Hi Scott, I picked up a Baikal in 7.62X39 and was wondering if you scoped yours and waht you used for a mount? With the receiver being so short, an airgun mount was suggested to me. Another thing, what did you use to hold down the front site lock spring so you could turn the screw up or down? Maybe my front site spring that locks the screw in place is just stiff but I cant push it all the way down with my thumb. I was thinking of a small pipe wrench with the jaws wrapped in cloth.
@nhop2005 I gave up on scope mounts because they always moved. Your sight must be stiff because I just push my sight down and turn the screw up or down by hand.
Interesting weapon! I learned from a Russian friend of mine that the word Baikal is actually the name of a lake near the Artic in the northeast area in Siberia. They way the Russians say Baikal is Bakoo. I have a side by side Baikal 12 guage and an over an under as well. Baikal made good reliable weapons. I think Remington bought that company back in 2006.
@GOBRAGH2 hi, actually we are saying - [Baika:l]. not bakoo - this is not right. It is Irkutsk oblast[state] in Siberia. And it is not in the nothest area

@FatherOfSin Europeans laugh at the USA for just about everything. Many Americans don't know how to say this word Baikal especially if they are not from Eastern Europe. They will say it the way it is spelled. People should know have to say the word correctly, but not everyone will care. I can't do anything about that.
Baikal makes very good shotguns. Definitely worth buying!
Just watched through your Mosin 91/30 videos and finished up here. When my friends question why I have so much praise for Russian arms, I think I can save time and show them your range videos, and save using my bullets.
lol i got that gun in 222rem. for foxes n rabbits over here in the nordic europe :) its a cheap gun wonder how cheap its over there :P but even though its cheap its got sum bad ass accuracy :) the trigger pull is aswell very though going to polish it and see if i can get it to be smoother :).
and i had sum trouble finding sum scope rings and to special order a rail for it :/ and grind sum metal of so it would closed properly :P. how do u like ur gun ?
Nice video. I just bought a Baikal IZH-18MH 7.62x54R myself and I'm looking forward to shooting it. It has 11mm dovetails and I might put on a Weaver K 2.5x scope on it.
I just put a scope on it and i'm going to start reloading with 150 grain bullets.I think the 125gr bullet might be a bit light for our deer/black bear.
7.62 is used for most 30caliber rifles that fire .308-.310" bullets. 7.62mm is .30 not.308 thats is 7.82mm. 7.62mm is the bore size of the barrel where 7.82 would be the grove size...
is it more accurate than the mosin?
matthewHizzle 1 week ago
@matthewHizzle Has a tighter bore then most Mosins but the trigger is about as bad lol.

@josmarabdel1976 are you saying there is no such things as a 7.62x54r rounds?
MrDip02 3 months ago
@MrDip02 The 7.62x54R has been around since the late 1800s, it is FAR older than our x51, It is at least 15 years older than the 30-06.
cmblake6 3 months ago
@cmblake6 oh i knew it was old but not that old that's pretty intresting
MrDip02 3 months ago
@MrDip02 At least 1891, if not earlier. And it is STILL a damned fine round!

@GudonuS Alright! Thanks for setting me straight. Would people from Moscow not know Irkutsk? Does it have anything to do with the Lake Baikal?

Haven't had any problems with it yet.

It's pronounced more like "bye"+"cal", not "bay"+"cal" ;-)
btw, is it not ejecting cartridges when you break a rifle, or you do it carefully on purpose because you are saving cartridges for reloading?
TTok33 3 years ago
It doesnt eject the cases...

stout recoil...Please don't tell me that gun has 11mm Dovetails...
Do they sell them is 7.5x55mm Swiss? :)

They don't come in 7.5x55 swiss.

I'd be willing to get one in 7.62x54r just to be able to hunt with it without having to take my heavy mosins in the field.
I killed a deer with my k31 from about 300 yards but I was sitting down and had a shooting stick.
Thanks
