@DJKAYZEE look at the history of jazz, it is most certainly a genre. it was not made for marketing it was played by jazz musicians after they decided they liked its beat. remember it would have been played often in new orleans due to its close proximity to countries like cuba. nowadays it may be more of a marketing scheme but its roots in latin culture is not and furthermore its stance as a category of jazz definitely is not.
