  • wow shug...... lonesome dove ? hell yah, and younailed it ! EPIC !

  • nice vid, love your channel, circus runs in our family, some of my family worked the high wire and animal acts in the old Barnum and bailey circus, the greatest was billed as tinkerbell, she was great, they retired to Oregon city with there elephants and memories, any how this is about the pulk, i saw this vid before and pulks before, so i built one, i will attach a vid of me making it, i use a pair of grand Alaskan snowshoes here, for up hill work, i just loosen the straps and

  • poke the toe of my boot out further, that way ya can dig in better. your right the old wood ones really float ya well, never liked the new fangled ones, had my ga's for almost 30 years, love the skeg idea, when i took my pulk out it liked to slide, so i definitely will be putting a skeg on, i think tho, i will put two, one on each side. thanks for all the vids and the fun, every time i watch one of yours, it sends me back to the circus. thanks. oh yea, where can ya get a uni in mn?

  • @edwyrd They do float the best. You'll like a skeg on the pulk. Make it removable....it is a good option.

Most bike stores carry a uni or two. Or go to unicycledotcom.

  • @edwyrd Circus was here last weekend We had friends in it. Had a free roll.

  • @shugemery we don't make it to the shrine much, with 9 kids, we don't have enough alfalfa!, let me guess, the amazing one wheel wizard, right? we do make it to the Carson and Barnes every time it comes thru. they give out free tickets for kids with a full admission, i hope it comes this year, my youngest is 4 now (mason), he is better able to appreciate it and will love it. i am hoping i can talk us into the back yard so he can see how it all works. love your vids, thanks, Edwyrd.

  • I have been a month without internet.Been busy catching up on videos. I 've been saving yours for last, like dessert.

  • @72Ditch Man ....I feel like banana pudding and I like it!!!

  • @shugemery Whooo Buddy! I just noticed @7:30 Your pulk kinda slid off track.Just thought having two rudders or Skags One bolted to the rear on each side might give a little more stability teaversing an angle like that Buddy,Carlton

  • @tylerdurden1971 I may give that a shot next year.

  • @shugemery Right On Brother nice To Have Ya Back.Whoooo Buddy!

  • GREAT video, as usual!! I love the rudder idea. I'm gonna have to try that out!

One question.... what color pants does the Incredible Pulk wear?

  • @creativeKayt Purple pleated pants!!!!

    Thanks Katy

  • SHUG SHUG SHUG! Just got back from the Northwoods in the Minnesota BWCAW. We camped, shoed and skiied for a week on Flash, Secret, Blackstone & Snowbank, Moose Lakes. Spent 4 nights in my hammock & the ground dwellers (gotta love 'em) thought I was crazy. Know what I said? "Whoo Buddy!" Today (back in Tennessee) I snowshoed and pulled a pulk to Clingmans Dome (highest point in Tennessee 6,593') in 3' of snow. I wore my traditional shoes and pulled a Emsco (Paris) Expedition! Splendid!

  • @hikewithjeff Now that is a right goodie!!!!

  • Enjoy all the R & D that you do on your equipment Shug and then pass it along to the rest of us. It certainly gives us all something to think about before we step out into mother natures landscape on our own. Much appriciated Sir!

  • @HanaleiSurfrider Well .... it fills the off time for me in a fun way!

  • I made a pair traditional snowshoes like the ones you're wearing in this video! I took a class at a local metropark. I've avoided winter camping, not because I don't like snow or the cold - I do - but because you have to carry so much more stuff. But with a pulk, I wouldn't have to carry it on my back. This will definitely turn me into a winter camper! Thanks, Shug! Great video, as always. These companies should hire you as their marketing guru!

  • @earlymusicus Yeah .... they should!!!!! Naw ... I just put it out there as I know viewers will ask so I am saving myself work!

  • i like how you test your new products before going far from home. i always say 'i'd rather be 30 ft from the house and have a *Wilderness Emergency* than 30 miles :) love your videos Shug, always informative and uplifting!

  • @danderson8127 Also .... film fodder!

    Thanks.

  • Another awesome video Shug!

  • @jasonklass Fun in the snow makes the pulk go.

    Many thanks Jason.

  • Very nice, I can't' do any pulk pulling while deployed in the desert.....wait a minute, a pulk in the sand.....now there is an idea. I love your videos Shug, can't wait to get back to the states and pull the pulk in the Rockies hahaha. Thanks for sharing.

  • @hitmanhite Too much pulk pullin' is very bad for you!!!!!!

  • Those MSR shoes look like something Batman would wear. :)

  • @tuxinduluth He loaned 'em to me.......

    Your right. They do.

  • Well Shug you've done it again, great video. Thanks for doing these, they really help. Love the lonesome pulk cameo's. :)

    Thanks, Chaindrivecharlie.

  • @chaindrivecharlie Thankee there feller. I love the ol' Lonesome Dove.

  • Hey Shug I love the videos. I am a summer hammock camper and have learned a lot about winter camping from the vids. Keep up the great work. This has nothing to do with this video but where do you buy your down. I am want to make my self an under quilt to give the winter hammock camping a try. Thank you, Jason

  • @frankllynn

Google HammockGear and you will find the down source.

But till then a couple of pads stacked will get you out for winter.....

  • For a gram counter like you, Shug (at least summer Shug is), I'm surprised you didn't throw that pulk on a hanging fish scale and find it's weight. Curious, how much you pulling there in the empty pulk? Very fine video, once again, Shug.

  • @coolkayaker1 I reckon I just do not want to know. Feels pretty light but I will have to find out the weight now!!!

  • Shüg, you have an excellent accent, as illustrated in your two-syllable pronunciation of gree-up. Awesome. Great video that teaches me all about pulkin' USA.

  • @kc7fys The south meets Minnesota. Makes me an exotic up here!

  • Awesome video bud, Wow small world I just bought the same sled and pulk system, and It works great up here in the northern Maine woods. But I do love the snowshoes I use the traditional ones but they don't have the grippers like the rei's. Have fun and go amping heading out myself tomorrow I will vid the excursion for hammock forums and ya

  • @fistratedfisher Have a terrific jaunt in the piney wood 0' Maine!

  • Sure beats my old piece of tin roof with twine strung through it that I used to pull firewood out of the AK woods. Also, @ mythic89 I moved from GA to AK with no prompting from a broad, but I met a NM dame there and now we're in Colorful CO. It hit the negatives tonight finally and that was a reason to party. Some people are just born for the cold.

  • @3DTWorkshop I love the tin with twine. I may go back to that!!!!

  • I knew quite a few skegs in high school . I wanted to ask you how you went from North Carolina all the esy to Minnesota by the way, was it for a gal ?

  • @mythic89 T'was a gal ... the one I am married to. I have really grown to love it here. Though I will always be different.

  • Never heard of a pulk till now, I feel educated! Keep up the good work Shug

  • @mwig50 Ahhhh ... edumacation is goodly!

  • nice set up, nice tunes. You must be particularly proud of your perfect pulk pulling package.

  • @hadleyjack Pleasantly pleased at performance and pull .

  • Nice video. I really like your hammock segments. What model camera do you use in such cold weather conditions? Have you thought about posting a video on making your own tarp, hammock, or over/under quilt?

  • @saalford127 Same camera I always use ...Canon Powershot. I keep it in a pocket against my body.

As to sewing videos ..... I shy away from those kind of how-tos. Too many questions to answer and when I sew it takes all my focus!!!!

    Thankee and Happy New Year.

  • just a thought... a skeg mounted to each outside edge might enable removing them just by slipping a hand down the inside instead of unloading, and on sides of hills if it leaned over one skeg should always be in the snow, that's the theory anyways. Great video as usual, you make the cold look like fun :-)

  • @deanznz A fine idea!

  • I like your pulk and that fin is probably working very good in powdery-snow.

Is it easy to disassemble it?

In case you get on a harder track the fin will probably make it more difficult to pull the pulk and therefore it would be great if it was easy to take away.

  • @petertjarnlund It removes easily with the wingnut bolts.... just have to unload the pulk.

  • Foggy Mountain Breakdown!!!

  • @shartasticful Whoooo!!!

  • The MSR snowshoes really shine in the deep bush. When wearing traditional snowshoes I carefully pick my way through the bush, but with my MSR's I charge headlong forwards. Willows and sap,Inge need not be avoided, that front upsweep tramples them underfoot :)

  • @canadianvirgil Too right on that!

  • You rock it! You make the midwest so fun!

  • I am keen on simple and clever, and I think you have a winner with your pulk. Thanks for sharing your assembly. Really cool! Hope you find some time to get out with it!

  • @dlilngn Thanks. Simple. Good.

Hope to get out in a week or so for a few nights. Kid home from College now.... want to see them all you can!!!!

  • Happy New Year Shug!!!

    MikeSr39

  • @MikeSr39 It's ketchup garlic dip and Fritos for us.... A good one to you as well.

  • Hey! don't tease us! If you are going to do a skit, do it! I wanna see the full lonesome pulk episode! C'mon. It may bring you a whole different set of subscribers! Happy New Year, Shug.

  • @TheAmishking It is in production. Hard casting Blue Duck......

  • More snow on the way!!!!!!!!!

  • Whoo Buddy! Love your videos and glad to have you in the hikers forum!

  • @HikersForum I represent the upper Midwest .... lotta pressure!!!!!!!

  • I have a pair of the MSR's with large tails. I love 'em!

When you have time, check out our "Dawg Sled" video?

  • @MrBillTroop73 I like that sled ... saw it a while ago. I even left a comment!!!

  • @shugemery LOL, my old brain didnt remember! Thanks Shug!

  • Fun to watch while sitting here by the nice, warm fireplace. I guess it you gotta be out in that stuff, that's the way to go. Love that "Foggy Mountain Breakdown."

  • @sraike Fire..... nice. Thanks on the tune. Just jamming....

  • makes me want to make one for the beach here in SC!

  • @ridebks Oil that bottom up ...... of the pulk I mean.

  • @EconoChallenge I was hoping that shot would work .... glad it did for you. Happy New Year.

  • HA ... great my friend ... absolutely Great ... and to quote our friend Gus "A man who wouldn't cheat for a pulk don't want one bad enough" ... err ... something like that anyway! Most excellent video pal. Could neat new techniques ... even "learnt me a thing or two" .... you da man Shug ... you da man!

  • @RallohE Thanks .... I need a better hat and some more Gus-study........

  • @shugemery Don't seeing you need much pal ... but dang ... it's mighty fine thing to have to be studying!

  • @RallohE Aerial and her boyfriend were watching Lonesome Dove over the Holidays! Proud.

  • i was thinking today while i was driving to a job. do you have a place you can download your music? i really enjoy the small clips and i would love to have a whole album of it. thanks shug. glad to see you back in winter mode.

  • @chucks970 I don't .... they are just us jamming!

  • Looks like a fantastic day great videp keep posting Shug

  • @hadd13 Was a fine couple of days!

  • You could probly haul a lot of those famous BBQ ribs in that thing. "Don't Shug at a pig in a Pulk!"

  • @TribTrekker Haaaa..... I like it.

  • Love the snow shoes ....I have an old wooden pair that was given to me from my grandfather there older than me LOL I used them but I'm afraid to wreck'em but I did get a new pair this year the one's with the aluminum tubing around it and so did my son ...should be fun ..I hope to get more snow ;-)

When you had the cam on the sled brought back memories of getting towed around Thanks for that.

  • @brutallindigo The Pulk POV Cam! Glad it provoked memories.

  • Love Gene Hackman at the woodpile and the pulk-cam!

  • @francescaloves2hike Too good .... supposed to be Duvall as Gus McCrae but Hackman is a favorite of mine.

As I have aged I get compared to him in looks from time to time. Breaks my heart....Haaaa

  • every time i see your video in my sub box i get so happy...... so what i tryin to say is KEEP MAKIN THIS VIDEOS

  • @book630book Mighty kind of ye'........ I will keep going.

  • @MBlackford100 I always factor in fun........

  • Love these videos.

  • @KevinLizAndLife I kindly say thanks.

  • Shug... Good to see you survived the Christmas celebration in true form. I'm sitting here in the nearly sunny south (temps in the 60 to 70 range). I enjoy seeing the frozen north from time to time. You guys sure got it this year with all the bad weather and snow. Good camping weather no doubt.

    Hav-a-goodun

  • @1timby We got 39º and rain today ....20 tonight. Slickery......

  • I loves me a pulled pulk sandwich! AWESOME!

  • @spence0324 Haaaa.... me to. With slaw, fiberglass and a white bun!!!!

  • haha! Awesome editing shug! That was really good. I think you're about the only dude on youtube who can be so goofy yet still provide such a good review. Makes me want to go do some pulk pullin. We're getting 4 feet of snow right now in north and east AZ...whoooo buddy!

  • @Patriot36 It is a fine line ... if I do all tech talk I bore myself!

Whoooooo .... I would love that snow.

  • Shug that is great work mate, i only wish the snow stayed long enough for me to do my MODs, definately convinced on the poles now!!

    nice stuff mate

P.S. you know you have to ride the sled, done the same in my video lol

  • @wall2rockclimber We have rain today!!! Messing up the snow.....

    Gotta ride for sure.

  • just in time. i am in the process of designing one from scratch. i like the addition of fins. i was thinking of using an extra set of ski poles for the pulkpoles. then they could be used as emergency poles should something happen or for spare set of tarp poles when not pulking or at camp site. what do you think, should i just go with fiberglass poles instead? if so how long should they be? im 6'2" if that matters for length of poles. thanks...

  • @FixedByDoc You could do that ... I'd like to see solution.

    Mine are 6'

  • The camera shots from the pulk were great! It was like taking a ride on the ol Shug train. Good stuff buddy

  • @CampfireTalk I too like them....... ya' never know how shots will pan out. Thankee.

  • You rock Shug. Thanks for making my morning.

  • @Singletracklover I bow here Feller!

  • Awesome (Dove) gear review of your very fine pulk Shug! I enjoyed the comparison between your MSRs and the traditional snowshoes. Does Gus wear the Denalis and Woodrow wear the classics? I know Gus gets the pulk. Have a great New Year!

  • @wawhiker Woodrow is so stubborn that he still post-holes!

  • Thanks again Shug. Great video and explanation. I really got a feel for what it be like. I don't have much snow experience so appreciate it!!

  • @btsseeker Cool ... I tried to be specific...... tough for me. I want to goof!!!

  • I want a pulk! Only mine would need some off-road tires because we still have no snow yet. Awesome shug! Happy New Year!

  • @CrazyTaileZ You need the Dixon Roller Pack....

  • Shug, looks like you lifted someones bed liner from an itty bitty truck. LOL

  • @kyletango Haaaa.... my Tonka is missing one!

  • Great stuff I need to get snow again and try mine since I moved my poles since first try , also I may try the fins on both sides. It is uncanny shug how you can come up with material for your videos like how you thru Gus in there

  • @medicjimr i was thinking two fins as well for mine. our snow is melting off here though. its nearly 40* and getting warmer. was going to make mine this weekend but may hold off.

  • @FixedByDoc I may extend the length of my skeg a bit down the road.

  • @medicjimr Been wanting to do Gus but need to practice him more. Woodrow too. and Pea-eye. And Newt.

  • Pulk Fiction :)

  • @ArtisanTony Meets Pulk Friction!

  • I like the hat and the mustache :-)

    Cheers

  • @ekhaat I felt like Tom Sellack.......

  • Well Woodrow someone has to have the fun around here!

Very nice. Us Tennessee fellas just dont get the whole pulk snow shoe thing very much.
