  • the spanish version is the best.

  • OMG ive spent 25 years trying to remember what that cartoon it was i loved as a child was and at long last ive found it!

  • yes i remember ulysses 31 one of my favorite cartoons of the 80s

  • 40 years old and so glad I grew up with stuff like this! Need to dl this and show it to my kids. They're already lapping up 70's batman!

  • This cartoon was just epic. As a kid it blew my mind.

  • Im glad i was a kid in the 80s

  • I wish this version of the intro was included on the R2 DVD release...

  • @ThotPran Hear bloody hear!!!!!

  • I would love to see this made into a movie........directed by Peter Jackson!.

  • switch on cc "ulysses kill the child psychologist..." LOL

  • @seva809

it gets funnier, i changed it to translate english into english and it started saying stuff like sanctuarys suck bird balls with drills.

    funny as fuck lol

  • @seva809 yeah you get some funny stuff with the closed captions

  • This is epic, I haven't seen a cartoon that depicts a tale for about 20 years

  • how much cooler were 80's cartoons!!!! its all garbage these days, i feel sorry for the youngsters...

  • I feel sorry for them too

  • @johnnyAlJazeera

Yes, nothing like the purity of the 80's cartoons.

  • Loved it..used to watch the spanish version back in my country Cuba. What a great episode, I'd never ever miss it! The song is spanish is just as good!

  • I'd love it if this were to be made into a movie.

  • You can make this into a ringtone. Ive done it to whole heaps of nostalgic stuff. I aint a spammer btw! 32 yr old who used to luv this shit.... God bless the 80s.

    Long live

  • Its me no-no, small robot you know......

Loved this when I was a kid. Sweet, sweet memories!

  • 0:44 - 1:04 rocks.

  • can someone with musical talent please do the right thing and make a dance/trance remix of this tune?

    that would be sweeeeeeeeet....

  • A friend of mine lent me the boxset. This version of the theme isn't in it, so its nice to see it in its entirety.

When I borrowed it I was worried that Nono would get on my tits but it turns out that the crap English dubbing is worse. I'm sure these days someone could do a better translation of the French dialogue.

But thinking on a grander scale, how about a Battlestar Galactica style reboot? CGI, live action or both perhaps? Could really flesh out the episodes...

  • dont be dissing nono man

  • No, far from it. In my imagination of what the reboot version of U31 would be, Nono would be a semi sentient toy that would start to consider its impact on the universe after it destroyed the Cyclops. It would get neurotic about how the outcome of its actions led to the state of all the ships crew. Despite its overriding function to clown, it would come up against its feelings of guilt for its actions involving waving about a mirror. Nono could turn out as the most human character of the show.

  • lmao , thats cleared that up

  • fucking awsome iam 31 now l remember it like yesterday

  • the only episode of this i can remember is the one where he got stuck in some kind of giant pinball machine?

  • "Chronos Father Of Time" love that episode, especially the deadly chess set

  • Awesome, I had started to doubt this existed and was made up in my head. have been trying to find it for ages. Haven't seen it for at least 20 years.

  • This song is amazing!! such a shame this kind of music has been wiped out of existance these days!!!

  • Ulyseeee-EEEEEEE-eeeeeee-EEEEEEEs

    best theme song ever

  • use to love this programme best programme ever theme music is awesome as well

  • what are the lyrics to the robotic voice part? I have no idea and it's bugged me for about 20 years....

  • It's me Nono small robot you know!

    Friend of Ulysses.,,

    Ulysses.,,

It's me Nono small robot you know.

    Friend of Ulysses...

  • haha! brilliant

thanks for clearing that up for me, now when the theme tune gets stuck in my head for a few hours I'll be able to sing every last lyric without mumbling over that part!

  • Have been wanting to hear that theme track for ages to take me back....best cartoon ever. If it was a comic, it would be Judge Dredd. Thanks man!

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHA OMG I LOVE THE 80s. SERIOUSLY WHAT. THE. FUCK.

  • been trying to remember this cartoon for over 20 years i cant believe i just saw this again..80s cartoons were the best and there theme songs too..

  • i started reading Homer when this came out, i was 4. Absolutely brilliant, great stories. I hate using the phrase 'they dont make em like this anymore' but it is completely true, you pitch a cartoon executive with this sort of stuff, you get laughed out of the room.

  • nice way of education kids about Homer's ...but kid dont know shit aout HOmer! lol they have no idea that they are watching a remake of Human Grec historia

  • they sure don't make them like they used too. I used to watch this religiously, in spanish though. Still, its the best cartoon ever along with Candy Candy

  • I used to love this cartoon! I loved his weapons and spaceships.

  • Wow, is this based on the bible?

Cause it sure feel biblically epic!!!

  • Its based on the Greek Myths, and in particular The Odyssey by Homer.

  • You are alive my son!! :D

    Hahahaha.....Happy days.

  • I remember one episode where ulysses help this man on a world where he pushes a big Rock in a hole then he walks all the way down the hill...where the rock is back to be pushed up...the man was empriosned there for a crime he did.

  • Sisyphus!

  • Classic. They don't make cartoons like this anymore. The theme song rules as well. Hail The 80's.

  • Many happy memorys of watching this, awsome awsome show....

Even though i wanted to melt down that fricking robot

  • this was the bomb!! along with jem, she-ra and he-man, the 7 color flower and candy... and then i wonder why i like science fiction and anime mmmmmmm

  • mmm bittersweet nostalgia

  • lol I agree does taste good that nostalgia though :)

  • tremendous cartoon, cartoons now are shite. Baddies could win etc in the old days

  • god that's showing my age !

  • so great! they dont make shows like this anymore. now everything has to be so educational and crap! i pity the kids today for missing the great cartonns of the 80s and 90s!

  • Ha! Great!! I loved the theme tune & show. Great memories!!

  • the creator of this cartoon is the French Jean Chalopin which has create also the mysterious cities of gold, jayce, the littles, inspector gadget, mask, and still many other haughtiness cartoon! thanks to him because it gave us pretty presents!

  • this song been entirely copied on the original music which is in French! voices of ulysses, nono, télémak, zeus, shirka is also very plagiarized!

  • It was shown on BBC Children's TV back in the mid 1980's. Seems only like yesterday. Many thanks for the happy memories.

  • Properly Old School! Brilliant!

  • hmph! I've just had to go and buy this now after seeing this clip :)Excellent and sometimes chilling music if I remember correctly. This, and dungeons and dragons are without doubt the best cartoons ever.

  • fucken ulysses 31 go ulysses!

  • where can i buy this tune frm? its brill is it on LP?...XD

  • really miss it...thanks for bringing back memories...

  • Excellent cartoon and the theme song kicks ass!, it sounds even better in Spanish though.

  • This was THE cartoon in the 80's! Oh yes!

  • This is the shit right here!!!!!!! Kids nowadays don't know what they miss.

Ulysses 31, y otros animes hicieron mas feliz mi niñez!!!

  • There will be a official DVD release of MYSTERIOUS CITIES OF GOLD in English language available in 2008.. So we don't have to suffer anymore crappy pirate copies ! I also read on 80scartoon web site (uk) that the company wants the fans to suggest what extras they'd like to see. !

  • When I saw this as a kid, I thought the bearded guy was Jesus. Even the name Ulysses kind of sounds like Jesus.

  • lol

  • no shit

  • yes thats what i thoughwhen i saw it lol !

  • Damn! I love all these old shows! I like the old school hand-drawn animation. It kicks asssssss!!!! The new computer animated stuff is all right, but it took a lot more skill and talent to do it the old way.

  • This show is awesome, I got a bootleg DVD set from my friend in good quality.

Too bad the cartoons of today are pure garbage.

  • That is awesome thanks so much for posting it. We all loved this cartoon as kids!

  • they shud release this on vinyal

  • I frickin love this choon

  • Hotter than Aragorn? Hmmm...yes, easily!

(Tries to imagine Mani from _Brotherhood of the Wolf_ in a goatee...smooching Ulysses..

    ...succeeds. <giggle!>)

  • He is definitely the hottest bearded man ever!

  • yes hehehe! totally agree! he looks like (in my opinion) some guy from a film of the seventies but I don't know who, even the voice seems to be from this guy. Sorry for my english.

  • Other great 80's cartoons I grew up with are Jason and the wheeled warriors, Transformers, Visionaries, Ollie oxtails, Thundercats, Dino-riders, Mask, Pole Position, Heathcliff...oh man cartoons back then ruled.

  • Man my childhood just flashed back to me! Genius cartoon! Must remember to get the DVD. Even as a kid I loved the creepiness of some episodes. Plus Ulysees had a gun/lightsaber combo and jet shoes - what a guy!

The girl was called U-me, Her floating unconcious brother was called Numenor, The boy Telemacus, the robot was called No-no....shit its all coming back to me.

  • was brilliant!

  • Very cool! Completely forgot about this show. Watched it back in the 80s! Where can I get the episodes from?

  • They are available in a dvd boxset.

  • Why was that song never released?

  • La epoca de los 80's fue tan inocente natural y se vio el traspaso al comienzo masivo de la perversion y libertinaje de los 90 y 2000 mejor ni digo

  • I remember racing home from school to watch this !!

    GREAT STUFF

  • Fantastic what a blast from the past really loved it.

  • Amazing theme tune! I cant belive I've found this clip as i'd forgot all about it. I remember the floating body's being pretty scary as a child!! Best cartoon ever!

  • I'm a spanish girl and I saw it in spanish and the song was good too. The song is really amazyng. Why now there are not cartoons like thissss. Why why?

  • Oh man that theme song rocked hard... I LOVED this cartoon as a child! Though I remember when I was about 12 asking others if they remembered it and no one else did :(

  • w3rd the intro is one of my personal favorites. I was like 6 years old when I saw it for the first time.I almost forgot the show but then they air it again back in 2004.

  • who ever made this cartoon licked some wickid shrooms and swallowed some seriouse acid trips

  • An old fave from childhood - I used to have dreams based on this series. Would make one hell of a good live action film ( or series of films ) and with today's computer tech it would be great. Maybe they'll get around to it one day - be interesting to see who ends up playing these characters.

  • dam i was like 5 when i use to watch this this cartoon was really good

  • found the entire series online

just type tv-links (with dash) into google

    :-)

  • One of my two faves from the 80s. Cities of Gold is the other. I rushed out as soon as I heard these were available on DVD.

I always had a thing for Numanor as a kid but you hardley ever seen him. Loved the ending episode were all those dead people were floating backwards, and Ulysses at the very end made a noble choice.

Absolutey wonderful, shame kids of today don't get such quality.

  • They're out on DVD?!?!?! ::goes to ebay::

  • Yes they've been on DVD for about 2 years now, I got mine from Gameplay, but I have seen them in HMV and Virgin Music. Hope you find them, they're great!

  • did he ever get home?

  • yes he did dude, the last episode ulysses had the choice to go back to earth without his kids but he declined but the gods of olympus took this as a noble gesture and let him go back to earth with his kids.a bit hazy it was so long ago,but sure thats wat happened

  • lmao at "aka The Adventures of Jesus in Space"

  • aka The Adventures of Jesus in Space

  • That's what I was thinking too. lol Also Zeus looks like the God we have in mind. Unforrtunetley the English voice of Zeus is horrible. The French version gives him a Godly voice. :)

  • big yourself up baby. twice

  • i cant belive someone actually found this. it use to come on sunday mornings

  • i love this theme im big 80s cartoons fan and this is 1 of my faves

  • This was one of my favourite 'toons when I was about 4 or 5, loved it then and still do (im 25 now!) Tho you just KNEW that Yumi and Telemachus had a thing for eachother haha! Has anyone ever done an updated/metal version of the theme? Thanks for posting this mate!

  • this was shit hot back in the day

i was gutted when it was the final episode

  • How often did I sing this as a kid? Catchy as hell

  • Loved this in my childhood and loving it even more in my adulthood....have all episodes on dvd :-)

  • Whoa, crap I haven't seen that in many, many years! I was living in England when it came out so it must've been between 20-25 years ago. Thanks for the vid. Great bit of nostalgia.

  • The word Ulysses doesn't fit in the English version opening lyrics... sounds better in Spanish.

  • They should release this as a single, its great.

  • Ah...I loved that cartoon as a child!

  • Oh yes. I had to listen again as its so brilliant (also doing a sound check against my favorite vid and its good quality unlike THE CUTTER which has been ruined somehow) Great sound, great vid and thanx again for uploading.

  • great theme, thanks for sharing you`re a star!

  • Best toon theme ever. Thanx muchly.

  • Mazinger and Ulises 31 were the best cartoons ever!!!!

  • ancient one...

  • Brings back childhood nostalgia. Far too cool.

  • This is still the best cartoon in all the universe!! I pity the children who grew up without it.

  • Aww this was the BEST!

  • the best sci-fi cartoon series of the 80s

favourite episode the labyrinth of knossos

  • Definitely one of the greatest cartoon intros of all time.

  • omf gots my fucking name in it hell yes bitch omfg yes

  • IN ENGLISH IF YOU PLEASE?

  • i want to cover this song!

  • Damn...I forgot about this one...It had the most kick ass opening song!

  • Timeless anime.

Thanks for this moment of nostalgia!

    Ulysse revient!

  • Watched it at the time, some very clever stories - much underated.

  • it brings so many memories...holy crap the nostalgia...thanks for bringing it back up...

  • good upload.. i remember this very well.

  • wtf gay

  • You have no clue how cool this show was. Best cartoon evr!!!

  • as i said , wtf gay

  • not gay - its the best cartoon ever!

  • ...I must had been sleeping under a rock when this cartoon came out! It seems interesting!!! Cool Theme Music!

  • This cartoon debuted in the US around 81'. The thing that made it so unique at the time was that it was a Japan-French cooperation. Studios D.I.C. and Tokyo Movie Shinsha (Akira) colaborated on this animation to create a very unique storyline based series. Though not as popular in the US as it was abroad it does have an American cult following.

  • I used to watch this series in spanish, the theme song sounded awesome. Great video, have you ever heard of the Spartacus the cartoon?

  • no, was that out at the same time as this?

  • One of the most brilliant yet underrated sci fi cartoon series of all times. A novel concept and great graphics considering tyhe 80s.Too bad it didnt get the recognition it deserved.

  • best cartoon in the world!...bringing peace and justice to all!!
