WOAH!!! Wait...Angel was a BOY? I am just learning this 30+ years later???? Come to think of it, I DO remember the Movie they did and at one point the producer calls "her" "Angelo" or some longer MALE version of the name "Angel" and I was all confused. Damn..Angel was a BOY???
@Parkette1 Yes you can, funny thing is, I never made the connection until day before yesterday. I was sitting there thinking, I wonder if she is related to Corey, when I came across confirmation of same. I had to laugh. I was in love with Lisa but my brother who is 9 years my junior, was always a big fan of Mindy. I can't wait to tell him about being Corey's sister. He was a fan of Corey's as well and I wonder how much the resemblance had to do with that.
I was 8 years old when this debuted in 1977. I have mixed feelings watching this all over again. You see, my parents split up for good only a couple years before. My mother got custody of us kids. It was after the split that she turned into a mentally ill, abusive, psychotic monster. It was a living hell and I turned to watching television for solace. God, how I wished I could escape from her, become a mousketeer on tv and be as happy & joyful as they were on screen. Lord, I just want to cry.
First I had a crush on Kelly. Then I realized Julie was also a doll. Finally I turned my eyes to Lisa. As it was hard to pick up just one of them, I decided that I would marry the three ones. I was 8 years old. Wonderful times that will never come back.
oh I love this .... when I was a kid I had the LP and on this song, the needle skipped on the words 'surprise day" over and over...used to drive my mom nuts!
yep. kelly was a little cutie. i was 6 myself and i remember being in love with that little girl as a young boy. now that i have seen her almost 33 years later...i can see why i liked her. i bet she is a real knock out as an older woman now.
Oh wow. Does this bring back memories. I was 8 years old when the NMMC debuted in 1977. The problem was that the local station aired it around 2 or 2 thirty in the afternoon on the weekdays and school didnt let out until 3pm. So the only way I could see an episode here and there was if I was sick, on vacation, or cut out of school early. I think the ratings would have been better if they only aired it at a time when we kids could see it. And I had the maddest crush on Kelly!!! (who didnt?)
When I was a kid, we always had this debate at school whether Angel was a boy or a girl...does anybody REALLY know? IT was cute whichever it was...LOL!
I agree I thought Angel was a girl until one of the episodes of a flying ship if you can remeber and all the girls wore skirts and Angel didn't, so I discovered he was a boy now let him R.I.P he died in 1995 aged 32
Angel died of AIDS I read somewhere. So sad, even goody goodies are at risk! I am making a painting about it, comparing Mickey Mouse Club Kids with abercrombie and fitch kids.
I just noticed that Todd is on the floor away from Kelly and then in the next shot he is on the first step for the close. I guess he forgot his spot at the beginning.
My friends and I liked Julie Piekarski most of all. We thought she was the "best overall" and liked how she wore her pretty blonde hair in banana-curl pigtails. Watching these clips now, it's easy to see that Julie was FAR and away the best dancer of the group. Kelly Parsons, who was beautiful beyond her years, was our second favorite. Remember how different & 'glamorous' she looked on the album cover compared to her appearances on the show?
Man, do I feel old LOL--I remember this--My lil' brother use 2 drive us nuts over this show. Everyday after school we always had 2 watch MMC---This is great.
Thanks for posting. I remember when I was 9 sitting and watching this everyday after school. Surprise day on Wednesdays was always my favorite...and I just had to have my Kelly day....yea, Kelly....Even at 9 she made my heart beat a little faster....
Yeah, me too! Kelly STILL makes my heart beat faster! I was only 6 or 7!! She was my ultimate childhood crush! Maby I've always had a weakness for older women!! LOL. I'll bet she still looks great for her age!
Yes, loosely. The 70's club had theme days like the original, but each theme was more vague that the 50s ones, so bits could be used on almost any day. At least that's how I heard it. Their Friday theme, Showtime, was like the 50s Talent Round-up Day, only the 70s talent was filmed live at Disneyland. If you've never watched the 70s version subscribe to this user -- many unique features not in the 50s or 90s versions.
Oh, my God! Oh, my God! OMG! So many great memories. I've just travelled more than 30 years back to the past. Thank you so much for posting this!!! Thanks a billion times!!!
I know exactly how you feel! This took me back to when I was 7-8 years old. I even caught myself (ahem) singing along to this. Can't tell ya the memories this brought back. Thank you SO much for posting!
Lisa & Allison were the ones that made me melt, even as a kid. WOW This brings back SO many memories. DIsney, if you're reading this PLEASE PUT THIS SHOE ON DVD!!
Do you have Discovery Day??

Scott Craig (the chubbier faced boy) died in 2003 at 39 years of age.
Angel Florez was male and died from AIDS in 1995 aged 32.
They were both very talented.

Suprise Day???
Is this suppose to be a bad acid trip?
If so Disney succeeded!
I love the kid's painfully forced smiles, the sickly colored sets and the amazing choreography.
