Skyrim might have better graphics but this game was still a lot better.

And for it's time, this game had pretty decent graphics. Skyrim? Those graphics are 6 years old made for 6 year old hardware and the UI is beyond shitty because it's designed for an inferior input device (controllers).

@beeefy00sammich It looks ok on a macro scale, but in detail the textures and meshes are beyond unacceptable, You can't have better than 6 year old graphics on 6 year old hardware, which is what the game was made for. Of course, PC will eventually have mods with textures at 4+ times the vanilla resolution and improved meshes/normalmaps for characters and armor as well as a plethora of other visual improvements to make this look like a true 2011 game, but until then I'm just not satisfied.

I played this game, and on my crap PC it was REALLY slow. However, I have to say that from what little I could play, it was a pretty good game. I liked Daggerfall a little bit better, but that's just me. I like that Elder Scrolls is actually a difficult series to play. I hate when games are too easy e.o

Dudes, all in all, Oblivion is the best TES game, and the best RPG in my opinion. Proof: "The May edition of PC Gamer (US) has their annual list of the best PC games of all time, and this year Oblivion comes in at number three. Morrowind hits the list at number 22"-from UESP wiki. Them not even mentioning arena or daggerfall probably means that they aren't even in the running, so as far as PC games go, Oblivion is tops, and its graphics are still epic, especially that it is 5 or more years old.

The issue is that Oblivion dumbed down the RPG elements substantially to appeal to a wider audience. It is much more focused on action then RPG elements. which is what makes it one of the weaker games in the series.

@ArchNordicEmperor Oblivion may be the best in some aspects (blocking is easier, you can dodge, you can tell if you're seen while sneaking, spoken dialogue, etc...), but Morrowind is better as an RPG: it's got deeper background story, greater quantity of items to loot, much more dialogue, bizarre personalities that make Sheogorath look sane, just so many more options that it's almost countless. I've played them both, Oblivion is a great game, but Morrowind is a better RPG.

Old games are fun, yes. That's why HL1 and HL2 cost the same on Steam. But just because a game is new, or has bleeding edge, Crysis-level graphics doesn't make it "shallow" or a "wannabe". Alright? Games are like movies, you shouldn't judge them at all unless you've seen the whole damn thing, or there's something that actually prevents you from doing so, within reason. That includes bad hit detection, or frequent crashes, but NOT controls, especially if it lets you re-bind keys.

IDK how this game was only rated T it is so bloody. Im not complaining this is probably my favorite game, the dungeons were so scary. This game is just amazing and I love everything about it music atmosphere noises monsters. I like, dare I say, more than Doom.

Yeah I was somewhere in Black Marsh in a town at NIGHT when the same "crazy ass whitch lady".There were also some goblins and I barely survived and when I was looking for an Inn,I found.....a prostitute.And boy was she bizarre.Yeah but after talking to her I went into the Inn/Tavern bhind her.

I'd say it's false. The game itself is rather sluggish and old feeling (because it IS old), but the controls themselves are more than enough. It doesn't control like an FPS, but on the other hand it's not like it has to.

Hard to tell what you did and didn't do, so I can't say why the Witch could kill you so quick.That is the beauty and problem of RPG's, all our games are different..... generally, I would suggest getting one of the many FAQs and seeing what character is the best. I know in Daggerfall, for example, the Spellsword is one of the easiest, whereas the Nightblade is one of the hardest. Don;t be afraid to get advice on the forums. Old time roleplayers are generally a nice bunch! :)

The majority of people that think Oblivion is the best outright ES game, haven't played any game before morrowind. The older TES games have some of the greater features which the newer games do not have. More skill, more quests just more. oblivion and morrowind, although GREAT games seem to have turned a lot of people to them just because the graphics are outstanding. Please don't forget the older ones ;)
