Miami Vice still has the coolest opening credits and music of any TV show. Nothing has come close. A GQ article on Jan Hammer described the Miami Vice opening as starting with a machine gun like "rat-tat-tat-tat" and finishing with a dark Miami skyline with a "doom like coda".
Too bad today's TV shows don't have this kind of signature because the networks are too busy cramming in more commercials.
