Loved it..used to watch the spanish version back in my country Cuba. What a great episode, I'd never ever miss it! The song is spanish is just as good!
You can make this into a ringtone. Ive done it to whole heaps of nostalgic stuff. I aint a spammer btw! 32 yr old who used to luv this shit.... God bless the 80s.
A friend of mine lent me the boxset. This version of the theme isn't in it, so its nice to see it in its entirety.
When I borrowed it I was worried that Nono would get on my tits but it turns out that the crap English dubbing is worse. I'm sure these days someone could do a better translation of the French dialogue.
But thinking on a grander scale, how about a Battlestar Galactica style reboot? CGI, live action or both perhaps? Could really flesh out the episodes...
No, far from it. In my imagination of what the reboot version of U31 would be, Nono would be a semi sentient toy that would start to consider its impact on the universe after it destroyed the Cyclops. It would get neurotic about how the outcome of its actions led to the state of all the ships crew. Despite its overriding function to clown, it would come up against its feelings of guilt for its actions involving waving about a mirror. Nono could turn out as the most human character of the show.
thanks for clearing that up for me, now when the theme tune gets stuck in my head for a few hours I'll be able to sing every last lyric without mumbling over that part!
i started reading Homer when this came out, i was 4. Absolutely brilliant, great stories. I hate using the phrase 'they dont make em like this anymore' but it is completely true, you pitch a cartoon executive with this sort of stuff, you get laughed out of the room.
nice way of education kids about Homer's ...but kid dont know shit aout HOmer! lol they have no idea that they are watching a remake of Human Grec historia
they sure don't make them like they used too. I used to watch this religiously, in spanish though. Still, its the best cartoon ever along with Candy Candy
I remember one episode where ulysses help this man on a world where he pushes a big Rock in a hole then he walks all the way down the hill...where the rock is back to be pushed up...the man was empriosned there for a crime he did.
so great! they dont make shows like this anymore. now everything has to be so educational and crap! i pity the kids today for missing the great cartonns of the 80s and 90s!
the creator of this cartoon is the French Jean Chalopin which has create also the mysterious cities of gold, jayce, the littles, inspector gadget, mask, and still many other haughtiness cartoon! thanks to him because it gave us pretty presents!
hmph! I've just had to go and buy this now after seeing this clip :)Excellent and sometimes chilling music if I remember correctly. This, and dungeons and dragons are without doubt the best cartoons ever.
same...hey could you guys please check our vids? They're hilarious and not a waste of time e.g. excellent skateboarding, my friend dances naked (lol), we destroy ourselves on our skateboards and last but not least we kill for sale signs!! funny stuff, i advise you watch, thanks:) Mike.
There will be a official DVD release of MYSTERIOUS CITIES OF GOLD in English language available in 2008.. So we don't have to suffer anymore crappy pirate copies ! I also read on 80scartoon web site (uk) that the company wants the fans to suggest what extras they'd like to see. !
Damn! I love all these old shows! I like the old school hand-drawn animation. It kicks asssssss!!!! The new computer animated stuff is all right, but it took a lot more skill and talent to do it the old way.
yes hehehe! totally agree! he looks like (in my opinion) some guy from a film of the seventies but I don't know who, even the voice seems to be from this guy. Sorry for my english.
Other great 80's cartoons I grew up with are Jason and the wheeled warriors, Transformers, Visionaries, Ollie oxtails, Thundercats, Dino-riders, Mask, Pole Position, Heathcliff...oh man cartoons back then ruled.
Man my childhood just flashed back to me! Genius cartoon! Must remember to get the DVD. Even as a kid I loved the creepiness of some episodes. Plus Ulysees had a gun/lightsaber combo and jet shoes - what a guy!
The girl was called U-me, Her floating unconcious brother was called Numenor, The boy Telemacus, the robot was called No-no....shit its all coming back to me.
Amazing theme tune! I cant belive I've found this clip as i'd forgot all about it. I remember the floating body's being pretty scary as a child!! Best cartoon ever!
I'm a spanish girl and I saw it in spanish and the song was good too. The song is really amazyng. Why now there are not cartoons like thissss. Why why?
Oh man that theme song rocked hard... I LOVED this cartoon as a child! Though I remember when I was about 12 asking others if they remembered it and no one else did :(
w3rd the intro is one of my personal favorites. I was like 6 years old when I saw it for the first time.I almost forgot the show but then they air it again back in 2004.
An old fave from childhood - I used to have dreams based on this series. Would make one hell of a good live action film ( or series of films ) and with today's computer tech it would be great. Maybe they'll get around to it one day - be interesting to see who ends up playing these characters.
One of my two faves from the 80s. Cities of Gold is the other. I rushed out as soon as I heard these were available on DVD.
I always had a thing for Numanor as a kid but you hardley ever seen him. Loved the ending episode were all those dead people were floating backwards, and Ulysses at the very end made a noble choice.
Absolutey wonderful, shame kids of today don't get such quality.
Yes they've been on DVD for about 2 years now, I got mine from Gameplay, but I have seen them in HMV and Virgin Music. Hope you find them, they're great!
yes he did dude, the last episode ulysses had the choice to go back to earth without his kids but he declined but the gods of olympus took this as a noble gesture and let him go back to earth with his kids.a bit hazy it was so long ago,but sure thats wat happened
That's what I was thinking too. lol Also Zeus looks like the God we have in mind. Unforrtunetley the English voice of Zeus is horrible. The French version gives him a Godly voice. :)
This was one of my favourite 'toons when I was about 4 or 5, loved it then and still do (im 25 now!) Tho you just KNEW that Yumi and Telemachus had a thing for eachother haha! Has anyone ever done an updated/metal version of the theme? Thanks for posting this mate!
Whoa, crap I haven't seen that in many, many years! I was living in England when it came out so it must've been between 20-25 years ago. Thanks for the vid. Great bit of nostalgia.
Oh yes. I had to listen again as its so brilliant (also doing a sound check against my favorite vid and its good quality unlike THE CUTTER which has been ruined somehow) Great sound, great vid and thanx again for uploading.
