songs should be judged on their own merits. comparisons are pointless...guess not too many have set in on jams where everybody is doing everybody else's songs...covers are compliments in the music world

define amateur... because ok, if you define it as having techincal skill, then youre right. but they make up for it in songwriting and feeling. thats why its great.. this idea has been played out in every genre in every area.. the clash, nirvana, the mars volta, even something like the beegees. zeppelin kicks ass, but theres plenty of badns that do fine without page's awesome guitar solos or bonhams grooves
