You don't have to go to the other tree to get onto the big tree. Once you have the rocket nozzle, you can rocket up to a mushroom platform on the left side of the tree(assuming you are facing towards the tree), then rocket onto the top. It's tricky, but it's possible. Heck, I've done it with only the hover nozzle. Mario can basically "ride" the side of the tree while hovering, making him move up its side very quickly.

If you go back and forth between Delfino Plaza and the Air strip you can get 999 coins but it takes a long time. It doesn't affect gameplay when you get 999 coins. Mario holding the shine backwords was interesting. That was awsome rocket right into the pipe and you got that on cammera to. lol At Mario's piss freezing as the Shine appears.
