Great videos for us Newbies, Can you please tell me which topo map I need to put into my Garmain 60csx and where to buy it, I want it for hiking like you explained on your Electronic bread Crumb video,, Thanks, pete
@sasktank LOL - a holler is a large ravine or valley that will make walking in a wooded area difficult. Many times they have a stream or two running through them as well.
@geomodelrailroader Happened to a friend of mine the other day. Went a couple of miles bushwaching in a dense woods and on the way back found a huge swamp area he did not notice coming in. Knew where the car was but had a heck of a time getting back to the right path to get there.
@dumbo354 I may do just that. Currently a fellow geocacher of mine is doing an extensive comparison as we speak and I will post it on my blog when he does.
@krZabii I think that is one of the more common scenarios geocachers go these days. Smart phone and a GPSr backup. It's not the end all beat all but for me anyways its the most convenient.
I'm torn too. Right now I can get the 60csx for 199.99, but I really like the paperless caching on the delorme. Though, I have an iphone with the geocache app. So I don't know if I should get the delorme so I can have it all loaded on one device or get the 60csx since it's on sale. hhmm...
@neolightproductions I like both GPSr units myself. I use my Geocache Navigator app on my blackberry most of the time. The 60CSx is a great unit and is used when I am going into wet or more difficult terrains.
@headhardhat I ended up going to PN-40 route. Love it. Though, it has already broke. I don't blame Delorme however just yet. I think it might be the way walmart shipped it to me. I did site to store and they had the normal package in their huge box with hardly any padding around it. I think with all the bouncing around it even chipped two buttons. I contacted Delorme and they said to send it in. First it would lock up on my every once in a while... then it just quit and wouldn't power back on.
@lennyer Thanks for watching.. Did you know that 95% of the videos we make come from our viewers suggestions.. If you have any, please pass them along and we will add it to our ever growing list ;)
Great video! Thanks so much! I'm new to geocaching...was really torn between the 60CSx and the PN-40 but went with the PN-40 because of the paperless feature. This was VERY informative. Thanks so much!
Thank ya Thank ya. It's a toughie because the Garmins are really work horses. The Delorme over the next year if they work on a couple of issues will give Garmin a run for their money. The high end Garmins have some issues they are working out as well. If I was forking out $400 dollars or so I would still stick with the Garmin but again in another year...-HHH
That is one of many reasons I love geocaching so much is to see the local wildlife. They were amazing as you watched them calling to each other. Any interesting critters from your neck of the woods? -HHH
Right on, the wildlife/nature is certainly one of my top loves in general and geocaching just opens the door to explore and see beautiful things. A seasoned cacher just got me into it last month and I'm hooked! I went out biking solo last SaturDAY and night for my second time out. Great time. Riding back on an unlit paved trail (i'm not the brightest :-)) I scared deer off of it 4 times for a total of 5 deer. I'm thinking headlamp soon! I'm in Virginia right now but from New England, Mass.
I found your video looking for info/reviews on the Delorme pn-40. I think I'm gonna get one in a couple days. I've been reviewing which to get and the Delorme seems to be a good friend for me to have for many reasons plus the thing is smokin hot. I notice that not many people have them but that's expected from people being loyal to others like Garmin and are satisfied enough to not look at others. What is your personal opinion on the "serious tool" lol?
When it comes to geocachers I would actually call it a serious tool. The only issue with the Delorme is the screen lighting. It tends to be too dark for many people. I find the actual functionality to be really top rate. -HHH
I've compared the Garmin 60csx, Garmine Colorado 400t and the Delorme PN-40 during a geocache meeting. The Delorme PN-40 impressed me enough to buy two. One for me and one for my mom. I am forever in love with the Delorme.
I do like the PN-40 as being a really nice higher end GPS. There is a very big coke/pepsi rivalry between delorme and garmin. All part of the fun to keep costs down and functionality up.. Nice talking with you.
Thanks for the kind words.. We just put out a new video a week or so ago... Ya know I just realized that we have actually put out around 50 videos in less than a year. That is almost two full seasons already.. W00t, how time flies when you are having fun. - HHH
Thar be pirates here... But if you want a nice FREE topo alternative go to my blog called Geocache: I'm Not Obsessed.... Right? Just Google headhardhat blog to find it. There is a section on the right that has the link to my post. Free be almost as good as an undead monkey, yar. -HHH
Thanks for your suggestion. I actually have a bunch of videos we made earlier in the year where we went to several multi geocaches on the same day. In fact one of them was a 5/5. We never used it and it has been sitting in the vault. Maybe we can do as you say and show how to create a multi geocache. Thanks so much!
Yeah we have zero budget but it was necessary if we wanted to produce a quality product so I scraped up enough for a new digital recorder. We wouldn't have been able to zoom up to the owl with the older one. It was just a plain camera that happened to do video. We do the best with what we have... Thanks for noticing. -HHH
Thanks Mich5481. We do aim to please. This GeoSnippits came from a fellow viewer's suggestion which are the ones we love to do the most. Thanks for watching. -HHH

good tip Head Hard Hat sometimes I get lost and don't mark my recovery points. I will do that in the future to prevent getting lost.

@headhardhat LOL you travel by GPS you get lost by GPS. thats why I look for land marks and I will mark my way back in the future.

you should make a video comparing gps...and saying which ones are good for geocaching and
what ones aren't

So I'm torn between the Delorme and Garmin, great to see a side-by-side demo. So in your opinion, if you had to choose just one, which would it be?
Keep those videos coming!

HHH, maybe you can make an issue how to place a multicache incl. the creation of the listing.
i think a lot of beginners think its very difficult. keep the good work.
