nice vid, love your channel, circus runs in our family, some of my family worked the high wire and animal acts in the old Barnum and bailey circus, the greatest was billed as tinkerbell, she was great, they retired to Oregon city with there elephants and memories, any how this is about the pulk, i saw this vid before and pulks before, so i built one, i will attach a vid of me making it, i use a pair of grand Alaskan snowshoes here, for up hill work, i just loosen the straps and
poke the toe of my boot out further, that way ya can dig in better. your right the old wood ones really float ya well, never liked the new fangled ones, had my ga's for almost 30 years, love the skeg idea, when i took my pulk out it liked to slide, so i definitely will be putting a skeg on, i think tho, i will put two, one on each side. thanks for all the vids and the fun, every time i watch one of yours, it sends me back to the circus. thanks. oh yea, where can ya get a uni in mn?
@shugemery we don't make it to the shrine much, with 9 kids, we don't have enough alfalfa!, let me guess, the amazing one wheel wizard, right? we do make it to the Carson and Barnes every time it comes thru. they give out free tickets for kids with a full admission, i hope it comes this year, my youngest is 4 now (mason), he is better able to appreciate it and will love it. i am hoping i can talk us into the back yard so he can see how it all works. love your vids, thanks, Edwyrd.
@shugemery Whooo Buddy! I just noticed @7:30 Your pulk kinda slid off track.Just thought having two rudders or Skags One bolted to the rear on each side might give a little more stability teaversing an angle like that Buddy,Carlton
SHUG SHUG SHUG! Just got back from the Northwoods in the Minnesota BWCAW. We camped, shoed and skiied for a week on Flash, Secret, Blackstone & Snowbank, Moose Lakes. Spent 4 nights in my hammock & the ground dwellers (gotta love 'em) thought I was crazy. Know what I said? "Whoo Buddy!" Today (back in Tennessee) I snowshoed and pulled a pulk to Clingmans Dome (highest point in Tennessee 6,593') in 3' of snow. I wore my traditional shoes and pulled a Emsco (Paris) Expedition! Splendid!
Enjoy all the R & D that you do on your equipment Shug and then pass it along to the rest of us. It certainly gives us all something to think about before we step out into mother natures landscape on our own. Much appriciated Sir!
I made a pair traditional snowshoes like the ones you're wearing in this video! I took a class at a local metropark. I've avoided winter camping, not because I don't like snow or the cold - I do - but because you have to carry so much more stuff. But with a pulk, I wouldn't have to carry it on my back. This will definitely turn me into a winter camper! Thanks, Shug! Great video, as always. These companies should hire you as their marketing guru!
i like how you test your new products before going far from home. i always say 'i'd rather be 30 ft from the house and have a *Wilderness Emergency* than 30 miles :) love your videos Shug, always informative and uplifting!
Very nice, I can't' do any pulk pulling while deployed in the desert.....wait a minute, a pulk in the sand.....now there is an idea. I love your videos Shug, can't wait to get back to the states and pull the pulk in the Rockies hahaha. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Shug I love the videos. I am a summer hammock camper and have learned a lot about winter camping from the vids. Keep up the great work. This has nothing to do with this video but where do you buy your down. I am want to make my self an under quilt to give the winter hammock camping a try. Thank you, Jason
For a gram counter like you, Shug (at least summer Shug is), I'm surprised you didn't throw that pulk on a hanging fish scale and find it's weight. Curious, how much you pulling there in the empty pulk? Very fine video, once again, Shug.
Shüg, you have an excellent accent, as illustrated in your two-syllable pronunciation of gree-up. Awesome. Great video that teaches me all about pulkin' USA.
Awesome video bud, Wow small world I just bought the same sled and pulk system, and It works great up here in the northern Maine woods. But I do love the snowshoes I use the traditional ones but they don't have the grippers like the rei's. Have fun and go amping heading out myself tomorrow I will vid the excursion for hammock forums and ya
Sure beats my old piece of tin roof with twine strung through it that I used to pull firewood out of the AK woods. Also, @ mythic89 I moved from GA to AK with no prompting from a broad, but I met a NM dame there and now we're in Colorful CO. It hit the negatives tonight finally and that was a reason to party. Some people are just born for the cold.
I knew quite a few skegs in high school . I wanted to ask you how you went from North Carolina all the esy to Minnesota by the way, was it for a gal ?
Nice video. I really like your hammock segments. What model camera do you use in such cold weather conditions? Have you thought about posting a video on making your own tarp, hammock, or over/under quilt?
just a thought... a skeg mounted to each outside edge might enable removing them just by slipping a hand down the inside instead of unloading, and on sides of hills if it leaned over one skeg should always be in the snow, that's the theory anyways. Great video as usual, you make the cold look like fun :-)
I like your pulk and that fin is probably working very good in powdery-snow.
Is it easy to disassemble it?
In case you get on a harder track the fin will probably make it more difficult to pull the pulk and therefore it would be great if it was easy to take away.
The MSR snowshoes really shine in the deep bush. When wearing traditional snowshoes I carefully pick my way through the bush, but with my MSR's I charge headlong forwards. Willows and sap,Inge need not be avoided, that front upsweep tramples them underfoot :)
I am keen on simple and clever, and I think you have a winner with your pulk. Thanks for sharing your assembly. Really cool! Hope you find some time to get out with it!
Hey! don't tease us! If you are going to do a skit, do it! I wanna see the full lonesome pulk episode! C'mon. It may bring you a whole different set of subscribers! Happy New Year, Shug.
