the reason why it might catch on fire might be if there might be some water left from the food you put in, if the oil is to warm it will catch on fire if it touches water
Mine's not that loud either (though it's not quiet). Just keep an eye on it, because as much as I love mine, I have heard a few people have theirs catch fire (!) on them!
