This is a bad guide for the recon. As a recon you're supposed to be behind your team and spot (with Q, back, select) your targets so your teammates can take them out. Of course you kill people but always spot before shot. Remember you're a recon and NOT a SNIPER. Sniping is about killing, Recon is way more.

To say that accuracy is the main part for ANY recon is a bit much. BF3 isn't a game based on KD, it's about how you support the team. Even if all you do is spot, but you're a damn good spotter getting 1700 a game, that's enough.

I don't wanna say you're wrong when you say it's more about quickscoping than actually being a recon but... comparing this to actual "sniping" (aka hardscoping for COD "cool guys lolol") is like comparing a car to a plane. ;P Sniper is about the gun, not the guy. ;P

The closer you could get to a "Sniper" guide would be about standing at one or two spots in the entire game(round) and trying to spot everything and not get killed once. Kills not required.

Many people don't know this but you can take the optics off from the rifle. So you can have iron sights instead of high-powered zoom optics. Helps for close range situations(if you've got the aim).

Of course you could just always use slugs on the shotguns but hey, M98OB iron sights anyone?

The biggest mistake people make, is thinking that the last class is Sniper. It's actually Recon. You are more a scout/support player than anything else. When I play, I get either a spot (or kill) on 90% of the enemies that die in the match. When my team i attacking objectives, I move to a position to spot any enemies going towards them, so they know exactly where the players are coming from. I'm constantly throwing my motion sensors for others to get the kills.

@myrecks It depends on how close you are. M24 is brutal close range with 4x scope. If you're a good aim (first shot) you'll get kills everytime. Marking enemies and mortar strikes give heaps of points too, but i'm afraid, on average, recon will earn less than engineer per game. It's inevitable

There are lots of ways for snipers to get xp. Targeting a point and it being captured gears u exp. so does requesting amo health or whatever. So does using ur little robot to spot people. So does spotting. So does killing. So does motion sensor.

+ Semi auto sniper rifles have way more recoil and bullet drop ( not only the semis also the bolt actions) which makes shooting accurate very hard, you also have to shoot 2 or 3 times in the head with a semi now and around 4-5 to the body. F**** gay

They nerfed snipers ALOT in the actual game, you have to make a headshot otherwise it wont be a kill and because of the gay ass sway u just cant make a headshot at a running person unless ur lucky, Also: medics and supports and engineers all have an objective to get more points like throwing health packs ammo crates or destroying vehicles But the recon class only can get points from killing people . They should gave extra points for spotting as a recon cuz u just cant get points

going recon doesn't always mean being a sniper.. recon is more of a stealth class, special ops. you can use a silenced assault rifle/carbine/PDW and sneak up behind the enemy and destroy their defensive lines from within... it's great especially if your whole squad is recon and you play like a true squad.

Recon Golden rules:

1. Spot

2. Spot as many people as possible from cover at long range, take 2 or 3 shots then MOVE. Your position is compromised.

3. Flank wide around the enemy to make yourself a suitable spawn point and using your radio beacon.

BUT what ever you do don't just take pot shots from the back of the map! Always have eyes on the objective and communicate to your squad. U are the eyes of the battlefield.

@JP8940 Sounds epic and is absolutely true. The problem i have with the recon class though is that you just dont get as many points as the other classes. Engineers can repair, assaults can heal and supports can give ammo to constantly gain points. Plus: you have to practice A LOT be effective at sniping.

@Charge183IF The majority of the time I always get top points.... Recon class is all I ever use and I'm beast with it. You just have to know how to be efficient with it. I could get like 5 kills but end up being top 5 on the scoreboard because I like to support my teammates

@Gropes69 Sniper rifles are not viable at close range, which is what I said. Of course, you can take a shotgun or smg loadout if you want to be effective at close range, but you can do that with any other class as well. That would mean giving up on your sniper rifle though.

@TheTarionBesbald I agree that a shotgun or smg loadout would be effective at close range, but what I'm saying is that if you put a red dot or holographic sight on a semi-auto sniper rifle it can be effective at close-mid range because first of all the shots do much more damage than assault rifles and if you aim for the head the recoil resets much better than an assault rifle. Go to my channel and watch the vid which pops up at about 7:30 to the end of the match to see what I'm talking about.
