  • Strange. On Belgium television in tomtesterom, they asked him 83^50. Also powers of 83 here. Coincidence?

  • @Cinqmil yeah i was thinking the same

  • Boarder line sexual experience ahahahahahahaha

  • 240p... we meet again...

  • @Phallo8888 hahahahaha

  • @Phallo8888 lmao

  • i can do better asuhauhsuahsu

  • His story is really inspirational! I suggest you look it up! He used to really suck at basic math..

  • @INMATE2468

yeah.Everytime I see brain masters like this close their eyes I don't feel bad when I feel the need to also while I ponder on things

  • Look at his face at 0:22-0:26... Looks like BS to me. :)

  • who is the narrator ? and i dont think this is mike rowe ...

  • @Ascaron50 NO IT IS NOT,GOOD SIR. I have no idea who.

  • @zolo109 narrator is calledrichard lintern never heard of him never seen him i saw the name in the cast after the series how the universe works...

  • To think this guy use to fail at basic math :0

  • @HirachieOfSociety but then again maths is much more than arithmetic

  • With all respect for everyone who is involved, the scientists with their controlled conditions are experts in the field of brains or memories or whatsoever, they are by far no experts in mental calculation and therefore their experiments and what they do furthermore for me is not very meaningful.

    Willem Bouman

  • I quote "It is a feat of memory". Indeed, although immensely impressive, it is memorisation and not calculation. The problem is that the "average" people do not see the difference between memorisation and mental calculation, the only thing they see is a quickly given answer.

    Regards, Willem Bouman

  • @hoofdsein1

he didnt know that 83 would be the number before the show started.

so this is not memorization, unless you assume that he memorized all the calculation results of 2-digit numbers from 10 to 99. i dont think so. also, he does other things where its even more clear that he could not have possibly memorized it beforehand, like the mental calculation competitions which are heavily monitored as well as tests done by scientists under controlled conditions.

  • @hoofdsein1

for example: division of a 3 to 4-digit number by a 2-digit number. or multiplication of two different given 5-digit numbers. and the actual question is unknown to him until he sees it, would you say thats memory or calculation? i think if that really would be memory, it would be even more awesome, that would be more numbers than any human being has ever memorized.

  • @myRealLifeNickname Science maintains an interest because it has certain requirements that need to be met before making any claim that can be taken seriously which is why you have a lot of theories as well as facts. A theory is plausible based on the evidence that supports it and I believe that the odds of setting about to raise three children to become world chess champions and it being successful is decent evidence let alone many other experiments... where's your evidence?

  • Dear Rüdiger,

many congratulations with your 40 yh birthday and all the best!!

    Best regards,

    Willem Bouman

  • @hoofdsein1 do you know he won´t read that comment?

  • maybe he implanted a calculator in his head

  • it is a feat of memory.. HE MEMORiSES most of these.. well it s still impressive.. cool, i

  • @beryes They proved it wasn't memory.

  • Intense.

  • Some ppl with handicaps (often social) is developing other abbilities, they brain is trying to compensate for the less advanced social abbilities by developing some systems further.. but this man dont seem to have any handicap. but his not the best human calculator ever. sorry for bad english...

  • @Mrmushpotatoe That is not the correct explanation. It has to do with a process called "pruning" of the brain. Braincells die off before birth. However, if brain development runs into problems and brain areas die off, others don't undergo pruning which causes a overallocation of brain cells in a particular area. That correlates with unusual abilities depending on where it occurs.

  • @Mrmushpotatoe He is the best human calculator. His brain is on a level where it can actually develop new, very complex algorithms to tasks he's asked to do.

  • ohhhh shit damn

  • Its all practise(10,000 hours of improvement based practise). From chess to sport to maths to music etc.

You cant tell me that all though someone had the idea of giving birth to a girl to nurture her into playing chess that her world wide success and wins against players such as Kasparov was just genes! Let alone her 2 other sisters who had the same nurturing; her youngest sister only to be called the greatest female chess player in the world.

People have learnt to multiply 13 digit numbers.

  • amazing. how can the human calculator use his powers to fight evil villans?

  • @CaptainRupeez he won't help them in thier math homework and he won't help them cheating

  • What a waste of talent!

Instead of being a clown on radio, why not solve the energy crisis instead?

  • @aizen7777777777 Smart comment man, because you can totally solve the energy crisis by doing simple mathematical equations that can be done on a calculator. Holy shit you are stupid.

  • @niceboatLive

No my friend, I am not the stupid one. Watch your own words!

You know nothing about the power that could be awakened in that man's brain.

Go study neuro-science, and then come back and we'll see who is the stupid one.

  • @aizen7777777777

No, this has nothing to do with nuero-science, the techniques he shows here are just from the practising in the field. As even pointed out by another comment (Dolphidood) this is no different to practising chess, a sport or music. Yes he would probably to able to contribute to helping the energy crisis if he applied the same amount of work into that field than this but then again anyone would. Don't act like this is something that no one else has done before.

  • Wow!

  • you could play in a casino using actual skill. that math you know could make you rich

  • just shows u the true power of the brain.. unbelievable

  • @foreverguga: rüdiger lacks creativity... i think he would suck in everything else in life

  • @daimen6 I don't really think that he needs to be good at anything else.

  • JEZUUSS.

  • open his brain....im sure youll find some batteries in there

  • only in german or japan

  • holy crappp !!!! i wanna be you ..

  • Where can I buy a calculator like him?

  • @St33lPro Try Wal-Mart

  • Whats 9 x 7? "63" YES!! Also he was creating algorithms for the solution, when people still try to claim that they don't exist.

  • normaly german brain!

  • Its not memory. Its actual calculations. They did a series of test on him to see if he was just memorizing stuff from books. The tests concluded that he was not memorizing..he was doing the exact calculations in his head. One other piece of evidence to prove this is how fast he was to respond with an answer...you can see such an example at 2:21 and various parts of this video. So he is indeed a human calculator. Leave it up to the Germans when in doubt of math.

  • @halas1 actually to the chinese ;) their are the best calculators .. that's what i heard!

  • For all those who think this is a joke, it isn't. Discovery channel doesn't broadcast jokes and discovery channel isn't the only one that has been making a documantary about him. Also don't say he uses a trick or something what he's doing is extraordinary and you must respect that.

  • @Fangornmmc This in particular isn't a joke, but Discovery channel broadcasts crap and jokes and bad science and sensationalism all the time.

  • a borderline sexual experience??? wdf

  • lol

  • he has good memory.

  • he's using a method that most of you don't know. it's taught in books but no one cares. why should we?

  • 1729 . com/blog/CubeRoots.html

they teach math shortcuts in books and schools. But who really cares. we have calculators.

  • Wowwwww , !

Hahaha I Feel soryy For Mathhh Geekkssss NOW lmfao !!!!

  • Assholes

  • No surprise he developed his abilities after *leaving* school.

  • thats scary... he sounds like a robot when he calculates

  • whats up with his eyes at 0:21

  • @badapple95 he see's the image of the thought that pop up so fast while hes calculating. so he twitch like that.

  • when i heard the HAY LALALLA HAY LALLAA HAY 1:58 i looked out my window and was about to yell shut up to my sis but then i realized it was from this vid ahahha. i feel like a freak.

  • Waaait..... 8x3 (14 seconds later) 22?

  • now this is an 'extraordinary person'. they really should include these kind of mutants or super humans if you will in documentaries. i know that if you look at people with abnormal conditions such as a person with two heads or abnormal ageing, yes that is unfortunant, horrible for them even :-( i can't even begin to imagine how it must be like to live like that. but in that show extraordinary people, that isn't something fascinating, super humans need to be documented on TV shows

  • @invisiblejaguar1 Stan Lee has made a documentary show called Stan Lee's Super Humans. I think it's on the History Channel and it does have this guy on it as well as a bunch of other guys like him. Pretty amazing.

  • hes a machine

  • shit he is makeing my brain hurting!

  • today i saw a report on tv saying that finally he had a test in sidney and he is not an autistic savant; he is just a genius...! snyder asked him to tell which day of the week was the 23th of november...1965 (!) and he gave the right answer! then snyder asked him which 30th november between 1930 and 2030 are thursday... he started with the answers and then he corrected himself because he had not considered leap years... i was just O_O when i saw this...

  • i just saw him again in the science channel !!

he is amazing !! scientists discovered about five more people with amazing abilities!! AWESOME no fake

  • wat

  • yeah for the people that think its fake: 1st) look at the fucking logo. 2nd) it was from a show on nat geo i saw before i saw this clip...

  • this man is absolutly mind blowing just listening to those numbers made my head hurt !

  • ha ha that was a borderline sexual experience

  • Sic

  • cuz hes not english, try say 63 in hungarian in 0.5 secs

  • erm. no... im good thanks

  • @Njutarface he's german

  • @ShookBritt yes? i dont mean that hes hungarian, read my question again

  • @Njutarface i dont understand. they are speaking english. he is german. his home language is german.

  • @ShookBritt ok i will explain, If ur not so familiar with a language, ur not so fast at saying for example Numbers out fast, like he did. thats why i said: try to say 63 in another language ur not so good at. are we clear now? : D

Some haters here said he was Hesitating with that number so i told them this

  • @ShookBritt okay would you spell out 63 for me now please? in german! we'll see how fast you are.

  • @Njutarface isnt he from Germany?

  • this lol

  • im sorry hunny buns =(

  • its not fake u dumb piece of fuckin shit

  • You fucking shit Head thats no fake :P He was 8 Years old and ate a calculator in School :P

  • shoop da woop

  • i wish i was savant for some reason(im autistic but not savant)

  • He had me at "6889".

  • lol im getting freaked out better get ready for nightmares =P

  • I've seen the complete "film" and it was so cool...

  • WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what about kim peek or daniel tammet...are they any match???

  • the radio host looks like Mike Patton..

  • yeah and savants are always liked to autism so ......i think im gonna isolate my kids from the rest of the world and have them love math or something and then maybe they will be geniuses lol :P

  • Marry a Chinese, and you'll have your wish.

  • oooo yeeeesshhh marry a chinnnniiiisssh

  • "As a former mathematician, that was a borderline sexual experience."

    LOL!

  • i had an orgasm :) ooo yeah!!!

  • THAT'S AMAZING :O

  • ohh my god! truly amazing, his ability to calculate at that speed is insane,,i think he not really memorized, but he developed algorithms in his mind, and make an algorithm out of algorithm again and again and calculate extremely fast

  • he wasnt born like that so yeah.......... maybe theres hope for other people

  • hey he studied to gain his knowledge so he wasnt a savant meaning that anyone can do it.........just study your butt of lol :P

  • what was the name of the guy who wanted to live forever in this docummentary?

  • That's incredible!!That's Incredible!!

    That's all what I can say:O

  • mathematical ability or skilled digit memorization? skeptical..

  • JPinLA, you're fucking mentally dumb. How the fuck could you memorize all those numbers in the world. My god they're coming out with these 40000 digit numbers, yet this guy can fucking memorize that? Nobody has the fucking size of memory, even if he did why would he waste his time caculating all the endless numbers in the world?

  • what about kim peek?

    lol J/p

  • Um, I think it'd be even more impressive if he were able to memorize that many numbers. Do you realize that just 83^10 is a 20-digit number? If he were able to calculate every 1- or 2-digit number up to the power of 10, he'd have to memorize about a thousand numbers, all most all of them around 10 digits or more. If he can do likewise with 3- and 4-digit numbers, then we're talking about millionsof possibilities. This could be much more impressive than long multiplication.

  • I meant to write "this WOULD be much more impressive than long multiplication."

  • i wished i was like him

  • omg frak!... xD

  • natürlich en deutscher :D :)^^

  • Incredible. This must be a sexual experience for math geeks.

  • the radio guy says that

  • 9x7 xD

  • this dude...is epic pwnage

and yeah what lopy78 said hez not a savant thing

  • Search for Daniel Tammet, he's a similar math savant that is probably doing the same thing: he visualizes numbers.

  • The problem is that Rudiger isn't a savant, he had a series of tests done on him and he doesn't display the signs of any form of savant syndrome so it's safe to say hes a literal overnight genius.

  • Really? I've seen many documentations about him and I heared everytime "Rüdiger Gamm is a Savant".

  • Daniel Tammet is a loser compared to this guy, he does it so slow.

  • He's awesome i saw this on TV.

Amazing how he FUCKING SUCKED AT MATH until he was 21.

  • maht hasn't much to do with calculating in brain... I'm bad in brain calculating but I got 1 in math...

  • JSF - USA - enough said.

  • Calculating really takes very little computational power, it's just a deficit most humans have. In the near future we should be able to 'hardwire' a slew of computer-like abilities into us, whether it be through cybernetic implants or genetic engineering. As a side note, everyone can do hundreds of millions of trigonometric calculations each second as easily as breathing... stereoscopic vision.

  • ignorant

  • its real

  • He's a superman.

  • I was behind him telling him all the answers

  • simon

  • The term "Human Calculator" is used to refer to the speed in which he solves something. Not the process.

  • Holy shit.

  • whats 9 times 7?? 63... YESSSSSSSSSS!!!

  • this is incredible!

  • 'wish I would be as good as he in calculating

  • rüdiger gamm memorized some thousands of digits of Pi, and he uses that knowledge to calculate dozens of digits of the sinus, cosinus or tangens of given numbers.

that is much more amazing than this multiplication :)

  • sexual experience lol

  • und ich wohn bei ihm inner stadt <3

  • This guy should go in phsysics and solve equetions to solve the truth about the universe!

  • he isnt necessarily good at mathematics, he is just good at calculating. those are different skills.

  • krass tja typisch deutsch halt, xd

    rüdiger ist einfach der beste

  • unbelievable !!
