  • Okay but thats china, there countries norms are much different from the USA.

Also just because they make products for microsoft doesnt mean its microsoft's doing. Its not micorosft, Google is the evil one.

  • JUST wait till Windows 8 arrives, yeah try and match that

  • @poojkhgf

    Whahahahhahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahhahahahaahahaahahahaha *gasp* .... HAHAHAHAhahaahaHAHAHAhahahahaahahahahahaa,lolzrofl GTFO!!

  • Bill Gates made 14 accounts

  • @ElBundaIIOldSkool you can't possibly prove that

  • Man i feel bad for those factory workers, it makes you appericiate what you have.

  • @russjr08 Very true. I have been complaining about my lack of sleep while at work and these kids work 15-16hours/day, 65cents/hour and no freedom. I should call myself lucky compare to those workers.

  • AAAAhhhhh - somebuddy please postpack him some more punguins! (the only 2 I know or off on missions)

  • @steamgamesonlinux I've got more, I Just don't have them all in the videos (even fewer in videos now)

  • @thisweekinlinux What video editing software do you use?

  • @poachman97 I use Kdenlive

  • can you please audio normalize your audio at the start logo please. I watch your vids earlie hours of the morning so blasting out my neighbors is not good.

  • @fireicer I've done a lot of work in the 7 months since this video was made. I believe in my newer videos, the volume of the main video should be very close to the volume of the intro.

    Sorry about that!

  • @thisweekinlinux not a problem my good man thanks for vid info anyway its good stuff

  • @thisweekinlinux Yep I only have the volume issue in your older videos. I wish I knew about these ages(months) ago. I would have switched to Linux sooner. C'est la vie

  • @Capa359 thanks a lot!

  • DO you record with your ubuntu and edit?

Hey I like ubuntu but damn man, I need to make my blasting audio and the default audio driver sucks.. help? :(

  • @madzane94 I do record/edit with Linux. When I shot this episode, I think I was using Ubuntu, but now I use Arch Linux.

If you're having issues with Ubuntu's audio levels, you might try going to a terminal and run alsamixer to see if your audio settings are turned down or something.

  • It's so easy to port steam to linux if they've done it on mac os. mac os is built on linux so i don't know why it's not ported yet

  • @mrsocksman mac os based on bsd not linux

  • @aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa78815 actually, it's based on darwin

  • what is the program on '0:23' ? and how i can install it?

  • @SayaYunani It's Lightworks Video Editor, and it isn't available for download yet. The company is supposed to be open sourcing it, but it's been over 6 months, and they haven't said a word more about it.

  • Android & Chrome = Google Big Brother

  • Steam on Linux would be cool, but with no games native to it, good luck waiting for that... Android sucks I tried it and its a big fat fail, went back to my Iphone... and as much as I love Linux I think Wil Wheaton is retarded...

  • @NasherDezno

Game developers need to get off their big butt and support the most popular distro's like Ubuntu.

  • I have Linux on my DS and when I get a Wii I'll put it on there too.

And I have a laptop for it, but for gaming I have a Windows PC.

  • I just found out about this show and am loving it (very informative). Plus the big bang theory mention was very cool to hear (as well as Wheaton's success with linux) as I just started watching the big bang theory.

  • @TheKaycen Thanks very much! I'm a big fan of The Big Bang Theory, and Wil Wheaton is a geek idol :)

  • @thisweekinlinux I think the LightWorks video editor looks gorgeous! Have you heard of any new news on it lately? :) Thanks

  • @Synicade actually just talked about it in last week's news video. It's coming to Windows and Mac open source by the end of this year, but sometime late 2011 for Linux. :/

  • @thisweekinlinux Aww, that's sad I'm actually dual booting Vista & Ubuntu, so I'll try it on Vista

I'll just keep using Cinelerra 'till then ;p

  • @Synicade I like Kdenlive. it's what I use for all my videos

  • almost all chinese companies do that.

There are millions of factories there, they all work the same hours and yes they all get shitty lives. they close this factory or ask them for more money and those people are out of a job.

If you have never been to china, or dont understand what goes on there, best that u do research first.

im sure you dont want those 16 17 yearolds out of jobs right?

  • @teelineuk that's pretty rough. Sadly, I've never been to China, but I was just reporting on what was in that week's news.

No, I definitely don't want those people out of jobs, it would be nice if the companies funding those sweatshops would shell out a few bucks more to help though.

  • @thisweekinlinux .

Yeah i know, i dont like it either but its hard to understand what its like for those people. They are happy to have that job at least they can make money. Bad on microsoft but then im sure some of the CDs that ubuntu are printed on are used on CD made by much younger people.

This world is evil. not just microsoft!!

    全世界都是這樣!

  • @teelineuk I'm not sure about Ubuntu, I think Shuttleworth would have a problem with doing things that way. However, you're very much right. I think I mentioned in the video that several companies have their products manufactured in that same factory, such as Logitech.

  • @teelineuk dude save that kind of ranting for political blogs and such, not on a Linux/computer blog/channel. this is Not the place for that.

  • @xpawnrip yup. :) Wish the titles could be longer, because Lightworks should definitely be in this one.

  • Microsoft is evil, but Apple is even eviler.

  • @NinjaJedi Apple is evil in a different way.

Realistically, most corporations are evil in some way.

  • @thisweekinlinux

    not google :D ...

  • @NeverSCARED94 they may or may not be. So far their intentions seem to be pure, but you just never know. (and I did preface what I said with "most" corporations :P )

  • Steam on linux = quite a step. It is great for us TF2 and HL2 modders, who prefer linux, but use windows because it is more accessable. Even if it is released. Starcraft 2 is still so close to me, I wouldn't give up windows until Blizzard releases official linux installers. I wouldnt be surprised, as the Mac OS is based on virtually the same kernal as linux. And blizzard is all about getting the WoW sub count even higher.

  • you are very formal yet interesting to hear and watch, good job and keep up the hard work mate : ) (Y)

    also,

have you tried the new mint 9 yet ?

not only is it faster then ever and has better graphics etc, it is LTS :D!

  • @thetest2000 Thanks a lot, and yes, I have tried the new mint 9! I actually had it installed on my laptop until yesterday, and I did a review of it several weeks ago. Very impressive.

  • @asianboyJhC Thank you very much! I've actually already applied, just waiting to hear back. Being in the US, there's a lot more competition than in other parts of the world, so it's entirely possible I won't hear anything for months and months.

  • Re: Lightworks video editor, this is indeed good news. Slashdot had an article on this on 04/14/2010. Thanks for posting about this news.

The makers of VLC are also working on a video editor called, "VideoLAN Media Creator", mentioned on Slashdot on 12/23/2009.

  • @nopcbinfishoilplz I'm definitely excited about Lightworks, and I've mentioned VLMC a while back. It looks ok, but I don't know how it will fare against other editors like Kdenlive, Cinelerra, and hopefully Lightworks.

  • how do you get the newest steam (the new update) to run under wine? i can't get it to work. :S (sorry for my crappy english) :P

  • @MrSebzi I just looked in the Wine AppDB. From what it says, make sure you have the newest version of Wine, then run "winecfg" from the terminal and set your Windows type to "Windows 7". After that it should run (hopefully). I haven't tried yet.

  • @thisweekinlinux ok thx ;) for youre help

  • @thisweekinlinux it worked :D thx again

  • @MrSebzi Awesome! Good to know, since I'll probably be installing Steam again soon. Have a great day!

  • @thisweekinlinux u 2 :)

  • can you tell us when it open sources??

  • @AndresBarrios1990 I'm definitely keeping my eye on it.

  • Great news! Would be nice to run Steam on Linux. Android on an iPhone doesn't sound like a great idea..it sounds buggy and unstable to me. I'm still deciding whether to get an iPhone or Android. I was aiming at Android the most cause of the open source apps and linux os.

  • @H4x0r18 Steam on Linux does sound exciting.

The video of Android on the iPhone does look very buggy, and I could see it being problematic in the long run (iPhone OS updates in particular).

However, if the guy can get it stable, it's another option for those of us who have already purchased iPhones and would like to try out Android.

  • I think Logitech does the same thing and they make good products.

  • @commodore256 According to a guy on Slashdot: "KYE factory in China, which manufactures computer mice and webcams for Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, Samsung, Best Buy, Foxconn, Acer, Logitech, ASUS and other US companies."

So yeah, MS is just the biggest name there.

I'm definitely not faulting the products. I've got several MS products, including a keyboard and my new webcam, and they're very decent. I've got a handful of Logitech mice too, very good stuff.

  • It's amazing how good ubuntu works out of the box sometimes, last week a laptop with windows vista came in with a virus called "security tool" which made it impossible to navigate. Instead of going to safe mode I prefer just putting in my usb pendrive with Ubuntu on it. It was amazing how everything just worked, compiz by default (intel integrated graphics), wireless worked without problems, battery, etc. Pretty much lost count on how many things I fixed in a Ubuntu live session :)

  • @maroon5rule I'm so glad that I don't really work in the Windows desktop support world anymore. I can't fault people who do, though.

  • @thisweekinlinux Oh it's not my job though :D, but my dad regularly repares computers and laptops as some kind of extra job, but he's more of a web designer so in some cases concerning system security he's just lost. I'm still in college studying programming and system administration, mainly. I do agree, I don't enjoy fixing windows computers, unless a live cd can fix the issue. Working on windows irritates me more day by day since Ubuntu turned into my desktop OS

  • @maroon5rule Ahh, very cool. Pretty much every job I've worked up to the one I've got now involved fixing Windows PCs or Windows servers. Now I'm actually creating websites and writing programs. Pity it's all using Microsoft languages. :(

  • @thisweekinlinux Can't say I'm a fan of microsoft languages either, I'm getting visual basic at school lately, i admit that it's an easy language, but they also left away generally accepted logic, Converting a double to integer actually rounds up if its closer to that number or passing a class is better using ByVal, since I'm into C++, this isn't really logical :D

  • @maroon5rule I haven't had to use Visual Basic in a very long time, but C# is pretty rough as well.

  • I love your news. Can you increase the volume? THanks.

  • @plengo Wow, it is kinda quiet. I'll see what I can do for future videos, thanks for asking!

  • dude i want to be like you when i get old. :O

  • @JohnPortfolio2010 Thanks, I think... :) I guess I just don't feel old yet.

  • @thisweekinlinux i meant older. Sorry don't take offence.

  • @JohnPortfolio2010 Nah, no offense taken. It's just odd for me to think of myself as being older than people. Every place I've ever worked, I'm always the youngest (I'm 27)

  • @thisweekinlinux oh yeah well haha, i just turned 18 in January. Everyone i know is usually older then me. i guess when i say i statement like "i want to be like you when i get older" i am referring to getting my life in order and able have a stable career. Still twil, i think its really cool that you spend your time teaching us about random linux things on your free time. its really inspiring.

  • @JohnPortfolio2010 Thanks so much! I really wish I could make a career out of this, and I hope that someday I can find a career where I actually get to use Linux or develop software for Linux. Until that day I'm biding my time in the Windows world. :(

  • Steam for linux will be so amazing!!.

I really hope it will work!

  • @TheHornyDevill Fingers crossed, dude. :)

  • You forgot to meantion that Ubuntu 10.04 RC came out on thursday. :)

  • @QueeeeenZ You're absolutely right! I'm definitely going to be talking about (if not doing a full review of) 10.04 when it releases next week though. :) Thanks for watching!

  • how is this at the top?

And Mac osx is better then linux.

  • @muk546 To each his own. This video and my channel are about Linux. Thanks for watching anyway. :)

  • @muk546

Mac is just another M$, or even worse.

Think of Itune. Apple is going monopoly wherever he can.

Dude, that's just not our philosophy and you are not our type.

  • if steam worked on linux lol what games we will play its still microsot games

  • @strike4may as far as I know, Microsoft doesn't make any of the games distributed through steam, so if the developers are rebuilding the games to work on Mac, it should be a small matter to make them work on Linux, since they're both OpenGL.

  • If you start talking any faster, the police will come and give you a speeding ticket.... :)

  • @cantonsen07 point taken. :P I'll see what I can do for next time.

  • I had I problem with my scanner on Mac OS X 10.6 but, it turned out that there was a new easier way to scan!

  • @TheSushiDude cool. a new scanning utility in OSX?

  • @thisweekinlinux Something like that, I will send you something showing how to scan when I get home.

  • @TheSushiDude I don't actually have a scanner or a Mac, but thanks!

  • OMG!!!!

    STEAM on linux???

when that happenz, microsoft will have a real big problem!

  • @sosroli :) not necessarily a big problem. just the beginning of something new for linux

  • Great info - thats a lot in just 3 minutes!

  • @stmpoodle Thanks a ton! I really thought it was going to be longer... the original was 18 minutes. Lots of retakes and cutting.

  • this "microsoft is evil" think is one think that make us Linux users look kinda stupid to everybody! they are a corporation like anyone else! you buy from them if you want!

  • @emaroja They are a corporation, yes, but there are other corporations that go out of their way to NOT be evil. Hell, Google's slogan is "Don't be evil".

  • microsoft is evillllll! haha and woot for steam on llinux :D great show bro, packed with news :)

  • @nolanhester1 Thanks!

  • I don't know if I actually want steam on linux since I don't use it on windows either. I also have not been able to find out how a store would increase compatability. The only thing I have ''bought'' through steam was Dirt2 but that was since I had a coupon for it.

  • @roflschofel the way I see it, it's a first step toward gaming on Linux. if other companies see Steam putting the effort into Linux clients, they might do the same.

  • amazing video especially the last story with wil wheaton that was cool cause on the show he appears to a windows user hardcore

  • @macielightfoot thanks! I'll have to go back and rewatch the episodes he's been in, I don't recall him talking about computers.

  • The new video editor looks really interesting.. I'm sure a lot of people have been missing a really sleek looking, easy to use, powerful video editor for Linux.. I know I have...

  • @cfm247 If it's half as good as it looks, it will be amazing.

  • yea ive heard alot about steam going to linux,i cannot wait for this

  • @vipor29 I'm thoroughly excited. :)

  • @scouser73ubuntu Wil has definitely grown up quite a bit, and he's making a great niche for himself in the geek community.

  • @FlamingLinux :) definitely not news

  • @ThingsontheWeb realistically, MS is no more evil today than they were yesterday.

  • @revsoldest1 Thanks, dude!

  • @abir12919 hopefully they'll mention it in an episode. :P I'm glad you enjoyed the episode!

  • The Big Bang Theory is awesome!

"WHEAAAATON!!!!! WHEAAAATON!!!!!" - such a funny scene. I love how Sheldon keeps quoting Wrath of Khan; even though Will Wheaton wasn't part of that film.

  • @geekfreackz Wheaton on TBBT is one of the best things ever. It's about on par with him joining the cast of The Guild (if you haven't seen it, or him in it, it's amazing!)

  • I saw the Phoronix article last night... I almost literally jumped for joy, but everyone else was sleeping haha...

  • @librano I was extremely pleased, and I will be moreso when it actually comes to Linux. :)

  • Wow, you where going at it as if it was Speed Talking Olympics, my head hurts. Running out of HD space?... the contence of this video could have easaly been 4 minutes if you've added some pauses and talked a little slower. Anyway, love your videos! :)

  • @FatLingon This one was possibly a little faster than my usual ones. What you don't see is that it was actually 18 minutes recorded, because I had to do several takes per story/line to get them right, so quite a few of the sections were filmed 6 or 7 times, and the pauses are cut out to maintain a constant flow of information.

Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoy my videos!

  • Microsoft had really noting to do with that sweatshop.

I can just take a guess that over half the stuff you own made in sweatshops in some form or another.(like your iphone)

  • @roboticterror From what I've read, MS is "investigating" it. Just because lots of things are made in China doesn't mean they're made in sweatshops. The MS story had to do with the conditions the workers were made to work in.

  • Wil Wheaton defiled Sheldon's 'spot'. Oh the horror. This just in Microsoft is ev....why do you give me this crap?

  • @TheWrinkledCheese yeah, I wouldn't have mentioned the MS stuff, but it seemed every Linux-related news outlet was covering it, so it was definitely newsworthy.

  • well steam is on linux but only 3rd party. its called play on linux. anyway i have already have steam!

  • @JetJL Yeah, I've played Steam on linux using Wine too. It's definitely an alternative, but nothing beats playing natively.

  • I'm surprised that steam doesn't have some kind of direct3d-exclusive deal?

  • @xyzoneon apparently they don't, since they're going to Mac. :) hopefully the Linux client goes through with games eventually...

  • I'm using Steam on Wine 24/7 so a native client would be nice. :)

  • @Pallerous I've used Steam with Wine quite a bit before, but it would definitely be nice to have a native client with native games.

  • @TheLinuxWizKid well, he's also Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation, an accomplished author, D&D player, father, and major geek (self-professed), and, of course, my idol. :)

  • @thisweekinlinux Wil also once was a huge Linux advocate but eventually fell in love with Apple's OSX. Ironically, my scanner stopped working in Linux since Sane 1.0.20 came out. I have to downgrade to 1.0.19!

  • First!!!

  • @nagrom97 aww, but I wanted to be first! :P
