  • He looks like a character off of Sesame Street but plays so well!!!!

  • I play a mean triangle... But this is pretty good as well.

  • Im able to play most of this song (even though im 13), but I dont think that I will ever be this good.

  • @lukaa80 well, he is good, but shouldn't be your mentor yet, he has a lot to learn as well, though he's really awesome to be able to play it at this age, and don't be discouraged when you see someone a lot better than you, take things little by little, good luck!

  • wow, you're so amazing. keep doing this, for me it was too late to start playing oboe :(

though i really like oboe so much

  • Wow... I play oboe, too, but in my age (15) I can't play with so an amazing sound! great job ! respect... :)

  • His tone sounds like a duck.

  • Fuck mini baby bell

  • :) cute sound anyway, great job!!!!!

  • keep doing what your are doing. I like this performance very much.

  • You're amazing. Keep playing! Double reeds ftw!!!!!

  • Muito bom. Parabéns

  • Very nice!!

  • i wish i could play like that. while i do play oboe that way better than i do, and his tone is gorgeous! i didn't know that oboes could sound like that.

  • Amazing job man!!

  • Lee, you are amazing. Good performance. I want to see you play with an orchestra.

  • isn't that bad :D but actually I can't see the pink scene like the guy on Nodame that guy was great, anyway good job :D

  • its soooo PINK ♥

  • OMG i didnt realize I was listening to a 15yo I was just listening to it because it was so beautiful.

  • i can see pink XD i love the music..though i dont know how to play any instruments =)

  • うまいです!!!かんどーTーT

  • He doesn't play music, only notes.. That's the problem when you try to polay Mozart at 15..

  • @canardouf He has an incredible tone for a 15 year old. I'd say he has a lot more than notes.

  • other then the tone control of c2 is not consistent, other was perfect for a 15 years old kid

  • the tone was not good

  • that. was. amazing!

  • the 12 people doesn't know real oboe music!!! :(

  • Nice oboe playing.

  • amazing lovely sound - i can tell he loves playing. keep it up!

  • wheres pinkness? (nodame reference)

  • I thought the guy who's playing piano is lang lang....

  • oh! my soul is filled entirely by listening to this genius.

  • Amazing! At the age of 15 no one should be able to play this piece, not to mention he has it completely memorized! Sure a note or two was missed, but it still sounded absolutely divine! Quite honestly I don't understand people's issue with his sound, it sounds just right to me.

  • @Xternium i've seen 15 year olds play it... -_-

i learned to play the exposition by ear and im 13...

this was one of the most emotionless performances i've seen.

but again he's only 15... i thought the technique was pretty good.

  • @jason07605 your just saying that because hes asian... in what way? thats was profesional standard great job

  • @Xternium he could play this piece if he started studies on it when he was around nine, but to memorize the hole thing is very hard for some one to do.

  • @Xternium He's Asian!

  • Hello, im an oboist from São Paulo - Brazil. I dont have much experience cuz i have played just since 2008, but i can say that i really liked this performance, the kid has originality and his music has so much life and for a 15 yo guy he is on the right way. But, i really dindt like the sound --'... in my personal opinion this is the first thing he has to improve, there is no point in playing very well, with good technique, if the sound is not good... but anyway he is really good for his age ;D

  • you all talk shit, this kid is awsome, and plays with the heart, thats what count, why people always comment to show off what they know, then the best way to show what you know is with a video response, losers

  • Gamerbee!!

  • Theothercanadian: Why would I take offense?I am not his teacher or himself? I just simply told you the fact he's usually American scrape reeds. He sounds reedy or not does not affect the fact he's using American scrape reeds. I did not comment his good or not, but in his age it's good, did you write your own cadenza in this age? If not, why some people are very harsh to comment orientals.

  • Theothercanadia: His first teacher graduated from Mannes, a student of John Ferrillo and his second teacher graduated from Oberlin, a student of James Caldwell. Maybe he put too much reed in his mouth but does not change the fact.

  • @Hautbois01 well there are many different types of reeds used in north america, but in general he should be playing on the heart, NEVER at the binding.

dont take offense here, but his playing shows his age, yet he is great for a 15 year old. he may have the technical skills, but he lacks the musicianship, which comes with experience.

missed notes, they happen. even nicholas daniel missed a few in his recording.

GRR HE STOLE JOHN MACK'S CADENZA!!!

  • Minuvera: He's playing American style reed.

  • @Hautbois01 in my opinion you should be able to tell because of the amount of reed he has in his mouth to tell, the sound is too reedy.

  • The oboists show recording here don't have to be all that good. The professional oboists are not here for "free". I guess we, adults must know the truth. Constructive comments will help. For the most mean comment down there said he missed many notes. He obviously is narrow mind. If this is a Boosey and Hawkes version, he did not miss a lot of notes. If it's a Bareneiter version then the notes of course would be different, it's edited under different editors. I encourage him to play abit slower.

  • Nobody hate on him, oboe is hard and i thought he did really well. I'm learning how to play this and I think he sounds great :)

  • Style... be carefull..

  • VERY GOOD!

    considering he's a 15 year old! I think he did good :)

Now there is A LOT that's bad but again he's 15 so lets see any of you do this!

  • REALLY A REAL PERFORMANCE~ um...not doing MUSIC

  • Nice oboe playing for a teenage boy.

    His tone is encouraging.

  • OMG, that is the wrost preformance that i ever heard ... lol lol . VEry very light reed.

fingers are not good ... the air and the way he blow is also bad .There are many missing notes,

syncronisation between both of them is ... smooth :S

Also the piano part is really no comment- 14 old kid will play better

    just just ... no comment

actually is not sooo bad for 15y. old but it can be much better.

    I like the cadenz :)

  • @Mpaka if you have no comment, well, than I have an idea.

    Shut up.

I play the oboe myself and I'm also 15 years old (turning 16 in 2 months) and I've been playing the oboe since I was 8. Yes, he has some things he can improve, but for a 15 year old this was good. It doesn't fit your age when you are a really amazing oboe player at 15, so don't judge him as an adult, would you?

  • @xNewspaper Sure i can judge him, i have also started at 10 so i have idea what about what talk :)

  • @Mpaka read what I say. You can judge him, but not as an adult. I may be 15 but I know what I'm talking about too.

  • @xNewspaper Ok little kind :) I still have my old records and i know how good i was(also other childs that have played also oboe at this age).So this video is poor for me!

  • @Mpaka Little kid? Please, don't show off -_-' "omg, I was so good." If you was really that good (as you say), maybe you could show some respect for him and encourage him.

And by the way, why don't you put some of your cool superwonderoboekid video's on youtube?

  • @xNewspaper Because YT is full with haters :) like me for example hahahahaha .

    (r.i.) Peace \/

  • @Mpaka I can see you're a hater.

  • @Mpaka Actually he is doing quite amazing for his age. Also, the oboe is one of those instruments where tone quality is quite different depending on region and what kind of scrape you use to get that tone. In the US they use the american scrape to get a really dark full centered tone. In Europe they use a lighter scrape to get sweeter sound out of the reed. Asia also tends to lead towards a sweeter sound. If you noticed, he is a student in Hong Kong.

  • very sloppy to be honest...

  • I saw your performance in Toronto a few months ago, I was the oboist who Dr. Yip introduced to you.

Nice performance, and it's nice to see you again. :)

  • nth special...

    -.-

    kindly messy

  • 好強= =

  • 勁

  • Comment removed

  • Very good effort... he will definitely improve with age. His cadenza really shows off his talent - he truly has some good technique. In a few years he should sound amazing as well.

  • pinch oboe sound

  • Perfect performance.

  • He was 15, double thumbs up!

  • wow, that's amazing.
