The USA '94 team has been the best team Nigeria ever produced till date...after winning the African Nations Cup earlier in the year, the momentum was just there to be carried to the world cup...every department had a world class player....and the team work was just excellent.
I can see where you're coming from, but remember Rashidi himself forgot his mates that set him up for the 'tap in' goal..if he didn't score, Amunike was waiting for the ball...he should have gone to the player that set up the goal first rather than seeing himself as the hero....it was all due to team effort. What did he then do afterwards?....football is a team game.

It is so sad and eternally regrettable that Yekini celebrated that goal all by himself. None of the ten members deemed it fit to join him in the celebration. What a shame for an entire nation and its divisive intrigues!!
To score the very first goal for your country in its first ever appearance in the senior world cup competition is a great achievement That's the reason why Yekini will never be forgotten as far as Football is concerned in Nigeria.
i remembered this i was 10 yrs old when the match was played. and it was around 10pm. That day was one the greatest of my life- is like all Nigerians were watching the game cos the screaming from the public was just enough to deaf.
I will never in my life forget Yekini's celebration to this goal. Its what the World Cup is all about. Pure, Raw Passion. What a great team Nigeria was at the 94 World Cup
@gallisable I don't know from where you are but I doubt in your country you had, have or will ever have any player that is worth of cleaning Maradona's shoes.
@Sembrarsrl I'm originally from Sao Paulo, but I have been living in Brasilia and London for most of my adult life. I think one of my country men called Pele is always rated as the best before Maradonna and Maradonna is always rated second best to Edson Arantes do Nascimento AKA Pele to you and me and the rest of the football world. Once again who is the all time leading World Cup Goal Scorer? Ronaldo, the real original Ronaldo AKA Luís Nazário de Lima AKA il Fenomeno. not Maradonna
@gallisable Pele played in another era of soccer, it's like George Best ... if they would have treated him as they treated Maradona on the field, he would be injured in his second match. Maradona did not only had great dibbling but he anticipated the rivals, jumped the kicks, maintained control of the ball in spite of people grabbing him, tackling him .... Pele was never like him. Then he scored most of his goals in COSMOS US ... come on!!! Maradona almost by himself took Napoli to glory.
@Sembrarsrl Everyone who knows football always recognizes maradona as 2nd best. It's a natural thing we accept. Pele won 3 World Cups Diego won 1. Pele scored 77 goals in 92 caps for Brasil. Diego scored 34 in 94 caps. Don't get me wrong Diego was an excellent player but he is more likely to b surpassed by future players. The old Ronaldo has stats which suggest he has achieved more than Maradona, yet he is not ranked as second best player in the world after Pele World's best is opinion based.
@gallisable I don't know from where you are but I doubt in your country you had, have or will ever have any player that is worth of cleaning Maradona's shoes.
Mind u.... Maradona was the true legend......... And Nigeria always played the cheap, third-rate tactic of deliberately fouling the Argentine No.10..... U Nigerians repeated the worst tactic again in 2002 (Ortega) and 2010 (Messi) with an intention to injure him...... Nigeria, SHAME on u.........
Unfortunately,Nigeria football has gone downhill . Professional soccer, while monetarily rewarding, has also killed Nigeria's football style. The individual skils that used to make Nigeria football very entertaining has been destroyed. Add to that the importation of foreign coaches who knows nothing about Nigeria's football system. SMH
Nigeria need a foreign coach to give them dicipline and tactics. Nigerian coaches do not
have European top level experience to win at the highest level. The Under 17 teams are the greatest ever in history, with a better record then Brazil. The problem is taking that to adult level.
south american coaches dont have european experience yet they seem to be winning world cup. Stop your inferiority complex and just get decent nigerian coach and u will do fine
And South American teams are often the most tactically naieve, relying on pure talent. Just look at Argentina a shambles. Brazil never won the world cup with tactics, they are an acception.
.
I'm half English so there is no Inferiority complex. . Even England admit most of the English coaches are not as good as European at the moment. Look what capello has done to England. Nigeria need the same thing and get a coach with Champions League experince.
Nigeria was then a team to watch, the 2nd round match with Italy wasn't freely arbitrated... FIFA and the days referee should admit that, but it's a past that can't come back.
ru kidding? Baggio scored a perfect goal 2 minutes from the end...how was that a referee decision??? ALSO, Zola was sent off!!! Italy was down to 10 men! If anyone suffered from bad refereeing it was Italy! not Nigeria! get real please!
man when yekini scored that goal at 1:10 i was in yaba lagos u could hear the screams for miles, it felt like the whole of nigeria was watching that match!
who ever put this together knows nothing about Nigerian soccer. The back ground music is not approved by nigerian soccer fans. THIS IS NOT NIGERIAN SOCCER MuSIC. Also you said 1994 highlights but you have clips from elswhere. You owe Nigeria an apology. YOU SHOULD BE TRIED FOR TREASON.
Ahi hicieron terminar la carrera de maradona. Que recalque siempre eso a los de la FIFA. mafiosos de mierda. Quisieron a Pelé como el jugador del siglo pero Maradona LES ROMPIO EL CULO A TODOS!
