Chevy may never bring back the 454ss, but the Silverado SS has a better chance of making a comeback, if you notice, the SS is not a continous production car, 454 ss were made 90-93, Impalas ss were made 94-96, Trailblazers ss 06-08, and Im sure there will be a SS truck coming out soon.

I have a 1990 SS truck and I wil say one thing...they were suppressed coming from the factory but I did my thing to it..(procomp alum heads, edelbrock performer intake, headers, cam, etc...it can breath now and no ford lightning is a threat to this truck. Coming from the factory it didn't deserve to be called SS but they are still a collector and although mine is not stock its a eyecatcher.

Lightnings were just designed in greater depth, this is basically a factory chev truck with a 3 quarter ton motor in it and a nice grille ... never worked great.

It shouldn't be faster off the line. The limiting factor for the Chevy was the tires. Way too small. The Lightening was a good truck, but Ford did a lot to them. Many parts in the Ford were SVO parts and unique to that truck. The only part on the Chevy that wasn't used on other productions trucks was the speedometer. The engine and transmission were used on 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.

With a little more effort, Chevy could have made the performance match the looks.

i don't want to rain on anyones parade, but these were not fucking race trucks! These trucks were mostly show and a lot of noise. Most of the power you feel driving this truck is just pure torque. Ive seen guys get beat by tuned civics before. The combination of +/- 400ft/lbs, 4,800 redline, and 4:11 rear end just made for a smoke show any time you tried to put your foot in it. Trust me, I know thats fun and it looks cool, but you're just wasting your time..

Looks nice but also looks like someone went to a lot of trouble to get a bunch of decals and trim for the sport then put them on a regular chevy truck. inside it's set up perfectly but it appears that one major tattle tale sign on the outside was missed they all came with the break away mirrors from the factory, and you either had a 454SS or a Sport truck which was the 350

not really. they come close to a tie. read the facts. the truck is a hoss if you rebuild the 454 motor. it comes stock with 210HP and 385 torque.

@Briggsmaster really how much hp? i got a 66 f100 with a 352, those were also underpowered at 172 hp @ 4000 rpm but its really torquey. its all original and the engine has never been rebuiltand it has around 200,000 miles on it and starts right up and runs great, we just drove it around town yesterday and it was like 90 outside, its pretty sweet.

now throw on headers, Vortec heads, cam and a tune and you'll have a quick truck, lots of guys throw on Vortech or Whipple blowers too
