  • Its great to see them together again but this pales when compared to vintage footage with Fish in his prime. The years and excess have not been kind to his voice. I really hope they never reform.

  • Hogarth dosent suck at all just get over yourself

  • Hogarth sucks !!! That's it !!!

  • went to watch fish live in st helens on nov 25th ,,wot a performance the man is witty and a genius

  • I love Marillion and I love Fish, so don't get me wrong, but watch them perform "Neverland" within the last few years and maybe you'll agree with me: Hogarth has taken Marillion to fantastic places they never could have gone with Fish in the lead. Regardless, they are both great! Just enjoy the music!

  • re unite now!

  • Why did Fish have to fucking leave Marillion?

  • @captaincomputa Because knowing when to stop is important. If they'd gone on and on they'd be like U2 - once they were legends, now they release non-stop shit.

  • @yottskry12 Have you seen the festival Steve played with Diz Minnitt as The Granmarstonberries? Comfortably Numb is brilliant.

  • Brilliant brought back loads of old memories

I used to be in a band called Tangent we toured with Marillion before they were famous.

  • Some people over there surely cried... I would have!!! :D

  • Great seeing this, like many below I'll always prefer Fish as the person who gave Marillion "the Lyrics and the Personality" that Steve Hogarth hasn't (IMO) been able achieve, even after all these years. Still, a different singer, a different style, not so many memorable albums.. but some good stuff. Still dreaming that they will reunite to do a combination of the best of both worlds!

  • Why did he not hug the bassist? Lol

  • @tekkerz96 I noticed that!?

  • Fish makes it very clear that this is Marillion PLUS Fish singing "Market Square Heroes". Both he and the band are on seemingly friendly terms now, but Fish will not advertise himself as Marillion's lead singer, even for a one-off reunion.

  • Long live the......FISH! Very nice post

  • alright when done go whip out a quicky album...hell put it on protools, don't even have to be an LP ,EP? u guys already have the gear in front of ya. well i can dream can't i?

  • If you ask me, when Fish left the band, Marillion became less progressive and more emo and depressing. This is not to say that there were some songs that Marillion did with fish that were kinda depressing. The difference was that fish had a definite progressive edge to his songwriting skills and singing that Hogarth can't touch with a 10 ft. pole.

  • What a phenomenon they were! It shows in this video.

  • Still Marillion after all these years. They are more than a voice, or music, but a movement of my consciousness and a memory of my childhood. For me, Marillion died in 1988.

  • YEAH

  • Fish, the best :D

  • I have seen Fish several times live, including just a couple of years ago and he can still carry a tune! I have listened to several Hogarth recordings and they just can't hold a candle to Fish era. Fish rules, Hogarth drools! How's that for immature for ya??

  • Why did they give Fish the worst microphone on earth?

  • I think it's mean to say Marillion is nothing without Fish. Personally, I like both Fish and Hogart, but even if I didn't like Hogart, I think all the other musicians deserve our consideration too, because without the instruments, the songs wouldn't be the same either. That said, Fish chose to leave the band, so stop comparing the two and let's thank Hogart for taking his place and not letting a great band die. I'm happy he still has his voice too. Smoking took care of Fish's, it seems. :(

  • Brilliant. Simply, truly and utterly brilliant. First time I've seen this reunion one, didn't even know it had happened. That just made my day. Scratch that, my week.

  • This stage his way too small for that enormous band LOL!

  • FISH IS BRILL

  • @Matchaification sorry, but fish's lyrics are FAR superior to Hogarths.... his pale in comparison, and that EXACTLY why i havnae listed to a marillion song after holidays in eden :)

Fish, is the BEST lyricist i have ever had the pleasure to listen to END OF

  • Marillion will always be Derek William Dick.. They will never be anything but the lead singer. He was the front man and THE MAN. nuff said. nothing comes close.

  • Holy mother of all good things I would have given my left nipple to see this

  • A reunion would be fine. but h is the man now. Both Marillion and Fish moved on and they are fine in their own way. Real fine... love them both (in a not gay way)

  • Steve Hogarth is a cock, who did nothing but slag Fish....WANKER!!!!!!!! It's time for Fish and the boys to reunite permanantly - then we got PROPER Marillion back again..... Hogarth has taken the band down some shit path....

  • @1450davey Yeah what a well educated response. Proper language, as well. Very well said. Oh wait, no it wasn't.

  • Fish will always be my favourite lyricist ever :)

  • Thanks Matt for dragging me to see Marillion a few years back in Philly.

  • Fish was a nice subtraction, that's for sure.

  • dam that guitarist got FAT as hell !!!!

FISH is about 2x as big as the basist too

  • If they want to make some money before they retire and to pay off their houses and depts a REUNION is the only way!!!

They both make ok music. Everybody knows the truth even Marillion and Fis, They have to reunite. Like Faith No More

  • No need to. Marrillion have moved on.

  • And all you critics - Fish may not have the greatest voice in the world, but appreciate his lyrics and comments, he's a very poetic political commentator - how many of you can tell me what "Forgotten Sons" is all about?

  • @martinbrownson fish made the band and without him they just dont sound the same. marillion will always be Derek William Dick. nuff said.

  • @martinbrownson northern ireland....... ived walked the falls road, and each time i did, forgotten sons echoed in my head.........

  • @martinbrownson Northern Ireland if I not mistaken. Great man, great band.

  • @martinbrownson I both agree and disagree with this.... I think his lyrics are utterly superb, however I also think he has an amazing voice, maybe not so much now, but check some older live performances. He is astonishing. The guy is a hero! Pretty sure i know what "forgotten sons" is about too. I'm from Northern Ireland so it kind of figures. :)

  • @martinbrownson forgotten sons was about the institutionalisation of the Northern Ireland troubles in the mid 80s when the death of a soldier on the streets of Belfast was merely a footnote in the following mornings' newspapers. This ain't the marrillion i grew up with by the way. fish has lost all his passion and the keyboards sound like they're being played thru a whoopee cushion

  • @martinbrownson northern ireland of course great son

  • Comment removed

  • Marillion with Fish was a one-off and It's a shame he went on to do his own thing, although is solo stuff was great. They never got the recognition of bands like

Pink Floyd but I think they are close up there, unique.

  • Been a huge fan of both Marillion and Fish for years and who cares who one person thinks is a better singer and all that rubbish! Both have produced amazing music and albums over the years that have given me pleasure and it is just great to see that they have layed their disaggreements aside and are friends again. The rest is not really relevant

  • well put

  • fish unica data italiana 2009 a settmbre a veruno (NO) per informazioni visitare il sito della ver1 musica

  • Grazie bella notizia. Ci vado!

  • not to compare the two bands, but it was the same with van halen....DLR was and is no singer, much like Fish....but what they lack in singing ability, they make up for in aces with charisma.....Very good frontmen, both of 'em.....everybody wanted DLR back in VH and now what happened????they're a parody of their young selves....so marillion fans be content with your new singer.....because you can never go back. why was marillion never marketed in the US? they coulda been huge here.

  • There is no comparison beween Fish and Hogarth vocally. H is a gifted singer with a fantastic voice which seems to improve with age. Fishs' voice has gone. I saw Fish with Marillion many times in the 80's and he was never a great singer live, but the shear force of personality of the man, his stage craft and humour and honesty meant it was something special to see. He chose to leave, so those whinging about H should complain to Fish. BTW, Seasons End and Marbles are masterpieces.....

  • Sorrry Evilrslade,But u are completely WRONG,whether with good voice or Not,Hogart WILL NEVER BE better singer in Maril. than Fish, remember,HE gave to the group identity with his deep voice,in fact after Fish left the Group, they never were the same and stil they are not the same ,they lost the Marill.´s essence, so,for their fans there are 2 stages, Mar. with Fish and Mar. whitout him,I absolutely prefer M. with fish, that´s the Maril.´s gold age.BTW, all albums with Fish are masterpieces

  • you do eh? I prefer marillion with h. so what.

  • Great observations, however I must RESPECTFULLY disagree on vocals. True, Fish's voice has waned (the voice peaks around age 35) but his tonality and timbre WERE SO powerful; he had substance. Hogarth is a "technical" singer. Hes got solid technique, but I find that the voice itself is thin, airy, and just plain whiny... no substance! Season's End was promising, but IMHO it was downhill from there. I stopped buying Marillion CDs altogether after Marbles. Just my opinion, though.

  • Fish was never a great singer?you must be kidding

  • Bloody hell, I've been a Marillion fan since Jester, but Fishs' voice is absolutely shot. He just can't sing any more. It's a real shame since he is such an accomplished frontman, but really, he's embaressing himself. It's nostalgia at its worst and personally I hope there is no reunion tour to spoil the memories past... Marillion are an incredible band with H, who has perhaps the best live voice I ever heard.

  • I dont think I ever listened to any Marillion stuff after Fish left so I coudlnt really say if it is good or not but I do know I loved the stuf fthey did before he left.

It was the soundtrack to growing up in Aylesbury in the 80's

Cant beleive I missed this gig though. When was it?

I hope it sounded better live than it did on the video, but even so it is good to hear.

  • ...and just HOW pointed was that dissing of young Pete? Derek always was an odd git. Awful song.......whatever became of Skyline Drifter?

  • I used to see the band just as they started playing small pubs then onto the Marquee when they signed there first record deal.Fantastic times, ive still got some of the WEB newsletters they used to produce.Fish is the man.

  • What we would all give for reunion tour, please get it together guys

  • Awesome.

What I would like to see is Marillion and or Fish on a Guitar Hero/Rock Band game!

  • Both Fish and Marillion have released great stuff since the split.

Go and buy 13th Star and Marbles.

    Both awesome.

Neverland is probably the best Marillion track ever written, and Fish reached a new high with Open Water.

  • It's all a matter of taste. I gave Marbles a chance, but I just don't like it, not even a bit. For me, it just lacks the roughness and character.

  • Fish is Marillion. Without him they're nothing

  • just watching this brought tears to my eyes. as a teanager marillion were my heroes. i served in bosnia 1996 and Fish played live, i never seen it, it was the worst thing that ever happend to me. No i am not gay or anything like that, i just love the music. my one wish is for a reuion tour. come on boys kiss and make up and lets have a party.

  • I think Marillion with H was great for as long as they could stay musically interesting. and that was... more or less until afraid of sunlight. from that point on it started to get a bit worse.

  • Awesome as hell.........

  • Ah, the sound and production are totally home-grown, but who could really care about that? All I can think about is what they would have done together. Fish and Rothery together were the magic of that band. While it is so great to watch and hear this, it kind of hurts to think about what they did not do in that time.

  • Should be said though that the whole band were very/are good and underrated musicians.

  • i always felt they 'stole' this from PFM's Celebration.Listen to Photos Of Ghosts on Manticore and you'll hear a very heavy influence on the keyboards for the first two Marillion albums. And yep I agree get back together bollox to the Hogarth era!

  • i love the way at 5:26 Pete starts looking for a mic to do the backing vocals

    XD

    long live Marillion

  • I really love this big guy ! i just remember the old day. thx fish

  • Damn. I wish I'd seen this!!!!

So sad when Fish left Marillion. It's the Same thing as Queen without Mercury or Zeppelin without Plant in my opinion. My girlfriend and I were utterly utterly devestated.

And I remember my sister playing seasons end when it came out and me yelling "TURN THAT FUCKIN' SHIT OFF"!!!

I really wish this was a permanent thing.

Marillion with Hogarth is okish, and their best moment was Brave. But even that is not a 'mote on the eye' of anything Fish era.

    FISH FOREVER!

  • Marillion without Fish became like AC/DC without Bon Scott... Selling records, but no soul, no kick, no life... Steve H can' t carry a tune, I saw him live, I tried to give him credit ; no chance, he actually sang out of tune, even insulted the audience (in Montreal, Canada)... He doesn' t have Fish' s range and charisma .RIP Marillion. Much sadness. Well, at least Dereck is alive and doing well ! Ha ! Ha !

  • @Iamfish2 are you serious i think youve got it in reverse its fish who cant carry a tune anymore not hogarth everytime ive seen h singing it has been flawless and im not having a dig a fish either he was my hero

  • This is dragging up the past.I loved Marillion from the word go but i think they are still great and Hogarth is doing a fantastic job.I am looking forward to seeing them live again later in the year. The fish Era was brilliant and Loreley is the best DVD ever but things move on and i am glad they are still going strong.

As for "once the lead singer goes the band is dead"...what about Genesis?

  • I think you just proved that saying, cos Genesis were a poorer band after Peter Gabriel left, although they did became more commercially successful; but most of their later stuff was soulless and bland.

  • Have you listened to Duke,And then there were 3 etc etc?It is just the 'right thing to say' that Genesis were better with Gabriel.total crap.

  • U have a very valid point, Bha - it was just different.

  • I had to laugh when fish left the rest of the lads in the band were asked "will the drummer be taking over the vox then?" - they said highly unlikely

  • All depends on a specific case. Black Sabbath without Ozzy Osbourne was really great, so is Iron Maiden without Paul Di'Anno - but Marillion without Fish is like Metallica without James Hetfield, Nirvana without Kurt Cobain or Queen without Freddie Mercury.

Anyway, I wish I could've seen this concert live.

  • It wasn't great, M3 - i retreated to the Queen's Head post haste

  • We should count ourselves very lucky. We had one awsome band that has split into two different awesome bands, each side has its lesser points, but equally they both have created records that are outstanding. Fish's latest 13th Star really rocks, just like he was 25 again, and Marillions last album has some Huge tracks on it that are outstanding, its just like when your parents divorce, you get twice as many presents at xmas !

  • I have waited years to see happen, would love to see them live again ,now im back in my youth lol

  • I love to see Marillion with Fish again, but I don't think they will ever reunite permanent. Hogarth is doing a great job too, But with fish it would be bettter again :)

  • This is how it should be, yes Fish has a lost his voice a tad bit, but anything is better than Hogarth. Hogarth is 2nd best and will never change. People who worship Hogarth are basically worshipping a entirely different band! Now they lack so much. I bought a Hogarth Cd, listened to it then snapped it. What a waste of money and time.

  • Fail. Hogarth brought us Season's End, Brave, and Marbles. Fish was a good singer, and the first four albums were pretty good. Well, he's gone and Marillion has changed. Most bands do. Hogarth is doing a great job with the band (Okay, except Someplace Else). Just deal with the fact Fish left.

  • Well dont come onto a Fish vid telling people this, you dont know what it was and still is like, Hogarth is crap, face that why dont ya. Once the lead singer is gone the band is finished. Ask any Fish fan they'll tell you the same. You just dont understand or can sympathise with what Fish did for the band. At the end of the day Hogarth is turd and has no where near the musical talent of Fish, deal with that.

  • Just too bad that Fish cannot sing anymore... It's sad too see him having problems singing that simple song even though it's tuned down to allow him to reach the high notes. However, it is nice to see them play together. A great gift to the the old fans and new ones alike but I would not want them back together... The past belongs to the past and H has been doing a great job for many years now.

  • ...well the "size of fish" is provably unreachable.

  • marillion without fish is wrong----this video proves just how good they were together. anyone cannot fill fish's shoes. these guys still rock

  • you should go and see Fish live, then you will understand who was the real power behind Marillion, anybody after him can only be 2nd best

  • Some things are just right Fish and Marillion together is one of those things.

just awesome Thanks for the share Henkt

  • 24 years ago.. chills in Vredenburg Utrecht Holland

    24 years later... tears

    THX

  • from selling out milton keynes bowl too playing in aylesbury market square, well what can ya say, simple they dont give a fuck, cos they rock

  • This is a great song. Thanks for putting this on you tube. I hope that this is a one of. Marillion with Steve is a lot beter.

  • I agree to a point, for today's Marillion Steve is far better - but it was great to see Fish with Marillion again.

  • i didnt know about this! when was this?

  • the one only true Marillion

  • I am happy that guys seem to get a long again after so many years but this is definite proof that Fish's voice gone for good.

  • fucking amazing! I missed these guys.

    awesome!

  • brilliant, makes my hair tingle on the back of my neck

  • when was this ?

  • That was awesome; Not my first choice of song, but that was a long time coming.

  • No reunion is going to happen in this lifetime because Fish can't sing anymore...Hogarth is Pavarotti compared to Fish.

  • Fish is awesome. I like Hogarth Marillion BUT Fish Marillion was so sweet!

  • This is awesome!!

  • the shakespeare of rock rocks!

  • holy crap how cool
