The 1490T is strange- it was touted as a high end model when I purchased it, but Garmin doesn't stand behind it at all. My battery never held a charge but they refused to repair it, saying that batteries are "wear items" and not covered by the warranty. Yeah, right.
Is anyone else having problems with the 1490 Favourites folders? Creating a subfolder is not working (that is, when you want to group all your friends addresses, it wouldn't let you).
I still own a nuvi 260w and it always lets me create subfolder on the Favourites.
@tmrwic It seems like if you don't have enough favourites (I don't know how many, somewhere around ten or so), your folders are not shown. I wondered the same thing a while ago, but after adding a few favourites, the folders appeared. I doesn't make any sense to me, but obviously it does to Garmin…
@mikeyadonis1 How do you mean? How you can assign a picture to your favourites? First copy your pictures to the JPEG folder (for example /media/GARMIN/JPEG/ depending on your operating system), they need to be in JPEG format I think. You can't have the same pictures for more than one favourite.
I had the same problem with my GPS, I could repair several times but the last time I could not, I did the following, disassemble the GPS unit, disconnect the battery, and connects to the PC using the USB cable is restored the system several times, I think the problem is caused by the connections of power car, because the energy of the car is controlled by the cumputadora the car and the power is flashing, do not go out at once, it is best to disconnect the connector of cigarettes if not in use.
I got a Garmin Nuvi 1490T for my summer roadtrip from seattle to san diego. It totally died on me on my way back. It started out rebooting and speaker would not function normally after reboot... then... it just wouldn't turn back on. In the middle of no where and totally pitch black at night. I was lucky that I have an iphone on me to get me home. Returned the gps unit the very next day I got back to Costco.
I just exchanged a garmin 265wt to get a 1490t model. after updating at garmin i have noticed that i am not able to get a satelite reception. Now I am totally disgusted and thinking about getting rid of my garmin and getting a Tom Tom.. Garmin should not be putting products on the market without totally testing for accuracy and reliability
I have this device. It is easily left on which drains the battery. When the battery is drained it can take between 1 and 2 hours to recover during which time it repeatedly reboots like this.
It shouldnt do this, but it does. When charged its brilliant, just do not let it discharge fully.....
The same problem affected my unit... worn out connection on the Nüvi... and just when I was updating it... now is a book holder!.. and they just replied that they are currently having too much traffic on repairs and support... I need to wait!...
@gop2165 - What a nasty thing to say to someone who's intent on posting this video is to help lame-brains like you. What are you, 5 years old? Grow up!
If or when it's me, I think that I would rather have it repaired by garmin rather than get an exchange because if they exchange it, then you could be getting another unit with the same issue.
I think your problem might be a physical issue. With my new Nuvi 1250, I think the mini-usb connection goes in and out, causing the unit to cycle on and off. Bad design--no solution I can find as yet.
I agree, mine does the same thing and all I have to do to make it work is move the usb plug a little, slide it back some or push it in. It's a poor design really, in my opinion because in order to take it out of the car and go in the house with it, you have to unplug it. I think that the plug will wear out in time because of this. The way the old ones are designed are better because they snap into place and an actual mechanism holds it in place.
just bought one 2 days ago. Worked fine until I updated it. Now, it does the same thing. Tomorrow I'm calling support line. If they can't help me I'm buying a tomtom. My 3rd Garmin and every generation gets worse.
Buy it from a retail store like Best Buy and get the insurance plan. Its worth it in case anything happens. If you buy it from on line, you get the basic warranty and then the manufacturer. It really sucks when the manufacturer says "We don't do exchanges!"
Mine did the same thing. Got steadily worse to the point where it wouldn't turn on at all. Thankfully I had purchased a protection plan from Best Buy. Exchanged it and was on my way in under 5 minutes. Now updating and dumping in all the favorites took quite a bit longer, but fingers crossed this one won't have the same issue!
I have the same problem ,its because you have plugged the charger on the side and not in the back of the device , simple as that

Do you regret buying your prius without navi? I some times do regret buying my car without navi.

Don't ever send it in for repair- they actually give you another person's repaired one.

Totally worthless Garmin. Same thing happens to my 255W. And their technical support is terrible, always 30+ minute wait times.
Going to iPhone nav apps.
