Hey there! I've got a problem, my cross fade can't be "extended". So my cross fade is REALLY VERY short (1 sec?...) and my video needs the cross fade for impact. See my video's for an exam, so i'll be really appreciative if you guys could help me out a little with my problem. Haha thanks guys (:
This was the only good thing I found to help me with a projects. The problem was driving me nuts. At my school we have a way of saying thank you its (two claps) YOU ROCK!
yeah, this is not the desired effect @1:56. It's dissolving to black. I don't know of any professional editors that dissolve to black unless it's at the end of a piece.
Hey I got a problem with exporting...I've already done a lot but recentley it seems weird. everytime after I get done i go to export, Compressore and after I choose my format it doenst matter ive tried all of them even the quick time which is the easiest way. but as much as i do this the videos get failed...Please help me out
Drop your clip into the sequence timeline. Cut off a little at the end. Drop another clip into the timeline next to it, and cut a little off the beginning. Snap them together. This creates room for the transition. Transition drops in between with no problem. Placing a transition at the end of a clip causes fade out, which may or may not be what you want.
to get cross transition - do what beaugagon suggests...
Final Cut Express needs "extra" footage from the movie clip to create the transition.
Another way to do this is before you insert a movie clip into the sequence, open it up and use the mark in and mark out (i and o keys) so there's a second or so leftover on the side of the movie you want for the transition. Then drag the movie clip into the sequence.
Once you've done this for both clips, the cross disolve transition will work.
Thanks! This is the bit of info that kept me from getting this working. Also, now I know to leave a little room at the beginning and end when actually filming.
your stupid that doesn't fix shit. im having this problem. if you space it out and put the effect there and drag the clip back it just fades out to black then goes right to the next clip. the point is to have the clips dissolve into each other.
@beaugagon - I discovered that you are right but you should not have treated that kid as stupid. It's just not a nice thing to do. The kid put this up to try to help others and you treat him like that. I know it was two years ago but I hope the kid you insulted reads this. You're very rude and your comments are inappropriate. The kid is trying to help others and you kick him in the teeth. Grow up.
Okay, here's the REAL fix. Unlike iMovie, you can't drop a transition, FCE makes life a bit hellish to make it that cut & dry. You have to take a clip, shorten both ends by at least 1 second THEN you will be allowed to drop a transition like Cross-Dissolve into the two video files. Just took me five (5) hours to figure this ridiculous fix out. THAT'S A REAL FIX, not this "Hey I fixed it" when all you did was fade to black and fade in. Hahahaha...! Funny kid though.
WOW... I have been researching and researching and researching for days on end... this is the dumbest thing in the world with the most simple fix! Thank you so much for this. You seriously should make a website with one page that describes this. PEOPLE are searching and complaining about this all over the place, and no one's been able to provide an answer.
dam this works way better. All I did was cut about 2 seconds off from the ends of the clips where I was trying to place the transition and it worked great, even for video that isnt NTSC
@louistorres oh thank you so much!!!! greatly appreciated; I watch that kid and was like really? That is no help at all but you did it!!! Thanks again!
@louistorres hey thanks for writing this i been trying for ages and ages to try and add just a cross disolve and some times it works and somtimes it dont , i feel like smashing the god dam computer, i will try out your method when i get home
@louistorres - I tried this and T-H-A-N-K- Y-O-U SOOOOOO MUCH!!! I really really appreciate you taking the time to share this with the rest of us!!! Man there are good people on earth! Thanks buddy! IT WORKS!!!!!
If you're going to resolve a problem then try resolving it. All you did was fade to black and fade in. Then you make it sound as if you've solved it...!? Are you kidding me right now? Makes me want to call iShowu and tell them that you're clueless. Try again and next time, FIX IT....!
I've got the problem but this tutorial is no solution because it's not producing the effect we want, in your case you ask for a "dissolve" between 2 clips and what you have is a fade to black on the first clip and nothing on the second one and this is not the "dissolve" effect. I have this problem between avchd files and I can't find the solution :(
I was sitting here for hours trying to figure this shit out, thank you, Nephew!

That doesn't fix it. It just makes it look better. When it turns to black it should be turning to the next clip.

You didn't resolve the issue. That's not a dissolve effect, that's a fade to black then fade in. Try again my friend. No subscription from me.
