during the blizzard last February here near Baltimore, my 2005 Element drove through 13" of snow like it wasn't even there! A guy down the street has a newer one, and we kept asking each other, "What snow?"
What I don't understand is, why are there so many people hating on the Honda Ridgeline? It's an affordable truck and it gets the job done, how many v6 trucks out there can actually handle whatever you throw at it? IMO the Ridgeline is a fucking awesome ass piece of machine! I wanna see you put an "Avalanche" through that without chains and watch that junk ass Chevy Avalanche go sliding backwards down that hill there... It would never make it up that without chains!! There is not any 4WD system
Chains are definitely more efficient in deep snow. Studded tires work on ice very well and allow you to go at higher speeds. Chains = Slow & Go well. Studs = Ice and Speed...Thanks. BTW, chains work better on the front of trucks where there is more weight if you are off road.
@wcbowie chains can go 100km/h..... why would you want to be going faster than that in the winter anyway XD. Besides, most chains for vehicles today are more like Cables.
You never but the extra stress of chains (I dont even think their chains, look like cable)on the front end when only using one set.Not to mention that better traction in the front creates a very dangerous fish tail possibility, you can see it trying to do that going up the hill. Please put them on the back where they belong or add another set.One last thing easy on that cremepuff thats just an Accord with a rear end in it.
@jmac5058 You put the chains on the front because these trucks are front wheel drive MOST of the time. The computer controls how much power the AWD system uses on the rear wheels.
I love my plastic bumper Honda. 875km on 81 liters. About 9.3L/100km. Full load and it can rip when needed. Couldn't afford the Avalanche, but nothing wrong with it either. See enough on the roads of both makes to know they are nice. I do like Hondas 4wd VTM system.
@gbsilly Honda struggles to sell these trucks moreso now than ever. They just recently over-turned a decision to stop making them but I don't feel that will last. This "truck" was never taken seriously by guys who generally buy real trucks. The Element didn't fare so well, that one is discontinued.
@bergers5 Man you are totally right. I owned a 2002 Avalanche before my 06' ridge. There both absolutley great trucks and no one can go wrong with either. I prefer the ridge b/c of the luxury and gas mileage.
@asssface2000 Let's evaluate your contribution - you misspelled moron, and your username is "assface2000." Do you honestly expect to be taken seriously in the slightest?
@BackInTheCountry98 Actually, the only thing the Avalanche and the Ridgeline have in common is the flying buttress behind the cab. The two trucks look very similar (I call mine a baby Avalanche) but in reality, the two trucks are very different when you look at the engineering. Both are great trucks.
I thought the manual said not to put chains on the RL? Are those the straps you're supposed to use instead of regular chains?

Ridgeline is really really an amazing vehicule.

chains in the front will mess up your front axle, your better in the long run to but them in the back and put cable chains in the front.

Do you think you would have made it if you were using studded winter tires all around; or are chains more efficient?
