@outforsushi Varys may not necessarily be a Targ loyalist. There is a theory that the boy that is being proclaimed as Aegon is actually Illyrio's son, and Illyrio and Varys are working together to put him on the Iron Throne. Daenerys was being used as a pawn by Illyrio and Varys to get a Dothraki army to invade Westeros. From the resuting war Aegon (Illyrio's son) could return and claim the Iron Throne. Also, Varys had warned Jorah in advance to prevent any assassination attempts.

I don't want to believe this theory but despite its flaws it does seem the most likely based on what evidence we have.

However, to all the believers out there, the essay on towerofthehand does not constitute proof. It is heavily biased towards the theory and much of the evidence that is applied to R+L=J could be applied to the other possibilities.

The dothraki have no known magic. The targaryens have their dragon stuff, the Undying don't die, the skinchangers can possess animals and have a history with the , but the dothraki have no magical abilities or lore. Therefore, there is no reason to trust their prophecies.
