@pinkfloyd8666 it certainly wasn't mbv's 'first' period. second or third more like, depending on whether you count the goth phase & the twee phase. problem with what you're saying is that shoegazing gets reduced to the album, loveless & the band, slowdive; and the later bands in that vein like lovesliescrushing. whatever you think shoegazing should be, it was far more encompassing than that. certainly more than the ridiculous definition on wikipedia!

@dyaimz I agree, everyone has its particular idea of "shoegaze": for me it's a genre that's built entirely on the sound and not on the melodic vocal lines. Loveless from MBV and Just For a Day from Slowdive are the best examples for me: oniric sound, voices hidden between guitars and effects, heaven sensations. Other bands, imho, created a shoegazing guitar sound (Catherine Wheel, Ride), but they put on it melodic vocal lines that brought their songs out of shoegaze. But that's only my idea.
