polish remover to dehydrate your nails, so the base coat really adheres well to the nails. :)
I agree with you 200%. I received a fungal infection that took one year and several trips to the doctor to cure. I have been doing my feet since that incident. I save money, time and no risk of infection.
Couldn't fit this in the last post but a tip I learned from someone is to use cotton pads and a lil bit of rubbing alcohol and wipe the nail instead of washing the hands. I also use a Hydrator as a base (Sephora by OPI) which is great either by itself or with a nail color. Great vids, keep them coming. It's great to see tutorials and product reviews for women of color by a woman of color.
I, too, do my own manicures and pedicures almost 2 yrs ago after seeing how the salon I was going to cleaned their tools and basins (NOT sanitary!). I've always wanted to try the crystal file so I'll look into that and the Burt's Bees cuticle cream is a MUST! I use Carol's Daughters Cuticle Oil. It's good but Burt's would be easier ( and less accident-prone) to carry in my purse.

no need to buy all these stuff.. go to k-mart...there u will find a kit for menicure.. worth 1.99 $... and vaseline is there in all homes.. ok . then.. happy menicure............
omg! i totally love this video!! i always pay crazy prices for salon manicures. i still love going there, but now i dont have to fork out the big bucks as often because i do this as a mantinance thing. thanks!! (:
Thank you, I would so rather do this by myself than fork out some bucks and my dignity, while having my nail tech talk about me or not to me at all in a whole 'nother language. GAWD so rude and unprofessional sometimes.
Glad you agree! Some poor women have had that bad service for years and don't know it shouldn't be bad. They just think, 'That's the way it is I guess.'
Please could you give me some tips for totally jacked up nail cuticles like mine but I can't cut them cos' I haven't got a nipper but I've got all the creams and stuff.
you can use nail clippers if you're really careful. and sometimes you can use your fingernail to scratch it off but that's only if you put a cream on it beforehand.
I usually polish my nails every day but if I am too lazy to do that I am sure to use a good base/top coat and I can get a good 3-day wear out of them on average.
I will love if u can list products to use on the feet. I hate paying money to get them done when i do it my self 2 weeks later my feet looks dry as hell.
I am soooo obsessed with doing my feet too. I pretty much use the same products on my fingernails, on my toenails. For my feet I use a Mr. Pumice bar EVERY NIGHT in the shower. I will also follow up with Vaseline on the feet and some socks. Try it!
That cuticle creme is the truth!! Using that on your cuticles once or twice a day will dramatically increase the condition of your cuticles. You can do it, mama!
Thanks for this vid, ur a doll for this!! Great advice too! I just subscribed.

another tip:
You know when your nails get kindda yellow from nail polish?
add slices of lemon to the water you soak your fingers in and
that will remove the stains
rachl8400 1 year ago 7
@rachl8400 I've heard of that but haven't tried yet!
DivineBlackness 1 year ago
You shouldn't really ever trip off your cuticles... If you get rid of too much, it can come back worse. It's best to just push them back :)

Yep, the alcohol works too but I find that it dries my nails out a bit. I'm going to have to try that Hydrator. Thanks for the rec and support!

Some nail salons are SO unsanitary. A crystal nail file will change your life. :)

i'm just wondering if i can use petroleum jelly (vaseline) as a cuticle cream? i've ran out of cuticle cream.
Foofiemoofieface 2 years ago
Ummm, I would go with lotion. It's a bit more moisturizing than vaseline.
DivineBlackness 2 years ago
oh ok.. that's really good to know. Thanks for your reply and awesome video.. keep the good stuff coming =)
Foofiemoofieface 2 years ago
Some people have thicker cuticles than others. Pushing them down is okay. Cutting them off is not.
