Okay so a lot of people have been wondering about the screen on the controller. Here's my theory. Since it's supposed to be a very Social connected console, maybe it's to message people (on-screen keyboard) or tweet/status update something. I know it will also be a miniature television (confirmed IGN). Hopefully Nintendo doesn't go too over the top with it.

@GoldenBoy5430 Rumors state this. It can be used as your own screen for split screen multiplayer gameplay. Used as a HUD/map/radar/item screen to have easy access to maps/items and clean up the display to show health and such. Also stated is that if your friend is online, it may stream their gameplay, and allow you the option to jump into the middle of their game. Example.. They are playing Mario kart, you own it, fire it up and jump into the middle of the race, or the next race etc.

@garvensman They may only be rumors - but I think they will more than likely be true. Nintendo has stated things such as "it will be cost effective". Therefore, they mustn't be overly expensive. So, for the select few that are expecting something revolutionary... I'm thinking they're going to be let down a fair bit.

@SunStridar The way I see it, having the console let you view what your friend is doing online, and jump in on a game they are playing isn't a huge step. We can already get alerts and such (facebook/twitter) when our friends are playing a game online. Seeing their feed is new, but that's a matter of the connection, not so much the hardware. It requires a specific server capability, not so much the console capability. The hardware is rumored to be $350-$399 which is a solid price.

@SunStridar Think of it this way. Your computer can watch streaming content. But you need a flash plug in to do so. The Wii can stream video. In order to be able to stream a friend's feed, the online servers would need a "flash plug in" of sorts, to allow the machine to tap into the feed. Either way, I think this new console is going to be really cool. I'm glad to see you and others are excited as well. I wish it was the 6th right about now.

However, from what I've read (and I've every bit of new information to this point in time) it seem the screen will be similar to that of the touch screen on the DS. It will serve as a touch screen functionality first and foremost - i.e. such as organizing items in your inventory, if your playing an RPG. And all of your health bars and such will no longer clog up your television screen.

I know, but it was the first console to use proper CD's, as in play them for music as well. Saturn could play CD's, but not music, same as Wii can play DVD's, but not movies. Also PS1 was the console that made them a viable format for the console market. Nintendo wanted to stick with cartridges, the saturn failed... PS1 was the first CD medium console to be a success, Sony deserves that credit.
