we cant discuss tastes, but i also think that this is BY FAR the best version with the most feelings in it.
@gurumts: Richie was a legend and a great guitarist, but Steve Morse is great too with a different voice from his Guitar, more Rock-Blues sound. It is still Deep Purple for me and lots of others.
@ warmpoop: if this sucks, im curious to know what doesnt for you?
The fact is that this is amazing, solo is amazing, just beautiful music, people stop being stuck on names, sometime just "switch off" that stupid thoughts and enjoy the music!!!!!
P.s. Yiiiyyyy, going to see DP live in approximately 3 months!!! Hope they will perform "When a blind man cries", one of my favorites<333, and even that's good they are with Steve XD, cause they never performed it live with Blackmore.
Yeah, I love Blackmore more than anybody but without Morse there would have been no more Purple and for that we must show Steve much deserved respect. Purple with Morse is much better than no Purple at all !!
muy buena version casi como siempre ... aunque los solos hay solo un tipo que los sabe pulsar con el corazon y es ritchie blackmore sin blackmore no suena igual lamentablemente...
This version is absolutely fantastic, but for me Steve played better on Live at Olympia 1996. The second solo in this song during that night to me is not only one of the best solos of Steve, but probably one of the best guitar solos ever.
One of my favorite versions, I have it on DVD. Such a powerful guitar sound with control like that guitar is another limb on his body. Guitar solo in the middle is so haunting, sends you off into another world.
I had this version of "When a blind man cries" on DVD, and it is by far the most kick ass version I've heard so far. (my ex got the DVD in the divorce....LOL)
as time passes on sounds from artist will change, and guitar players like ritchie will move on but i wish some people would apprisiate what is now then arguing.
morse and verheyen shared the best guitarist crown for 8 years then both gave the up competeing to give someone else a chance(yes there was such a competition run over several days) satriani won it ever since bless him! blackmore took up the lute nuff said

"Simple and unadorned"..exactly...sometimes less is more..that's what makes it so good.
I like Steve Morse but I don't think he belongs on Purple..he's not really a " Rock " guitarist, they tried to get Joe satriani, but he said no for whatever reason, he would have been better for Purple's style of music.
lol wow not a rock guitarist? lol hes in the hall of fame and it says hes rock, you just dont like a smooth real sound of a master of tone, steve morse whrote over 50 albums in his life more then any other artist that i know off... hes my fave!
voted best overall guitarist 5 years in a row. and HGozzer is right, its not the early days
but whats doing to keep rock alive Is "influence" I Want To Play That Sort Of Music From Steve.
Steve Morse is a magnificent musician! A complete and complex guitar player!
Just listen to his solo career band (Steve Morse Band) and The Dixie Dregs, band which he also plays guitar in.
I'm not here to defend only Morse, because I love some Ritchie's songs and solos - some of them legendary and unquestionably significant for the guitar history -, but let's not be unfair and unilateral. =)
Where cand I find it in HD? ps: this exactly version!!! ? thanks

Steve Morse is ok but Ritchie is miles far away.
So I agree:
No Blackmore and Purple are not so Deep

De fato é uma ótima versão!
Mas a versão de 1997 gravada no Olympia, em São Paulo, que a band televisionou na época, pra mim, é imbatível!

Yeah
For sure, the older songs are not the same.
Different musicians in different ages with different experiences and different influences.
The results wouldn't never be the same indeed!
The original version is superb! =)
Although I don't think Ritchie's solo is exquisite. I think it's too simple and unadorned. He could have done more, in my humble opinion.
But it's just a matter of likes.

HGozzer, By Any Chance Do You Know Where I Can Get This DVD?? Or File Cause I Really Want To Watch This In Better Quality..
AceBHD 4 years ago
Well, this video I ripped off from the DVD "Deep Purple - New, Live & Rare Vol. 2".
I purchased it for a pittance here, about $5, whereas it costs $98.25 in the Amazon. com. I think they're kidding... or must be an error...
But, if you want only this video specifically, I can upload it in any share-files site for you.
It has, give or take, 70 MB...
HGozzer 4 years ago
could i have this video file? cause i would love to watch it on my comp when im not online..
AceBHD 4 years ago
Hey,
Sorry for the lateness...
Here is the link...
And for anyone who wants the video too...
rapidshare . com/files/42956964/Deep_Purple_-_When_A_Blind_Man_Cries__live_.mpg . html
(just erase the empty spaces)

Here the link is working...
There're 5 spaces in the link... I think you missed one...
Well...
Two spaces, before and after the dot after the word "rapidshare"...
Two spaces, before and after the dot after the word "mpg"...
And one space between the letters "v" and "e" in the word "live"
I only saw this one now... and I didn't do this... youtube made it for itself =P
I hope it works now... =)
