  • Did you know Brian Epstein was the manager of this band?

  • What a talent, I love the merseybeats!

  • Johnny Gustafson was in Roxy Music. I also saw him, sometime in the late 60's/early 70's playing lead guitar for Duane Eddy!!

  • Billy Kinsley was originally on bass, Tony and Billy are touring now. Very nice guys !

  • i think of you .

  • Great harmonies from Johnny Gustafson

  • @stuartduffy49 but was the same John Gustafson that played with Roxy?

  • I Love The Merseybeats !!!!! they were so underated ... Precious mems thank you ... Long live the GREAT 60s' .. Lyndloo..xx

  • 2:10 Tongue

  • can somebody tell me their names? thanks!

  • @Lakrits3 Hi. The 12-string guitarist is Tony Crane, the bass is Johnny Gustafson, the lead guitarist is Aaron Williams, and I think the drummer is John Banks.

  • thanks for post

  • I'm only 36 and I love English rock groups from the 60's. Such good fun music, I love it!!

  • @dawntripp1974 in only 11 and i love English rock groups from the 60's. kkkk

  • Nyrainbow2, what order of artists is this concert in?

  • Yeah went to see the Merseybeats last night at the Green Room and they are totally awesome even after a few changes to the band. Probably much better now than they were in the 60's. If you get the chance go and see them as they cover most of the 60's Mersey songs.

  • wow! great sound for such a big arena. I think they are wearing the same shirts that george was offered to plug in that scene in "Hard day's Night" where he said:

"uh wundt be cott dead in theese". Did the Beats ever tour in the USA? Anybody know????

  • Johnny Gustaffson gave me a lock of his hair in the 60's.

  • @hazelcastle

did he become Roxy Music John Gustafson?? Lucky You..

  • Johnny Gustafsson!

  • and what's more...there is reverb on the voice , and at that times this was only studio effect. Then when they sing the noice from the crowds disappear completely.

  • This song was written by a three year old

  • Cool! You really was there?

I'm totally agree about all the things that you say, but what I notice is that the sound of The Merseybeats is totally different form the sound of the other bands.

  • I 'm sorry to tell but is overdubbed....the sound is completely from the other bands....too much

  • @davidaems All the groups performed live at this concert. I was there. There were lots of problems with the microphones. There was so much audience noise that they would not have heard the drummer when his microphone went momentarily dead at the start of the second number. Look up the Kinks from the same concert and see even worse sound problems.

  • @davidaems yeah I noticed that too. The sound recording must have gotten knackered

  • and what's more...there is reverb on the voice , and at that times this was only studio effect. Then when they sing the noice from the crowds disappear completely.

  • Their songs are really dumb. The beatles were better and smarter than these guys.

  • @XanaduZune I don't get it The Beatles didn't mind doing A Taste of Honey or Till' There Was You, I don't see those so far apart from these songs. Comparing them to The Beatles is also so unfair, yes they were a much lesser band but so what they had some great songs, and just when they were branching out (see I Stand Accused) they called it quits. I like the Merserybeats they are so far away from my favourite band but I can appreciate most their songs.

  • utter crap

  • How do I know overdubbed? The drummer starts the song 2 bars early on the last song! Watch!!!

  • I KNOW this is overdubbed, but still great! The drummer rocks

  • Nice song. I wonder why I never heard them in the U.S.

  • Overdubbed.

  • Amazing clip. What a great voice Tony Crane had and the band had a unique sound. Must be that 12 string.

  • I feel sad for myself...not be able to see this :(

  • That was not overdubbed!!!!

  • wow..very nice..makes me feel old as dirt ..haha.i am.

  • I was 18 and saw the whole show at wembly.never saw so many stars under one roof.and no lip synching ,you had to be there.

  • I wish I was! You're so lucky to have been there. You got to see these guys, the Beatles, Hollies, Kinks, and so many other talents in one place at one time. Talk about magic moments.

  • great but overdubbed 100%

  • this is too great...

  • i dig those 'matador' jackets!

  • This show gets funny by the time the Beatles take the stage, mic stand malfunctions, etc...bands used to be able to share gear, jump onto a strange drum kit, plug into an amp without soundchecking it, etc...Try that with the primadonna rockers today and they would fail! Wish The MerseyBeats would have got more fame, they desrved it!!

  • god i remember watching this at my grandpatrents live one sunday afternoon..doesnt time fly.......all the greats were ther that day...........fantastic stuff

  • This must've been amazing.

All these Beat groups gathered 2gether on 1 stage.

Now apparently available on R1 DVD?

  • The memory is an amazing thing - I hadn't heard "Don't turn around" in nearly 45 years - but I was singing right along with it - got all the words right too. Thanks for this

  • Johnny Winter loves Gibson Firebirds

    just like the Merseybeat guy.

  • Maybe if they HAD signed with Epstein The MerseyBeats would have been a household name, but we'll never know. This live footage proves what a quality band they were. Compare the Beatles footage at the same show and make up your mind where they rank. The weakness of this band was songwriting, Lennon/McCartney always had the edge in cranking out there own hit songs.

  • I saw them in York 1977, amazing they played the whole of the 2nd side of Abbey Road

  • Wow, this takes me back! Was this recorded at Fairfield Halls?

I think I may have even been there. Probably without my parents knowing. But it would have been worth it to see Johnny Gus. : )

  • It was recorded at the Empire pool Wembley in April 1964 at the all-star NME Pollwinners concert.

    Apparently available on region1 DVD?

  • I have to read up on the Merseybeats. I like their sound, and I've heard them before. I'm a little surprised they didn't have more of a career here in the U.S. (And usually I don't want to nicpick, but their outfits are atrocious even for 1964 standards {I'm thinking Jerry Seinfeld's puffy shirts} -- I love their haircuts, or lack thereof, though, those hair styles look even more moptop than the Beatles had at the time!)

  • notice that the Arrangement of "I'm gonna sit right-down and cry" is the Same as used by the Beatles on Their (NO! , It wasn't REALLY recorded-"live") B.B.C. Recording.

  • This was recorded live by & in the days of ABC Weekend tv London.

  • I was referring to the Beatles BBC Recording ... sorry for the Confusion.

  • I agree with groovibi Johnny Gus is an amazing bass player and what a bloody voice he has and John Banks on drums(god rest his soul) was totally underated as a drummer what a cracking duop these 2 made.

  • awesome !!! 60s forever !!! thanx so much for this gem..Lyndloo..

  • I saw the Merseybeats last week in the Sheffield City Hall - just a great sound. Together with The Searchers, John Walker and Wayne Fontana in the 'Super Silver 60's Show'.

  • I saw them last night in brum..brill..johhny walker outstanding

  • I have 'I Think of you' as MP3 file. Tell me, if you want it and advise address.

  • Comment removed

  • Johnny Gus one of the great should have beens.

Great bass player, well ahead of his time.

  • Is that Mr Gustafson on the bass? He's got one hell of a voice. I saw the Pirates loads of times in the mid 80s and he put a great show on every time.

  • Still super magic!

  • Looks very 1980's ---early new romantic !!

They were ahead of their time.....

    p.s. some nice drum fills.....

  • good lookin guys!

  • super son rocknroll 60's d'époque

  • my father was the manager of a dance hall in the sixtes in darlo so i saw most of the top bands i would say the merseybeats were the best thanks to youtube we can reminisce !!!!

  • The last one, "I;m Gonna Sit Right Down And Cry Over You" was also recorded by the Beatles on the Live at the Star Club album.

  • This fine song was interpreted by Elvis Presley in 1956 on his first album.

  • a fab liverpool band

the drummer john banks (R.i.p) lived in Tel aviv ,israel untill he past away in 1988..

  • Great to see this. Not too keen on the suits though - look like a bull should be chasing them off the stage! I saw them perform last year. Still sounding great.

  • Precious 60s archives....

  • @kickassfan We have to thank YouTube for giving a medium to see all of the lost 1960's treasures we may have never seen live back then.

Brings back all of those memories. Sir David

  • 40 years later were still listening!!!

    a great band!!!

  • @IanMotha Yep! I don't think much (if any) of the present crap will still be played in 40 years' time.

  • @IanMotha Yup.................. we're still listening to great bands that emerged from the 60's..........Thank the Lord for allowing me to do so!! :-)

  • a real fine band!

  • nice one thanks for this.

  • Good performance, nice songs but ridiculous suits......

  • Thank you- the Merseybeats are great!
