That song is worth getting Intellivison Lives! for alone, but it's still a fun compilation in its own right, though many of the games simply don't work with a DualShock 2 in any logical manner, which is tragic. Short of releasing a PS2 Intellivision controller, such a situation was somewhat inevitable.
Many an hour was spent (my mother would say "wasted") playing with my Intellivision. I played with it until the day it died. (About five years, give or take.)
Wanna know something sad? I bought this game about two months before my granpa died. He was a computer software engineer, so his basement was filled with equipment from the era before he retired. When we cleaned out the basement, I found a whole bunch of gaming dtuff like 7 atari 2600s, 500 2600 games, an intellivision, and 500 (including all the games on the IL disc, and at least 3 copies for each) intellivision games. I spent 20$ on the disc.
I got the doom 3 collectors edition on accident and I found out that it has doom 1 and 2 built into it. So I test the games out in two player and I found out that the in-game screen uses about 1/4 of the space on my TV screen. So the game is mini and has crappy graphics, so after playing that I think I can tackle any game. =P
OMG i forgot intellivision used the same switch box as atari 2600!! I have an atari 2600 band have for like 4 years but i broek the cable switch after three days of playing it (i think my cousins might have actually..) and i havent been able to play my atari 2600 for 4 years. I just baught an intellivision from ebay for 40$ and it comes with 17 games. now i can use that switch box and play my atari 2600..iam really happy now..
Awesome! I grew up on Intellivision. Pinball was one of my favorites. I hate it when that ball goes down the middle (4:00-4:09). A little bump usually helps when the ball hits the round blue target.
*sniff* my first system, oh I remember those good ol' days, I used to have this PacMan like game, and this world war 2 game where you bomb pearl harbor ( I guess was made in japan)
Omg. How i loved my intellivision. Thunder Castle was the first game i owned but nothing on the intellivision beats Tower of Doom. Thank you for sending me right back to my childhood. I'm sitting here with goosebumps. =D
Cool. The intellivision is something that is always forgotten when people talk about retro gaming.
This concole was the first one I ever got as a kid. I kinda was too young but for a 3-4 year old kid it was awesome. A few games I recall are burger time, Dracula, Donkey Kong, and a pac man rip off where you play a burglar.
Unfortunately this collection got never released here in europe.
Great Review ... i love these old Console thingies :) .. hehe it reminds me on my Childhood. You Have to play 8-bit before Understand PS3/Xbox360 :)believe me
haha i remember when my friend and i were in his basement and we found an old intellivision buried under a bunch of stuff so we hooked it up and played it for hours.
I picked this game up yesterday... It's fun and everything, but I find it to get rather boring rather quickly -- which is a shame, because I have fond memories of the Intellivision. :/ Oh well...
The review was slightly misleading... neither Defender nor Burgertime were included on Intellivision Lives! due to copyright issues. A lot of games were left out of that collection for the same reason.
Also, you may want to pick up a spare Intellivision and modify it to output composite video. There are video mod kits and instructions on a site called 8-Bit Domain... Google it for more information.
Intellivision Productions never actively seeked to get those ports onto the collection, fyi.
Keith Robinson, president of Intellivision Productions, purchased the rights to all the games that Mattel programmed during the Intellivision's lifespan. Enter Intellivision Lives!
Atarisoft, among others, made these arcade ports for rival systems. (Since Atari was purchased by Jack Tramiel, these ports will never see a re-release.)
Nice review, I heard about Intelevision before, but I never got the chance to play it. The control number stuff reminds me of the Atari 5200, except that the control was pretty broken for the most part. :(
Nice Video Alpha! Keep up the awesome work! I never had this system as a kid, but watching you hook it up really reminded me of the ol' Atari 2600 back in the day of screwing the prongs into the back of my TV. Man those were the days. Hope to see some more RRRs soon!
Another awesome review! The Intellivision was before my time and I grew up playing on the NES and in the fourth generation era. Setting up the Intellivision is much harder than it seemed.
what a great review, loadsa variety, I never got bored! Love the way you cranked up the older system to compare with, thats what we all love! Then the game shelf, and different games you played and the histoy low down (always appreciated). Great, its like you really thought about how you were gonna do it. your retro reviews will get you thousands of subscribers if you up the review rate ;P
Steep learning curve indeed. I picked up an Intellivision (voice box for B-17 Bomber included) and a bunch of games from a garage sale, back when I was about 12. The only problem was that they didn't come with any of the game overlays for the control. I was certainly a lot more patient back then, that's for sure. :-) Anyway, good job (as always) with the review!
Nice review, i have yet to have played a Intelevison but i want to own one, I do own a Atari 2600 tho. Ive seen the game a few times for cheap at the store, btw do u think Activion Athology will be good to get too?
I remember the Intellivision! I used to play it at my neighbors all the time. Hay, is Battle Tanks included on the IL collection? If so, I'm totally gonna pick it up
At the time when Intellivision came out, Rad probably wasn't a word. Rad was a slang that caught on in the 2nd half of the 80s.

Word Rockets? When I had that game it was called "Electric Learning Company: Word Fun". We also had math fun. Good stuff.

I greatly enjoyed this compilation on my PS2. Such a great collection of games though some do not work that well on the PS2 controllers.
Tower of doom has got to be one of the best games on the intellivision, one of the best home console games of the 80's.

Yes, this was all filmed in my basement.
You're thinking of the Atari 2600. You can use a Genesis controller on it, or any generic 80's-era joystick.
