Thank you so much for this awesome review! Would this be a good first S.K book? I do read a lot and I enjoy long books, but I never read one of his. Also, in your opinion, which book is his best?
Excellent review, on a great book. One of the darkest books I have read, in both concept and presentation. Raises excellent political and ethical issues and forces you to question your own morality.
IMO the best book hands down by Stephen King. No question. The depth to which he goes to explain the characters is simply amazing. And to think..unlike other novels where the story is more fantasy than reality...the plague at least is something that could ACTUALLY happen.
i think that the stand's cover. (with the two grim reapers fighting) is brilliant. I haven't read this yet. I'm starting tonight. (THE UNCUT EDITION!) wish me luck!
I first read The Stand back in 1980, thought it was so scary because its premise of a world wide super flu wiping out most of humanity was so plausible, it was so easy for the reader to picture himself inside the plot. If the book disappoints now, it's because we're used to King's bag of literary tricks. But you must finish the Dark Tower series, where he does revisit the world of The Stand in later volumes.
@wb4ever1 I made this video a while ago, now I have read more of The Dark Tower series, I'm up to book five: Wolves of the Calla now The Dark Tower is a great series.
@canto1408 I read the final volume in the Dark Tower series last winter and in my opinion, the ending is something you'll either accept and believe or reject completely. As always, the Constant Reader is the ultimate judge.
I just finished reading the Stand and I was really disappointed. I thought that the "mother Abigail" concept was silly, and that Frannie Goldsmith was an annoying 'protagonist'.
I also felt like NOTHING happened. They walk, walk some more and stop. Then they get political and walk some more, (explosion) then there's more walking and it ends.
And why did LU and RB and GB have to die if they were 'good guys'?
@canto1408 i posted your review on my friends facebook when she asked me what the stand was about she said she definately needs to read it , good job !
