  • there is no "english" accent. RP is the generic accent, but there are so many regional accents that shakesp's characters would have used--his audience would have heard them and assigned character attributes from them. the soldiers in Henry V are specific. sorry, love, but if you are only listening for the accent you are never really hearing the words.

  • love Helen Hunt 05:07 !

  • was Toby Stephens playing Caesar for this and who was Robert Sean Leonard playing

  • I just can't take Shakespeare done in an American accent seriously. It sounds better with English accent. Sorry love but if you could act you'd do the accent

  • is this woman an actress? She reads Shakespeare without passion and wastes the fine words; put some life into it woman!

  • yes she's an actress and she's the mother of gwyneth paltrow.

  • Standard American dialect is closer to the original elizabethan pronunciation than RP (what is used on most stages). But that's only according to John Barton.

    What does he know?

  • Can't agree with you there sir. The English accent has nothing to do with the English accent of Shakespeare's time. If we can't accept it in another dialect, we can't truly accept Shakespeare.

  • Ah, but, Robert Sean Leonard and Tony Goldwyn both looked so cute as well--we wouldn't want to miss that.

  • who hold the camera? I should fix the lens on toby if i hold the camera.
