  • From Portugal i say: Nice job.

  • Hey! Great cover!

Have you notes for this song and if you have would you put this notes to somewhere where I can see it?

  • If you don't mind me asking what did that Hagström Super Swede cost you? My god, i really love the tone looks easy to play too, Fantastic smooth playing by the way.

  • in what key is this song? (=?

  • @ltaoklazteck i think its in A major.

  • I think that nobody can appreciate the bassline of this beautiful song 'til seeing this vid.

great job, here i can see the passion of playin' ABBA

  • oh wow ! i never paid any attention to the bassline on this song but now i realize how it glues everything together keeping the groovy going !

    Perfect sound, well done !

  • You left me speechless...just perfect i think

  • Really good cover. Nice feel.

  • Can't hear the bassline too well. But hey, can you do Knowing me knowing you?

    That's a great one!

    Rock on!

  • what macartney has to do with ?

    Rutger is a genius !

  • Beautiful!!!! I mean dead on!

  • Very, very good. You make a complex line look easy :)

Ok, well not that easy but I hope you know what I mean!

  • I don't even need to tell you you're good, but I'm going to anyway. Great stuff, you make a really convoluted brain**** of a bass tab seem effortless. A+

  • Sorry but it s so down your bass

  • Perfect! :)

  • Nice bass videos on your channel. This video has lots of brightness for our study of your 2 hands; others are a bit too dark. Sharp focus, and audio not too loud for backing tracks. Thanks for your uploads!

  • Awsome. You have a great playing style. I like the Hagstrom!!! Play a Rickenbacker 4001c64s with T & I flats myself, and get a lot of advice watching you play!!! Thanks for the great videos.

  • Fantastic! Do you have "Name of the game" too?

  • where did you get invisible a and d strings???

  • masterful technique, turn up the volume on your mic and youre all set to teach

  • Jätte bra du spelar! I love that bass... if you ever get bored with it you can send it to me:-)

  • That's some kick ass bass playing mano! Love it. Just learning bass and want to do this song!!

  • Very good, nice bassplayer. Do you have a site?

Best regards and God bless you.

    Saulo / Brazil South America

  • Very nice! Lovely tone from the Hagstrom.

  • Wow! Masterful job. I just discovered your videos today. Rutgar Gunnarsson has always been one of my favorite bassists and your interpretation of this classic is amazing. I love the sound your bass guitar; warm with a very nice resonance. I've never heard of that brand.

Would you consider doing "Summer Night City"?

  • That bass sounds real low, didn't expect that sound, sounds great!

  • the bass on this song is great and yes it does have this mcCartney-ish touch lol. Good job you play it really well

  • Awesome playing..awesome bass!

  • Nice bass! Love the song. I've got a '75 Hagstrom Swede bass.

  • CANT EVEN HEAR THE BASS!!! LOL!!!

  • @dazzini82 Eh, what video are YOU watching!?

  • great job..ive seen a few others that were missing some notes but this one is almost flawless..great tune..great job

  • Nice playing, nice bass, nice shirt! Btw, have u got any tab for this song? :)

  • Thanks! Sorry, but I don't do tabs.

  • @depeche88

Do a google search for the website "Bassmasta", use that site and you should find the bass-tabs for Dancin queen.

  • The good akg headphones? I keep meaning to to look into these. Lovely playing too. Nailed!

  • Excellent cover of this song, GREAT feel. I was planning on recording one for youtube too, but after seeing your video, no one can top it! You owned it!! Well done mate.

  • Fine job as usual. The look of the bass kind of reminds me of the Ovation Magnum a little bit.

  • A Legend.

  • Rutger Gunnarson is a legend of bass. Great job!

  • Nice!!! Very nice!!!

  • I have the exact same bass :D

  • love the tone...rutger is one of my all time favorite bass players not a million notes just casue he can but just enough to fill the song..as a bass player for many years truly respect your playing man very nice touch and feel thanks fot the clip;)

  • Nice job. I'm not really into Abba but the bassline's very melodic. Kinda Motown meets McCartney. I have a couple Hagstoms myself, very under-rated instruments.

  • better than original bassline! great job.

  • Despite Abba having this stigma attached ie. If you like Abba you *must* be gay, i've never met a single musician who doesn't love their music & arrangements.

    ABBA RULE!

    bassowman.. great job!!

  • FANTASTIC!!!! Very well done Rutger & bassowman!!!

  • Oh man, that line at 1:18 is so good it made me yell out loud!! Fantastic playing, thanks!! Yes, Gunnarsson is at the very top of bass players, and the part he came up with on this song is genius!!

  • bass guitar looks n sounds fantastic, your playing looks effortless n easy but in fact its difficult. good job!!!

  • typical abba bassline subtle, yet almost addictive, thanks for posting these videos i enjoy them and have learned a lot, do you know anymore earth wind & fire songs as your playing to got to get you was great, once again thanks.

  • Man I did not know this song had such a badass bassline. This rules! Good video!

  • Hey man. Came across your channel while searching for the great Rutgar Gunnarson. I'm so enjoying your interpretation of his work. I was thrilled to see ABBA finally recognized this week by the Rock Hall of Fame but disappointed that Benny Andersson did not find time to name Rutgar, Ola Brunkert and the other fine ABBA session musicians who contributed so much to the band's distinctive sound.

  • Bad Ass Groove Man!!

  • One of the best bassist indeed. Its like listening to the real thing. Can you pls play Another One Bites The Dust by The Queen. I love you for this men!!!

  • There is a lot going on in that piece.

  • I couldn't hear the bass on the original: thank you for demonstrating. As you say, it's a good, funky line!

  • That was sweet! Please do "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme" as well. Funky bassline.

  • You, sir, are a musician.

    Just killer stuff.

  • wow, never knew how good the bassline was to this...and a bit tough too, sweet playing, very sweet indeed thanks

  • what tipe of bass do you use? a P bass or a J bass??

    i hope your answer :)

  • It's a Hagstrom SuperSwede bass with J-type PUs.

  • BTW I look a lot like you - we could be brothers.

  • Just wanted you to know that I caught a slight difference, being the nitpicking compulsive perfectionist jerk that I am... On that little walkdown (example: 1:59 ) that comes in-between "see that girl" and "watch that scene," you step down only a half-step (one fret) - but on the ABBA track, he steps down a whole step - two frets (which, by the way, I've always thought was slightly odd, musically). You are very entertaining to watch and I refer people to you.

  • Comment removed

  • The little walkdown at 1:59 is just fine. Rutger G's famous little "mishap" occurs at 3:12 (3:08 on the CD), but... the poster (bassowman) glosses over that detail with a slide. :S

I guess that the original bass track was recorded at an early stage with a harmonically limited backing track, if any, and that Rutger thought that taking a somewhat more "jazzy" way down to the subdominant parallel would fit in nicely. :)

  • Bassowman Who played the bass on Money,Money,Money and Voules Vous? What type bass? Sure sounds like a Stingray. Thanks

  • I have tried to follow the bass line on this song before and to hear it played and so well is really great! - Thanks...(btw, you are also a handsome guy... :)

  • Thanks for that. I had to learn this song for a gig & your video was a great help. Rutger Gunnarsson was a fantastic bass player. He was a huge part of the ABBA sound.

  • @stephen3760

Was? He lives and is active. But, well, I havn't heard him playing for many years, so perhaps he is not good any more?

  • bass!

  • Wow! I even didn't imagine that bassline of Dancing Queen was so harmonic and complicated

  • Perfect groove!

  • Great playing and that's a beautiful looking bass!

  • Fantastic!

  • I haven't seen anyone doing such a great job at this bassline. Great video to watch and learn. There are a few notes I couln'd hear well int the recording and you just gave me what I was looking for. Great McCartney's basslines as well, I saw all the videos in your channel. Hello from Puerto Rico, USA, Caribbean, Mr. Bassowman!

  • Great job. Like your bass. Couldn´t find it in german stores. Where did you buy it?

  • Tnx! It was only manufactured in 384 copies in 1980-81. I bought it from a collector.

  • grande

  • Such an underrated gem. Great job.

  • excellent playing !

  • GREAT! Really interesting, all those details!

Do you pluck with your ring finger much? I'm fooling around with bass now and could use a pointer from you. I can do alright plucking with my first two fingers but it's harder to add my ring finger to the strings.

  • Most people are fine with just 2 fingers

  • Thanks! I normally just play using the first two fingers. Sometimes I use the ring finger when I play triplets. Check out my vid "Abe Laboriel solo bass playalong".

  • Wow!

I have said for many years that Rutger Gunnarsson is easily my favourite bassist, much to the occasional look of bemusement from fellow musicians lol! It's his ability to control note length and his natural sense of rhythm that always impressed me most.

Brilliant rendition- you've obviously gone to a lot of effort to transcribe the bass part so that it sounds bang-on. I always loved RG's "Dancing Queen" part; "I'm A Marionette" and "Lay All Your Love On Me" have great basslines too. :-)

  • standing ovations for the song, the singing, that bass line, the hagstrom bass guitar and your playing. (but not the song text ;-) )

  • you know, until now a get to pay attention to the bass in this song and it`s absolutely a piece of art.

    thanks * * * * *

  • Very nice. I've never had the opportunity to try Hagström Super Swede bass. I assume its a passive bass but what kind of strings do you have on it?

  • Thanks! It's a passive bass. I have Tomastik Infeld flatwounds on it..

  • Underbar cover :)

Måste någ ta och öva mer

    5*****

  • Fin bas, har också en sådan!

Förmodligen en av världens bästa basar.

  • great stuff. Love those slides. great tone

  • The bassline is an very important element of pop music. And you did it very well here :-) *****

  • Great playing! Great tone! Excellent job.

  • Mi five stars of today, because of the tone, the accuracy and the neatness shown in your video. Great gear also; I really love the (quite unusual) Hagströms.

  • This is a Beautyful bass!

I had never noticed (until now) that this song has such an awesome bassline .

    Well played!

  • Great tone, great bass and a great player!

  • Mind Blowing bass line

  • You are the best!

    This bass its really awesome!

Oh god, what set up and program you use?

  • Thanks! I run the bass simply through a Korg PX4D Pandora. Here I just use the bridge pickup, but the tone is fat enough:-)

  • Bassowman, we praise you. Sssssssssssolid. This, to me, is what real bass playing is about.

  • Wow very good!

  • Man does that bring back memories...... Tonight I will be giving up burnt offerings in your honor to the bass gods. What kind of rig and set up do you use? I love your tone.

    Mike

  • Thanks! I run the bass simply through a Korg PX4D Pandora. It is the instrument that makes the difference.
