  • Great work man, love how clean it is, hope that i can play this one day =D

  • one of my favorite things to play , you absolutly nailed it.

  • you paly some diffrent notes than the orignal version put some extra to it like its cream on a already delicous cake. Love it

  • I wish I could play this song like u do but the rythim es pretty complicated for me xD

  • And that's how you give affection to your guitar

  • Everything was good but the solos. Work on it!

  • wow mark knopfler, why you´re young in the video?

  • moma used to play this song a lot in the car when i was a kid, im so happy i found this song now

  • Great man !

  • Wow! Splendid! Brilliant! At least I have it there to study and learn! I really dig your candor, encouragement and manner of explaining and sharing. You are a total inspiration! I'm going to take it on one riff at a time and give myself a year!

  • @SteveSchwartz1 thanks!

  • gr888 playing!

  • excellente 5*

  • to put it simply... brilliant! very well done on this!

  • @mikeyd204 thanks mate!

  • Hey great job man! I was thinking about making a cover of this, but once I saw this I realized I needed a little more work on it lol! I like how you nailed every fill that mark knopfler played in the song. Amazing cover bro! :)

  • @mguitarman100 thanks! happy new year! :)

  • @julioboogie Can you tell me where to get the tabs?

  • @thesovietshooter if you could get journal Total Guitar, June 1997, Issue 31 - in the CD there is backingtrack for this song with tabs.

  • @thesovietshooter if you could get journal Total Guitar, June 1997, Issue 31 - in the CD there is backingtrack for this song with tabs

  • Maybe I could ask for your advice. I've been working on this song for a long time now, and I just can't get that last solo down...you know the part I'm talking about, where you fingerpicked the fast/best part of the song. I just can't get that pattern down! I've heard you pick the high E string with the thumb and also the B string, but I just can't get it...it makes my brain go numb. any advice?

  • @LastPhyrexian If you have a tab, it shouldn't be difficult to figure out the pattern for fingers. My picking pattern goes like - I'm starting with thumb on E string, then pull of and thumb on B string and other finger on E string, and again that pull-offing note I'm picking with thumb on E string and pattern is being repeated throughout the solo... Do I need to shoot small video for this part slower? :) You can do it with pick too.

  • hey man, where did u get tabs for this? btw, this blew my mind away!

  • @Guitarman461 if you could get journal Total Guitar, June 1997, Issue 31 - in the CD there is backingtrack for this song with tabs. Or you can use any tab available at ultimate guitar site and listening to original you can get how to play it. There are many software that can slow down mp3, loop sections - I used to nail this song an app called Transcribe It.

  • how do u make a backin track??

  • @H2daH it's simple - google it :) guitarbackingtrack

  • @daroodee yeah, me too... :)

@julioboogie really awesome, thanks for posting

  • How long have you been learning guitar and how long did it take you to learn this song?

    Thanks

  • @EazyDuz18 almost two years ago I've got the same question and I guess I can just repeat my answer to you ;)

If I say you that it took a couple of days to learn it, it would not help you :) becouse you have to keep in mind all those 14 years of playing behind my back. OK, I have learned it few years ago (so, less years for you to practice ;-), but we used to play often this song during gigs in the band I have been playing, so.. right now it sit's in my hands quite hard.

  • @julioboogie

Ok then here is a different question.

With those 14 years, how many less do you think it would have taken before playing this song the way you do?

Like if you began learning having never used a guitar before, after how many years do you think you could play this song?

    Thanks

  • @EazyDuz18 :) it's not that complicated though, I guess it should take less than year to learn it with systematic approach. To be able play this song you have to practice on hammer on's and pull off's, bends, barre chords and of course arpegios for finger's strength. Learn it playing bar by bar, slowly.

  • Awsome!

  • Missing a few notes.

Perfect timing great feel great guitar great guitarist. 9/10

  • what guitar is that those humbuckers sound sweet as.great playing also dude keep it up you nailed the solo spot on cheers

  • @oioioisupra Ibanez RG3120TW, don't have it anymore.

  • if i meet you i'm gonna break all your fingers......no one should be THAT good!!!

    very impressive.

  • if i meet you i'm gonna break all your fingers.......nobody should be THAT good!!!

great stuff man. very very impressive. thanks.

Please Check my Cover of this song and tell me what you think of it

  • Man I wish I could finger pick like you.. I'm so jealous

  • man, you are awesome!

  • Excellent, excellent music.

  • f*****g quality

    brilliant playing

  • I use this to practice the vocal....I'll never work the whole thing out on guitar but I would love to do a cover

    five is not enough! faved

  • love that part at 5:29-5:42 and you nailed it! great job man..

  • I love the sound of that guitar... nice playing.

  • well done

  • Muy bueno Julio, dale pa`lante.

  • love the song man especially at 1:46, well done!

  • Is that a computer program you're using for the backround sound? If it is what are you using?

  • it's a simple mp3 backing track.

  • capoo (Y

  • great job \0/

  • Good! You must improve the second solo, but the last part is very good. I enclose my version.

  • A band is blowing dixie double four time

You feel all right when you hear that music ring

  • The last solo sounds perfect mate. The timing is spot on. Have a question though - what settings have you got your amp on. Do you have a lot of gain on cos those pulloffs on the 13th fret are hard to sound.

  • Thanks. Gain was set arround 12-1 o'clock. Btw, I'm using Mesa's V-Twin 19" rackmount preamp for playing and recording (record out) and it has a possibility to mix clean and drive channels together. In this song I used a mix of two channels with ~70-80% of clean sound over drive. On both channels gain was around 12 o'clock, slightly more on clean but not much. There are two tracks recorded - one with fingers, other with pick, little PC post-processing was applied on the recorded guitar tracks.

  • Cool!!! (^o^)(^o^)(^o^)

  • i have the same backing track.. nice job

  • *clap clap*

    :D

  • Bravo ,super!

  • btw, are you playing with plectrum?

    its hard to see

  • I can play this song in both ways - with or without the pick. Btw, in this video I have recorded two tracks of my playing - first time with pick, second time - the same, but without the pick. And those two tracks are panned right and left (right now I don't remember in wich ear you should hear the playing with pick and in which without ;-). On video I'm playing without the pick.

  • with "pick" the sounds com quite hard (i mean the quality), not that soft, as mark k. (and you in the video) plays them, or is it possible to play it that soft, WITH pick?

  • try to mix those two techniques. I used to play sometimes with pick and adding free fingers, especially when playing intervals with skipped strings.

  • very very beautiful sound and well played:)

it's lovely to listen to this

  • hey, "pretty cool" :D

you say, you're playing about 14 years,

well, i'm now playing for about 14 hours ...

how long do i have to practise,

till i'm able to do this?

    greetz and lots of respect!

  • practice until you nail it! :)

  • well, thx, lol

i guess it may take a while ...

  • If I say you that it took a couple of days to learn it, it would not help you :) becouse you have to keep in mind all those 14 years of playing behind my back. OK, I have learned it few years ago (so, less years for you to practice ;-), but we used to play often this song during gigs in the band I have been playing, so.. right now it sit's in my hands quite hard.

  • Omg, lol, dude, you rock, it takes balls to put that in a comment. XD

  • :D thx, i'll keep that in mind, lol!

  • and i have one question where can i download drums sound say please

  • how long play you guitar?

  • about 14 years i guess

  • you plaing verry good!!

  • thanks! but it could be much better..

  • Dude?! Much better?! This is the best cover I've seen on like, all of youtube. (Well, except of course G3's live covers of songs--but, ya know. They are pretty much the best guitarists in the world right now >.>)

    (STEVIE VAI ROCKS >.>;; )

  • good job. good improvisation

  • thanks, but i would not call it real improvisation.. it's pretty the same what Knopfler plays in the record, except one thing - my fingers are my fingers ;-)

  • hey mannn up your tab for me...

    =D

  • you deserve the 5 star rating. very well done my friend. god bless

  • great job check out mine

  • The best rendition I have ever seen in YouTube. Very Good A++++++++++++

I can't play without a pick that's the one I need to practice. But anyway you are really great guitar player. Thanks for sharing you video.

  • never seen better

  • Excellent! Truly great sound, personality, and you nailed the solo. Good job on the video effects, and cool guitar too. Great song, great cover.

  • the best version I've ever listened to here on youtube...

I love the sound... really perfect... not to say awesome...

technical style is also perfect and innovative...

    keep on rockin'!

  • nice job what do you think of my version

  • super :)

  • nice played

  • awesome...where did u find the backing track? wel done again
