@JDSureshot9292 It was "just" the gun that was used in 4 major wars, and the system that was copied and now appears in "almost every other pistol". It was also the solution to the "stopping power" issue, as smaller calibers didn't provide satisfactory results.
A beautiful piece of machinery by Mr. Browning. Will drop a crackhead in Detroit with little effort. Just imagine that big, slow hunk of lead tearing through a person O_O
so am i correct in saying the opposite reaction of propelling the bullet forward is responsible for the ejection of the shell and loading of new bullet?
@talesofdork yes the recoil from the 230 grain bullet being forced out the barrel at such high velocities creates pretty fierce recoil that is easily capable of propelling the fairly light slide back, since the slide goes back, it pulls all the other stuff back and makes the gun function. this is something called short recoil and is usually used in pistols, though some rifles use a modified version. Most rifles however use some type of either direct gas impingement or gas operated piston system
@talesofdork - almost. When the spring loaded slide racks forward, a new cartridge is stripped off the magazine and a small spring loaded tang inside the slide (the ejector) snaps over the rim of the cartridge (even though it's a rimless cartridge, there is a small rim, set flush to the body). On recoil, as the slide racks backward, that ejector pulls out the cartridge from the barrel - since it's only on one side (the side of the ejection port) the cartridge flys out the second the end clears.
Short recoil, tilting barrel, single action. The perfect military pistol, simple, rugged, powerful. You can't improve on that. The only possible variation is to use a rotating barrel, as some guns do.
@TheJackson4eva and I'm guessing you've never seen satire before? Honestly, I spend my entire life loading 556 rounds into my magazine. However, never once have I seen neon yellow bullets issued like the ones in this video.
@SolidSnake22346 I wouldn't say it's the best, but after 100 years its design hasn't been improved on much. The phrase "don't fix what's not broke" springs to mind here.
Lol, no it's not. Using that logic, my bullets would just shoot out onto the floor when I lock the slide back with a full magazine. Google extractors and ejectors.
@robwtsn106 Actually, neither. Look closely at the rounds, they are 'groove and rim' at the rear. Stop the video at 0:02 seconds. Look closely just to the left of the firing pin. This is the extractor. It has a 'hook' on the end. The casing's rim slides up into the extractor hook. When fired, the slide moves back, the extractor pulls the casing straight back out of the chamber. Not shown, is the ejector. The slide moves back, the casing hits the ejector and is flipped out the ejection port.
The blowback of the slide pushes the spent round backwards, where it is then forced out of the chamber by the spring in the magazine, which pushes the next bullet up, and then the slide returns to regular position, loading the next bullet in the process.
What holds bullet while it is in pistol? I mean, what holds the bullet before you pull the trigger? Why the bullet just fall down throw the pistol's trunk?
@sanekx107 I'm assuming you have little experience with firearms. Watch, then stop the video at 0:04 seconds. Look very closely at the round. The (yellow) casing is a little larger than the (orange) bullet. The barrel is a thick tube drilled through for the bullet's diameter. The end where the bullet enters, the chamber, is drilled out just a little larger to fit the casing. The round is completely surrounded within the chamber and can't move at all.
Nope. While I would love to be able to carry guns, I couldn't stand all the idiots who don't know what the internet is and those guys who are so fat that they need a motorized wheelchair to move around.
It has a fucking huge recoil where even strong guys have trouble firing the gun with one hand. It isnt a shooting range where everything is controlled.
If you dont buy extra beavertails for the .45, 99% of the people using it will mess up their hands which will be bruised which means you have less strength to fire after a few mags.
I really wonder why people like the colt .45 so much.
I haven't fired one, but it is a fact that the design is still popular after 100 years. Most new 1911s do have large beavertails, and it'd be pretty stupid to fire anything that isn't a .22 or .25 with one hand IMO. People like the 1911 for its classic, rugged looks and firepower, and 1911 guys don't trust always-cocked Glocks.
I'd love to, but the law makers are shitting on gun owners ńow here in Finland because some kid shot up his school a few years back. They're also trying to ban semiautomatics for some reason.
yotube I need help, i feel this is a cool design but me and my father do not have the tools to cut like this I want to make an simpler airsoft gun with this type of design. can some one tell me how I could and how the sping at the top that hits the bullet works!!!
@spawnofwheezedog yes newtons third law every reaction imparts an equal and opposite reaction.... just like when you're caught staring at a girls chest, you can be sure that a slap will come as an opposite reaction.
@ThrowingItAway could you explain to me pls what is the force that causes the slide to go back on every shot? i have seen that on AK for example theres a tube that conducts the high pressure gases to the back and that makes the thing go back and cycle.......but in the case of hand guns what makes the slide go back on every shot?what? or how? well the what i guess it would be the gases .....but how? i guess that would be the question.
@dozzy000 when the bullet is fired the gases push the bullet and the casing equally ( newtons third law) and thus the casing is pushed into the slide moving it backward, ejecting the casing and on the forward stroke the next round is loaded. There's a spring on the slide that is specifically made so that the slide moves just far enough back that the next round is loaded, thus reducing the force on your hand...
Would have been more complete if you had shown the side where the extractor is (right side). Now you don't see how the empty shell is extracted, you just see it eject. I'd like to see the extractor hooking the shell. Very nice animation tho.
